The samurai is a warrior class that is admired in both history and fiction alike. Always being prepared for battle, it’s only natural we see numerous samurai in fighting games, where all the warriors show up for a duel. This video will go over my favorite sword-wielding fighters in the genre, basing their samurai-ness on their backstory, general samurai tropes, and simply how much I like them. And if you’re interested in the cameo: that’s Judgment Meter, my reoccurring cohost. Gameplay captured by Software Agents TV and MrTopTenList. Video edited by MrTopTenList. Fun fact. In Soul Calibur 3s character creation mode you had to pick a "job" for your oc which gave you five fighting styles to choose from for each "job" (three unique and two from the roster) and Yoshimitsu is under the samurai "job". Also I think he gets bonus points in this list for regularly appearing in two fighting games without it being a crossover.

Yay! Hakumen, Baiken and Haohmaru are on the list! Plus haven't you forgot about Kamui Tokinomiya from Arcana Heart, Hibiki Takane from Last Blade and Yuzuriha from Under Night In-Birth as honorable mentions since they're not technically samurai but do fight in a similar way?

Yoshimitsu seems more samurai than ninja. His sword and fighting styles is more like a samurai. Unless he found a way to be both.

A lot of samurai were also ninja. Just look at Hattori Hanzo. He was both.

The real question is..Does he follow the Bushido code. That's the true difference between Ronin and Samurai. But by technically. Ninja use anti Samurai weapons and Tactics. So Yoshimistu would fight fairly as a ninja.

Great video. If I’m not mistaken, Yoshimitsu is a alien being. I remember reading that in his bio from Tekken 3 official gaming magazine.

You may be right. I know the Soulcalibur Yoshimitsu portrays him as human, but I felt like the Tekken Yoshimitsu was supposed to be like a different being.

My personal favorite has always been Mitsurugi. I've heard people call Balrog 'Rog and Dhalsim 'Sim so I don't think it's THAT weird that I've always called him The 'Rug. Pronouncing it, "Roog", lol.

You can even see in his clips you used for Yoshimitsu that he is different, sometimes favoring the right hand (often soul caliber) vs the left hand (often tekken)

Tekken yoshimetsu is the same yoshimetsu from soul caliber he basically is like this octopus look is due to Mishima experimentation from the first Tekken. He broke free from Mishima's control and his mutation literally evolved him through the years. So in essence he is officially immortal after soul caliber.

Setsuka from Soulcalibur should have deserved a mention :P Yoshimitsu II was a child from the Fuuma Clan (The same as Taki) that got adopted in the Manji Clan as a sign of truce between the two clans. In Soul Calibur IV Yoshimitsu I received a mortal injury from Cervantes, so his days were numbered, that is why he appointed this kid as his successor, and once he was ready he had to kill his master and reclaim the Yoshimitsu Sword for himself. The process made him lose his arm too. Also, despite having tamed the sword, a friend of the Fuuma Clan gave to him a second sword, the Fumaken I believe, so he would manage to control better the evil energy coming from the Yoshimitsu :P

I've not gotten into _Samurai Shodown_ properly yet (I'll jump into the 2019 game though), so I'm only familiar with Genjyuro from _NeoGeo Battle Coliseum,_ and this is the first I'm hearing of his legendary phrase, "This fiend will have your butt" XD He's pretty badass in that game, sure. But he just instantly shot up like, dozens of spots right into my Top 10 favorite fighting game characters now! (^-^)

Hopefully Silver Samurai gets a "secondary mutation" which adds on to his actual mutant power of surrounding his sword w/ a tachyon field which makes it virtually unbreakable and enable it to slice through anything but adamantium. The elemental ones he had in the Marvel fighting games would make him even deadlier. And now that Disney/Marvel has the X-movie rights back, they should make an X-men Universe fighting game.

Dont know what you would call it, but we need a top ten "random item throwing" character in fighting games. Each gave has at least one that just throws alot of random stuff out when they fight. Just a thought....
