I can’t believe this is how your entire channel comes crashing down. Really sorry to hear, man! I enjoyed the videos a lot. It was a fantastic run while it lasted.
I saw Falke, but only as a punching bag! That means she's bottom tier. In all seriousness though she's well-balanced, just her V triggers and V skills suck compared to the rest of the cast
I think Rashid is the perfect illustration for these concepts as a whole. He gets oki after everything, he puts you in the corner in 2 seconds, he can scape the corner with maybe 4 to 5 different options. He doesn't always have to spend meter, but if he does he can apply safe pressure, his V-Triggers are very good for 2 bars and his throw game is one of the best in SFV. He also has reliable button and command AAs and useful V-Skill. He's got everything. And I almost forgot, you cannot V-Reversal his Super. Meanwhile, we also have Nash.
A top tier character is a character who can capitalize on any situation, especially when their guess are right, also, their V-Trigger tools are useful on any given situation
@@imnot9923 Ok and? There's always going to be a worse character in any game so what's you point. If Ryu is not worst then then another shot would be. Doesn't matter. I'd rather Ryu be the worst then the best cause his gameplay is extremely simple
I find if funny that people always talk about Ryu being low tier or the worst in the game when we have players like Tjommmi and MDZ_jimmY putting that to rest almost daily.
More VTs need to be like Vega, Karin, Zeku, Ryu, Sakura, Cody, Kolin VT1 etc Something that gives you an added option or pressure or combo extension without being game changing. There are too many VTs in this game that when the opponent activates its ggs. Kolin VT2 , Akuma VT1, G VT1, Urien VT1, Laura VT1 etc these change the tide of the game way too much.
because he's not broken. If he was easy to win with you'd see more players but only Tokido makes him work. Everyone else struggled to win with him major events
@@darkfeeels Yeah this is the most delusional comment I've seen in a long time, You must be one of the Akuma players who downplay him that I'm talking about in this comment.
His kit is too good. If they nerf him enough to take him from the top spot, he instantly goes to the bottom. They'd need to rebuild akuma from the ground up if they wanted to balance him. As it stands, he's in a pretty good place imo. Hard to use, has the best kit in the game, but not so broken that he wins all the tournaments or anything.
I think that instead of nerfing Akuma other characters should get buffed, because if you get rid of Akuma by nerfing him then the only thing that happens is Akuma gets removed from the meta, the game literally doesn’t change outside of that, if Nash or Alex got buffed to be as just outside of top tier then the game completely changes as the entire roster now need to learn to deal with these characters, which leads to shifts in the meta that are greater than just Akuma is no longer on top. Characters that would beat the new ‘high tier characters’ would by extension also go up, like if Gief all of the sudden was best in the game I’m sure Menat would also go up a lot as she can deal with Gief pretty easily, and still hold her own versus other characters too
@@SJNaka101 there is no 1 or 2 things on Akuma that could be nerfed to take him out top 10, he has been the best since his release so is it really gonna pain people to make him even the meet slightly balnced? Also I'm not sure where people are getting this Akuma difficulty thing from, when I tried them they were extremely easy to me.
Truths spoken by HiFight. Biggest advantage top-tiers seem to have are buttons and moves that have little to no risk and/or stupid hit/hurtboxes. Here's hoping the upcoming patch addresses them.
Funny thing is they said they weren't gonna nerf stronger characters but buff weaker ones. That's gone out the window, and now they're nerfing everyone.
Let's be honest If one of the best players picked up ryu/ken they'd be called top tier Fang and Honda will probably go up in japanese lists thanks to daigo
@@anotherinternetperson8495 Daigo has played Ryu for how long now? He plays him for fun on stream and openly states that he’s not good enough for competitive play in his current state, he considered playing Kage in tournament because he thought he had potential and then decided against it, in a recent video I saw he said if Ryu were better he’d consider using him but he finds Guile that fun that maybe he wouldn’t play him in this game even if he were to be improved and put on the same level as Guile.
@@anotherinternetperson8495 I don’t disagree that a good player can make a ‘worse character’ as deemed by the community bump up a couple tiers, but they’re definitely not going from a lower one to top tier, also, the reverse is true too. Sonicfox played Zamasu in season 2 (I think?) of DBFZ and nowadays he’s regarded as bottom 2-3 depending on who you ask, he used to be in A just because fox won tournaments with the character
I feel like I messed up what I meant here but what I’m trying to say is that the perception of a character isn’t always where they actually are, fox played a bad character and people thought he was good until others tried to play the same character, I believe that this same thing would happen if somebody came out and won majors with Ryu
@@anotherinternetperson8495 I think Karin triggers are preety balanced, all things considered. They're just not amazing. But she's got everything else with the exception of great anti-airs. Also, can't forget how great her v-reversal fits in her game, especially when used to keep the corner pressure like Punk usually does. She's in a preety good place now, imo. It would be hard to give her crazy v-trigger without breaking her.
