DxO PhotoLab has many features you can use to control and adjust the colours in your photos. But before you use any of the adjustments, you need to be sure you are building on a sound foundation. That’s why understanding a few fundamental features in PhotoLab will help you control and achieve better colours in your photography.
In this video I explain how to use the Color Working Space, Colour Rendering and Soft Proof features. Not only do I explain the features but also how photographers should combine them for both colour editing and printing.

This is a really good and very informative video that really helps me a lot. If you don't understand what's going on, these settings remain an eternal blind flight. Thank you!

Glad it helped. The settings aren't the easiest to understand but they do make a difference.

Thanks for this explantation. I often process a file I have done in Lightroom to Photolab because of the colours but have been having a major problem with printing. I did not know about the highlight feature in the soft proofing and it means I might have to change the paper I have been using for some photos. After checking using your method the photos look quite different and flatter but with different paper profiles it is a lot better.

Glad it was helpful. I have it on my list to do a proper Soft Proofing video with PhotoLab. Hopefully that will explain everything clearly.

Really good video. I confess the wide gammut thing in PL6 is something I've been meaning to investigate but being lazy I've just stuck with legacy settings and I've never turned the colour rendering control on at all. Now I know what they do I'll have a closer look. Also the rendering and softproof warnings were unknown features. I've seen the icons but had no idea what they were for. Your 8 minute video has probably saved me an hours worth of searching! Although, softproofing is less of interest because I normally finish up in Affinity Photo and use its softproofing and print settings.

I'm glad you liked the video and found something of interest in it. At first, the options will probably make your head hurt (they did me) but it's worth making the effort to understand what's going on. Good luck.

I'll need to watch this many times to get my head around it. At the moment, it's up there with alchemy on the mystery scale - but thank you

It's worth making the effort. I'm sure it will all just click into place for you with a bit of experimenting.

Looks like a really good upgrade. Very helpful video. I really need to get up to speed with all the controls and functions in PL. This improvement in ease-of-use will help. BTW, I heard you mention the GX1. Is that the original Lumix body that ultimately became the GX9? Combining new software and obsolete cameras could be an interesting video subject!
@RobinWhalley
@RobinWhalley 9 месяцев назад
I don't know about the heritage of the GX9. What I can say is that the GX1 was the successor to the GF1 which was an early micro 43 camera. I take your point about using new software with old cameras but I don't know how I could show it properly or turn it into a video.

Where is the Channel Mixer coming from - and it doesn't look like a channel mixer, more like a color painter?
@RobinWhalley
@RobinWhalley 11 месяцев назад
I'm sorry, I don't know what you are referring to. I can't recall using a Channel Mixer in this or mentioning it. Do you have a time reference or in the vidio something you can point me to?
@Eigil_Skovgaard
@Eigil_Skovgaard 11 месяцев назад
Sorry, at 4:35 - 'Channel Mixer'. It's not visible in my Elite! version for which I paid Elite price ;O)
@RobinWhalley
@RobinWhalley 11 месяцев назад
@@Eigil_Skovgaard I think that you are referring to the HSL tool which looks like a colour wheel with some colour sliders below it. If that's correct, it was released in PhotoLab version 3.
@Eigil_Skovgaard
@Eigil_Skovgaard 11 месяцев назад
Those color sliders below the HSL wheel is a separate tool with its own on/off button (off), and it is obviously called 'CHANNEL MIXER', therefore my question to you is - Why do you think this Channel Mixer tool is missing in my new ELITE version 6.8.0 of DxO PhotoLab? Right below the HSL wheel in my version comes another tool, Soft Proofing.
@RobinWhalley
@RobinWhalley 11 месяцев назад
@@Eigil_Skovgaard Thank you. I understand what you are looking at now. I think this is one of the tools that was addd in FilmPack 5. It's like a lot of the FilmPack and ViewPoint tools. They appear in PhotoLab when installed because of the integration. It's hard for me to be certain because I deal with so many applications. You migfht be better asking on the DxO Forum.

Thanks, but as other mentioned you have to see it several times. There is A LOT to take in and combine. It would be fantastic if you made a new video - step by step - and more slow.
