I have an idea as to why beating the devil in a music battle might be done a lot. In the Bible it says that musical instruments were actually a part of Lucifer's very being, which would make him a being of music, and those instruments stayed with him when he became the devil. By beating the devil in a music battle, we are in a sense beating him at his own game, which in many cases is a huge insult to injury and a blow to a person's pride. Beat the devil at his own game while knocking his pride down at the same time? Why the BLEEP not?

Fun fact: When Charles Daniel's performed live once in front of hundreds of millions of people on GAC tv, he broke his bow string about a minute in. He kept on going with the piece with the broken string until he got a break from his playing and got a replacement on stage without leaving after tossing the broken one away on stage.

Also regarding Number 3 Johnny still made A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL no matter what happens, a deal was made, so due to certain views on the matter, he's going to Hell anyway Besides, even if Johnny wins, he's definitely not humble enough to keep his win a secret, he's gonna be bragging about it constantly, causing more people to try to challenge the Devil to prove they can beat him too The Devil wins any way you do it.

About what you said about Epic Rap Battle of History. Check out Lindsey Stirling. She combines the different styles of music on her violin with dubstep. But dubstep isn't all she does. She turned Phantom of the Opera into a freaking rock song with her violin!!! She also does collabs with a bunch of other performers, like The Piano Guys and Alex Boye - turning mundane modern songs like "Grenade", "Radioactive" and "Good Feeling" into pure awesomeness. She's also a nerd-girl, so we have renditions of Assassins Creed, Skyrim, Pokemon, Halo, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Game of Thrones and even a mash-up of several Zelda melodies. Look her up!

it's always super cool when i suddenly remember an old youtuber i used to watch, or an old youtube video i used to constantly watch over and over again. i never realize how much videos like this one have influenced my own content and how much i remember these videos while watching them, where every line and every moment is ingrained somewhere in my head and it just took me watching it over again to remember them. hope you're doing well, man!!! your content means a lot more to people than you think, and i'm super grateful to have watched you in the past :D

One of my favorite music battles was the duel between Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai at the end of Crossroads. Props to Ralph for looking like he can play well enough to keep up with Steve Vai, and props to Steve Vai for looking like he couldn't play the last part.

I seriously can't believe you made this list and didn't even mention the guitar duel between Bob and Megabyte from Reboot, one of the all time best scenes from that show. And one of the very limited number of good scenes they got away with when under the thumb of the Standards and Practices Board.

I feel like complaining about the short length is really more of a compliment towards music of any sort. Saying that a piece of music is too short meant that you thought the piece was good enough that you wanted to hear more of it. That is much better than saying that a piece of music overstayed its welcome. It would definitely be an unforgivable crime for artistic presentation to be thought of as bland and boring. At the very least, you would be feeling something other than complete lifelessness.

I personally think that this is my favorite Top Ten you've made.

As for #6, I think it's not that epic of a battle because that's the joke. You would think that the battle would epic having the devil himself facing off between two guys who have been blessed by the rock gods, but it's instead two sweaty guys dancing in a parking lot.

I just realized. The Devil had a Xanatos Gambit in _Devil Went Down to Georgia._ He wins, he gets Johnny's soul. He loses, he paints a giant target on Johnny's back for him to get mugged for a giant golden fiddle, so he still wins. There are only two outcomes in the song, and BOTH of them are accounted for. Holy shit.

Really enjoyed this list, love me some music battles. Few years on drumline and you learn to appreciate a drum off let alone any musical competition.

I saw Pitch perfect recently, and by recently, I mean I looked it up right after this video, and I'm surprised I actually enjoyed it. It had great humor, amazing character progression, and the music. Just, wow. Thank you, Josh.

I think the whole idea of beating the devil with music is based around his origin. Its said that before his decent, Lucifer was the leader of the choir in Heaven (here's hoping I got that right). It was said that when he sang, you could hear bass, tenor, alto and soprano at the same time. So beating him with music is sort of just saying you beat him at his own game. Course this is just a suggestion, but I just figured I'd throw my two cents in.

This list is just full of awesome. Tenacious D albums are probably the only rock albums I'd listen to either censored or uncensored. I really need to watch some of those rap battles sometime . I'd be surprised if the Goof-Off wasn't up there but #2 and #1 just made me head bang. Oh and that last point you made I never noticed until you pointed it out.

Fun fact: I actually first heard Devil Went Down to Georgia as an instrumental version in the Shrek 2 video game. In the Jack and Jill's Farm level, there's a section where you play as the Gingerbread Man and go up a hill with giant tomatoes and Devil Went Down to Georgia plays the entire time. It's epic.
