Keep your distance and avoid intrusive photography. Overall, enjoy Kyoto! Remember to be respectful of the locals and traditions.
Thank you for introducing me to Japan! As you said, new rules have been created for tourists in Kyoto. In response to this, some tourists seem to say, ''Why does Japan make such rules? We can't enjoy sightseeing because of such rules.'' I don't think all tourists have bad manners, but the fact is that there are some who have very bad manners. I was saddened to hear that there are tourists who pull and tear the maiko's clothes... Japanese people hope that foreign tourists will enjoy their trip to Japan. However, we cannot ignore their actions that damage Japanese culture. just make sure if your in geon not to go down any of the side streets now as they just made it no entry for tourists cause of people bothering the gesha
You're right - tourists are no longer allowed to enter private alleyways of Gion or take pictures of geisha! Unfortunate but needed to give the neighbourhood a chance to breathe.
