Back on your shit to appreciate you bro! Not sure how serious I will get about this, but I appreciate this. I may still walk on some day. Maybe this year but my athleticism has lots left to be desired. Love your channel.
@@babemagnet6992 they didn’t let people try out because they had the paperwork and physicals due within 2 days of announcing the tryouts. So pointless lol
Love the video I plan to walk on my sophomore year in college for receiver I’m glad I watched your video because I’ve been working out but now I’m finna start working on the drills you mentioned thank you.
@@clayraterman question for ged students to tryout for college football team do I need to be enrolled in a school or do I need to contact ncsa to go to junior college to be able to play college football and get scholarship
@@clayraterman rolled my ankle couldn't finished the rest of the drill kinda fucked my confidence but the coach told me come back in August so I guess that's a good thing
I'm from Haiti and I love football but I never get a chance to play in my high school because the people that were around brain watch me... didn't have no choice and tryouts for the baseball team I make the team because of coronavirus I didn't get a chance to play my first game , but I want to show them anything is possible as long as you work hard for it and don't care what anybody says! and I'm preparing to go to the tryouts! and I will make it to the NFL!!!!!
Hey man! I’m looking into being a walk on for my future school (TTU). I’m currently a senior in highschool. I’ve never played football before, I’m a former soccer player. I’ve been told i could be a college kicker, i can consistently kick 40-45 yard field goals, punt with 4.5 - 5 second hangtime. I plan on attending camps to improve my skills over the summer. Any tips?
Practice all the time and go get around actual kickers and punters to learn the game. Good to have talent, but best when it's actually applied in a football atmosphere. Do camps and get around people who can coach you related to football!
Check my channel I have vid on it! And usually they’re first week of each semester at most schools but you can contact titles like director of player personnel or walk on coordinator or someone on the team or in athletics department to ask if they don’t publicly post it
not sure I wasn't running around counting lol but a lot were there (depends on the school size, maybe 70-100 at osu) and I'd say a few make it depending on if they even have roster spots open and what they're looking for. Not really something important to focus on
Do you think teams will give you a chance or look at you seriously if you didn't play at all during your only year of playing in HS? (Yeah ik I didn't play and ashamed of posting this) oh, and I'm talking about JUCO
They probably won't even know unless they directly ask you that question. The only thing they asked me was if I played in high school and under what coach (and it was just conversational, they weren't like questioning me). The walk-on tryout like I always talk about is going to be heavily decided on by your performance at the tryout and your times in the drills they test you on. That's why it's so cool because if you can work your ass off and get amazing times on these drills like the 40 and the shuttle, you usually have a good shot. Hope that helps my man - don't be ashamed of trying ever, keep going!
@@clayraterman yeah bro it helped, I'm gonna work mainly on speed since that is what everyone is always looking for, it's a shame tho because speed doesn't determine how you perform on the field but it is good factor to have
So when u got to the tryout did they divide y’all into positions, or did everyone stay together and then they put the people they liked into positions of the coaches choosing?
You say the position you are "trying out for" and then they divide it in to groups and have you go through the drills with your groups (usually skill, big skill, OL/DL, specialists). Then if you make it to the end they will sometimes have you do position-specific drills or just put you at a totally different position entirely on the team in some cases
As far as tryouts go, considering that you mentioned a possibility of the star drill being ran, which version do you think will be more popular or likely? I’ve seen drills run that incorporate 5 cones including the center, whereas some include up to 9.
Your 40 is the only thing they really measure and so that's the most important stat. You can get better at the 40 by running it a LOT. Practice your starts specifically. Its hard for people to gain "top end" speed....but you can easily shave a couple tenths off your 40 by simply perfecting your start. Many people don't do that so I'd start there.
They will get all the same normal testing drills, beyond that, for position drills, just look up running back position drills in college (at your school or wherever). Probably footwork stuff, hitting some holes, taking some handoffs, I'm not sure.
First week of fall and spring semester (typically aug/sept or January) - I've heard of some other ones that have happened at diff times or before summer as well
Hey man, couple questions. Background is I’m a 23 year old junior at an average-below average mountain west d1 school. I haven’t played any organized football in my life but I played basketball in high school. (Took a few gap years before starting college) I’ve recently gotten really into football and have been considering starting to train to walk on my senior year. So 2 questions: a) do you think it’s worth it to train and all that to try and walk on for just one year? Would they even be interested in an inexperienced player with just one year left of eligibility even if I train up so that I perform well at the tryout? Alternatively, is there any kind of eligibility workaround that might let me play longer since I didn’t play fresh-jun? And b) I’m 6’1 210-15 what position should I train then tryout for? Wideout would be my preference but I know most wideouts at the college level are a little leaner than that (although I am a little older so there’s that). Probably too small for tight end? Thanks for the advice and videos man they’re excellent
Awesome video, but I've been having trouble finding what a good shuttle time is. I was timed at 4.2 seconds in the 5-10-5 at my tryout, how good is this time?
