I've been in videos in the past! And I've been contributing to MTTL since about 2014. Double check those vide descriptions. I will return or contribute in some way. -- A.T. @@Khoobus
Although I don't think it looks weird (in fact, it looks creapier, adding to the affect), I think Gastly should've gotten an honorable mention. Yellow redesigned Gastly to be an orb surrounded by gas. But in the original sprites, Gastly was just gas with a face without the "solid" center.
By just looking at the sprites you get the idea that the artists have been told to fill as much space of the pokemon "portrait square" as possible, with as little "unfilled" pixels as possible. Even if it meant to stretch and distort the body shapes of the pokemons original design
For Koffing: I'd love to assume it's just that the position of the Skull and bones are random, and the official sprites and battle sprites just happen to fit the best. Maybe the position can even move, since its a gas based POKéMON?
I always imagined this Tentacruel sprite to be very evil, his front tentacle looks like hes pointing at his next victum and arms crossed gives me Frieza vibes. And I love mewtwos sprite. His towering posture is menacing.
First part is true, but arguably not the second. Machoke and Machamp themselves still wear a belt, and Mimikyu wears a costume/disguise. Also, Leavanny make leaf clothing for their young.
Bulbasaur can totally walk on two legs. It's either an Ivysaur or Venusaur dex entry that states that as the plant gets larger it loses the ability to stand on its hind legs
I think with koffing they wanted to do a different perspective, like with kingler, and they forgot about how they needed the poison symbol so they stuck it in the open space they now had
I mean, tbh the sprites came first, and I don’t know wether the sprites we got (which japan got in blue) were made before or after the official artwork for all the pokemon was done.
I've been watching since the Yellow sprites video, but binged your entire back catalog when i discovered you, so I get a bit of nostalgia from this revisit
I find it Ivysaur's sprite very ironic because of pokemon red and blue pokedex entry that says "When the bulb on its back grows large, it appears to lose the ability to stand on its hind legs."
Machamp's belt and underwear indeed not clothes but a natural part of their bodies. So they're naked, like all other pokemon. (except, of course, pokemon who are wearing accessory).
Hi, I think I've been in a few others since that one? I recorded a few more recently. No idea when they're coming out, but I imagine in the next few months. I always love being involved with these videos, it's just a matter of finding a way to make it work within my availibility and MTTL's schedule or intent for the video. And we still do tertiary editing and provide game footage sometimes (read the descriptions and credits). If you're looking for me and Sam, Software Agents has now moved to *this* channel due to problems with RU-vid. -- ATG
Another thing about Machoke too is its RBY back sprite, the things on its head went down its back when in other cases it never has making it inaccurate
3:12 That technique is also known as "forced perspective", and it was often used in older movies to create an illusion that the object/character was a lot bigger or smaller than it actually was.😉
I can't believe I missed this one! Darn notification bell..honestly JM is adorable as old lady and baby JM..no matter how many years pass, she'll always be the best! I also always saw the bumps on Geodude's head as just his hair. The reason Machoke looks the way he does is in the name!!! Machop is a portmontau of Macho and chop. Machamp is a portmontau of Macho and Champ..Machoke is doing just what his name would infer! Choking at being Macho! He goes to pose and gives a doofy high school yearbook shot! Also..his arms always made me uncomfortable..like..is he working out so hard the muscles are splitting through the skin? Like, he is litterally ripped? OH MY GOD! THAT IS WHAT IS HAPPENING, HUH?! THAT WHY HE HAS FOUR ARMS AS MACHAMP! His arms litterally split up from all the hard work and reformed into four! My GOD that's horrifying! 😨
16:54 I still can't get over the Jigglypuff design from the Detective Pikachu movie. There, she was given fur, even though she is a "balloon Pokemon", and literally ALL other iterations depict her with a smooth, rubbery skin like she's supposed to be.😣🎈
May be a good disclaimer to the audience that the sprites came before the Sugimori watercolors. We also have reasons to believe that the Blue version sprties were originally the gen 2 sprties, from its earlier iteration. They basically made gen 2 twice
I always thought Koffin was upside down floating and because he's a trickster flipped his symbol right side up 😂 cause I associated him with sillyness as a kid since he's James
I can actually provide some explanation on the Machop lines design it's based on a pro wrestler named Abdullah the butcher who is very popular in Japan he's a Canadian born performer billed as the madman from Sudan and is famous for his martial arts style wrestling and attire and a series of very deep grooves in his forehead
Judgment Meter plays Pokémon. Not as much in recent time just because there are other games that have her interest, but like me, she grew up with the series, so we have a lot of memories. What comments were annoying?
