I have one and love it. It works great. The only caveat: It's been out of production for so long that there's no more parts available. If you buy one and there is a problem and need to get it fixed, you could wind up holding the bag.
The R-2000 is one of the major sleepers of the SW receiver world -- stupendous speaker and sound, beautiful design. Not the level of the 5000, but the 2000 is still a wonderful radio.
You're right. I have an R-2000 and its sound is fantastic, even better when connected to a speaker that is able to translate its rich audio with timber, round bass, low noise floor and hight dynamic range. I also have a Yaesu FRG-7700 that has very similar qualities.
the Kenwood r-2000 A good value. A popular modification was the removal of the tone control in favor of an R.1.T. to decrease the VFO tuning increment from the supplied 50 Hz. This made the R-2000 very suitable for RTTY reception. No keypad entry. Memories store: frequency and mode. The optional VC-10 Internal Converter covers 118-17 4 MHz in all modes with full frequency read-out.
I have an R-2000 and it everything you described. I love its audio quality which is very good with its own speaker and even better with a hi fi speaker box. I also like its Dynamic Range, it beats R75 on these features hands down.