I've always said that either he should get two rose uses or multiple uses of his vt2...it doesn't make sense for others to have something similar and work better than his...it's things like this that make me think characters like him they intentionally make sure they're weak out of fear of them being strong
@@TheFightingGentleman Outside of his VT, I just want more moves. Several ideas I have: qcf+K: pressing d+K during the roll will let Vega cancel into his slide. No input makes him do the regular attack which should be an overhead. In claw mode, he can also press P during the roll to end with his classic stab that has tons of pushback. qcf+P: should get and EX version that recovers much faster (more combos) and also replenishes his claw's health (or replaces claw if he lost it.
@@MansMan42069 while i agree he should have an ex claw switch, i don't think he really needs any more moves...the biggest weakness vega has is that he's the only character with moves that can be lost throughout the match with no ability to regain them...i would prefer that his claw normals, outside of f+heavy, be fully cancelable instead just to claw switch
Great video to make people understand what makes some characters very strong. I do think SFV has decent balance. I'm excited to see what's going to happen this year.
No doubt the game is balanced. A good player can make low tier very viable. But in any fighting game with a varied cast there will always be top and low tier. It's a fact of life and no way to avoid it.
I guess these are things most of us subconsciously know about top tier characters but it's nice having it presented in a way that compares with other characters.
Sugarpunch proposed making Kage an install V-Trigger for Ryu instead of his own character. Were it not for the storyline development of Gouken sealing the Satsui no Hadou, I would probably have preferred that.
I wish there was a part at the end that showed how many of each of these factors the most commonly rated top tiers have. Great informative video though
@HiFight if you tweet this.......you'll have my support on this one my bro!!! Ill definitely speak on this. I'm glad you saying something about it.. GUD SHITTTTTT
This is a really great video! It really brings a higher level of understanding of what's actually going on in a fight and how to map out a great character.
great breakdown. I'd definitely add fast heavy normals to the list along with multiple good/reliable AA options. And while having an invincible reversal doesn't automatically make you top tier, pretty-much every top tier has one (on top of all of their other privileges)
Friendly reminder that Nashs Vs2 is 53 recovery frames while all other charged vskills are 50. ( Blanka might be longer but he can dash cancel it ) . Give me one good reason why it needs to be 3f longer?
@@chachawho435 reactable?😂 bc every pro in SF-League or in ranked reacts to every single one, right? They just never work..🤨 most overheads aren't really reactable and some can even get big conversions.
@@johannzinnitz8893 They close out rounds every now and again but you guys aren't low tier because of it. Cammy and bison don't have overheads and they are fine. You guys do need however good normals and a better presence in the mid range.
@@chachawho435 fair enough. But having such an option would clearly help. Without bar its so difficult to get mixups or openings in the corner. I play Necalli too( Platinum) and i got various people with 3 overheads/ command grabs in a row ^^
really nice topic man!i feel that apply for other fighting games too, specially the ability to turn neutral to combo, it really defines MK11 top tiers for exemple
Good points. Reason #1 is definitely why Seth is so heavily used at high levels (SFL / tournaments), #2 is why Akuma is so OP, #3 is why Rashid is considered high tier, and #5 is why Kolin and Urien are considered top tier (and G is robbery)
Yea, most of the health values don't justify the disparity in options between some characters. Most "low health" characters only have 10% less health than the average character. If health is going to be used as a balancing tool, it needs to be applied more liberally, like in gg's case. Chipp sure as fuck should be extremely squishy compared to potemkin, not just for aesthetic reasons, but because his options and movement give him way more versatility in approaching and pressure.
Definitely agree with this - it seems like the devs don't really understand how damage is dealt in this game. They tweak health up and down by 25 and 50 like it's actually doing something. But the reality is that very rarely does this make a difference between whether or not the other character dies after factoring in no chip kills and CA/VT combos with generous damage. The gap between the highest health and lowest health character is too small. Characters like Akuma and Seth doesn't feel particularly fragile considering this is supposed to be a major point of balance in the game.
You dont have to worry about your lifebar if you have more ways to kick opponent's A S S,who thinks like this don't consider the huge amount of options that akuma and seth have. Sorry,my engrish is bad
Something wrong with that statement? Pretty sure you misread Akuma with Full Bar once or twice, you are pretty much dead, same goes for Seth. Big DMG Fast but also die fast since their health stat is not that much
For the last bit about v triggers, I'm glad someone else thought of my idea for giving vega more rose activations. I think his VT1 and nash's vt1 should have an additional use after activation.
Very respectful and commendable for those last 10seconds of the vid to not cover up your patreons. More RU-vid videos need a couple more seconds to not have those abomination pop-ups on screen. Also great video!
Whats so good about comand Grabs in Sf5? I mean theyre untechable, but is there more to it? Maybe more damage? OK, but something Hidden to the eye? In super turbo, yes, some did Not have a whiff Animation, OK this is huge! But what the Point in Sf5?
An important thing to remember is that the whole discussion of top tier characters is basically just math. If you have better frames, options, etc and they're not to difficult to learn, you can do pretty well with them, it doesn't hurt your odds. This however doesn't mean that someone of great skill can't take a lower tier character and beat the odds, they can, but it does mean that they're probably putting in more work and they're also taking a risk that they know how to handle.