Like I've talked about before typically at a larger school you're never going to get a response from an actual coach. There's other people like directors of player personnel, walk on coordinators, other staff members, etc. that you can email and ask at any point in time. Tryouts from what I have seen are almost always held the very first week of the fall and spring semester so that's usually late aug/early sept. and mid to late January!
I don’t have any prior experience playing football in high school but i want to try out to be a kicker because i played soccer a-lot throughout the years so do you have a different tryout for that position and is it more difficult for me to even tryout since i have no prior experience? Also can i tryout again in my sophomore year if i don’t do well on the tryouts in my freshmen year? Would appreciate it if you could answer these! Thank-you
Yes it would be harder of course having never played football. I've seen some soccer players do it before though too. And yeah you can tryout again as long as they have open tryouts
Depends on the school you should ask them! I would imagine there's probably not enough time to do both as football is generally a year round commitment
clay raterman nah I mean if you get a full ride track scholarship after a year could you stop doing track without losing the scholarship and play football instead
yes there were, but I remember them making kickers just do all the same drills initially and then I'm not sure if they went and kicked separately with the special teams coaches or what
i haven’t played since 5-6th grade and i can’t play in highschool because i’ve chosen to stay with XC and i want to play in college and hopefully make it to the NFL (i know it’s a long shot though)
If your goal is to play in college and NFL you need to be playing football as much as possible, why would you do XC over that? that decision makes no sense
I understand I'm super late to this video but like say I wanted to tryout as a return specialist for punt and kickoff is that a option or would I have to be a receiver?
If I played juco Golf out of highschool & dropped out my third semester,, would that have any harm on my NCAA eligibility for football? Granted I’ll have to take juco classes to improve my Gpa to get into a NCAA school let alone have the walk on standard. Any reason I don’t walk onto a juco football team while I am improving my gpa for a future university alongside getting ready to walk on to a d1 team?
if I walk on to a juco D1 school and I work really hard and I do somewhat have football experience but couldn’t really play I grew up in somewhere that had no recurring in D1 or D2 so I really never had a chance how much of a chance do I got and what do I do....how do I get noticed on a D1 juco football school with really no tape and real playing time.
Does everyone have to do all the try out stuff? How does this work for instance I’m trying out as punter so would there be a different try out thing for me?
Well if you're a "walk on" that means you're on the team and you've made it. If you don't make the tryout or get recruitted you're not a walk on....and if you make the team and eventually they kick you off for whatever reason or cut you, then you're back to being not a walk on. So not sure what you're asking exactly. But yeah if you don't make it you can try again or go somewhere else
I'm not joking when I say this: my whole life was preparation. I played football my whole life and worked out like a maniac 5-6 days a week from 8th grade on (still do) Consistent actions over long long time. specifically for the tryout drills I spent about 3-4 months doing the drills before go time (the summer leading up)
clay raterman I think I got it. We got 6 guys going to the draft, 12 seniors graduating, our head coach just left for Washington state and not many people are signing for my school. The recruiter coaches know me since August and have been watching me ever since. I have weight lifting with all the strength and conditioning coaches so they see my position in the weight room. Both conditioning coaches say I can make it, we just gotta see how it goes in February🤷🏽♂️
@@Flapjack624 That's great! got a lot of things going in your favor, but that doesn't mean stop working and trying to increase your skills, strength, grades, etc...Try to control what you can and focus on how YOU can get better everyday, not the situation that's going on at the school or resting on the fact you think you got it. Stay focused and go make it happen!
@@clayraterman Ok also I had a 4.5 GPA coming out of highschool but my first semester I struggled like really bad and my grades weren’t so good and I’m suppose to have a tryout sometime during February but I’m worried bc I had one bad semester my whole academic career
I hope i can walk on a college football team at another school other than my college. I have been in my third year of college since last semester and my college doesn’t have a football program. I hope i can make it to the nfl after i hopefully walk on a college football team🙏🏽🙏🏽. I am also trying to finish signing up my ncaa eligibility form online.
The Kev Sheaux you better hurry up and get on it! Your eligibility clock is running out fast. And focus on one goal at a time my man! I know the NFL sounds awesome but you gotta get to college first
Also forgot to say this, but I have only played football for my senior year in high, but didn’t play as much because of my fears. I hope to also get out of my fears of playing football as well.
Bro can I still be a walk on ? Texas tech sent me a undergaradute admission letter today . Can I be a walk on as a undergraduate student? ..I asked u this question in your dms on Instagram also
Answered you on the DM's! But yes you can be a walk on as an undergrad .... that's typically the only way to start! As long as you've not enrolled in 12 or more credit hours before and used your eligibility up then you should be fine. Check my eligibility video out.