Personally I see the ability to make an intentionally dangerous universal game mechanic safe as a very strong thing to have for a top tier character. Like Seth VS1 making ppl afraid to put out buttons in neutral gives him access to free dashes and walk ups, as well as axe kick giving him access to a somewhat safe way to jump in on his opponents. Akuma having air fireball giving him access to be able to come in by jump very safely, as well as that VT being whatever tf it is. Kolin VT2. Abigail. Ok now I’m getting a bit salty with these but you get my drift 😂
Fun fact. Since SF4 (arguably when sf became mainstream) Evo, including Evo Japan has only twice been won using characters who did not have a projectile attack. So if you want to win At SF, the first step is having a good projectile character.
Majority of players who main the game need to see this. This is the facts that people keep ignoring since it's been out. But imho Champion Edition (only good version) is in a great place and can't ever say the same for the other trash versions of SFV.
Yea this video definitely had to be made ! People do need to understand how much of an advantage they have with playing some of theses characters.Cr mk from a mile away into a combo is just ridiculous.Sagat not having a lot of options after a knock down is depressing, who the f is developing theses characters and how don’t they see this smh ?That balancing team is trash .
The common underlier I've noticed for MOST cases of top tiers is an imbalance of risk/reward. Aka getting relatively too much value out of something that is either too safe or too easy. I feel like characters that crazy skill to get relatively too much reward with tend to not be problems - because not enough people play that character.
What tool from V-trigger are you showing when you show akuma ? ... It'd had made 100,000 times more sense to show someone like Juri-Han zipping across the screen... or Dhalism setting the ground on fire... Or if it HAD to be a top tier V-trigger. Cammy going through with Drill kicks.
This video I think really puts some of the issues into a great visual example. Definitely things I dislike with the top tier disparity! SFV is the only fighter I've played where I have to play top tiers just to enjoy the game, and that's messed up. I started the game maining Fang and Gill, and NOT having some of the top tier options actually hampered my learning. One thing that IMO is a definitive top tier privilege not mentioned; The "go-to" pressure button. Almost every character has a st.MP which is +2/+3 on block, and confirmable on hit into a combo point blank. The attributes of this button really define the risk/reward in some matchups, and the disparity of what each character gets for this button is so odd. As an example, Gill's st.MP is a fantastic button on paper, but if he confirms into cr.MP > lariat he doesn't get good OKI. If you st.MP on OKI and they jump you can be put into a minus situation even on hit, so it doesn't very well fulfill it's role. Compared to Rashid st.MP, Akuma cr.MP, or Seth cr.MP. All of these lead back into the same situation, block or hit!
@@ZeludeRose bruh im 99% sure his videos are cause of him being in Panda. All the youtubers in Panda lately have been grinding on YT and I think it might be a requirement or something for their sponsorship. Because the same thing happened to Hgguapo cause once he got into Panda he started putting out a lot more content.
Excellent video man. This is what I hate most of this game lately. It has become (Or Maybe evolved?)a game where characters are constantly fishing/buffering with their best normals to get oki and proceed to put into a guess situation their opponent. You Guess wrong. Now you are close to stun, ggs. Very well explained.
A lot of these things are things every character should have in some capacity, a greater capacity than this game seems to allows for certain characters.
The real problem are the people in charge of the balance, it has been 5 years? of "hey this one looks crazy let's make it crazier" and all the rest of the cast keeps inexistent. IIRC KoF 14 became more balanced at the later stage and that was 1 guy balancing. SFV it is boing to me for the same reason that DBFZ is boring to me to watch, in dbfz the woman in charge has little to none sense of what to do to balance the roster and they keep bringing more and more specific strong characters that make boring that game to watch or play, and on top of that they keep neglecting the rest of the roster like if krilling was a nuclear level of insanity if they gave him 1 good thing, oh but UI goku is fine. I know that meta is supposed to be like this , but it doesn't have to be like this. Games need hype and people engaged by it, UMVC3 never received any more patches, at least officially. But that game has some room for crazy shit out of the 3 top SS tiers. Some may remember how tekken did not allowed the old man dlc to remain top tier after evo japan, but somehow akuma has a pass. TLDR the problem are the developers, if we want them to either buff properly or rework the mid / bottom tier then people should organize and let them know what majority wants. If there is always this dysfunctional communication between players and devs then it is impossible to help a game to stay alive making content and trying to hype it to big levels (big in terms of FGC numbers).
Have you read season 5 patch notes? They only nerfed top tiers and buffed low tiers. I’m not even sure what do you mean by thing getting crazier (in DBFZ I guess?) It might not be perfectly balanced but it’s not like they didn’t know what they are doing.
@@HiFightTH yeah in dbfz every DLC seems to be even more off the hook of any testing before launch to see if it is way too crazy. I'm reading about the new season and i see how they are improving some not top tier, but you think it is going to be enough? i really have my doubts, talking just about dbfz there is this factor of being able to get into a super high damage combo being top tier that bottom tier seems to have difficulty to even confirm the second hit. I hope you're right, let's hope they know that 5 years of pretending all is good, in terms of balancing, is not healthy for the game, the community and content creators.
