I rescued a 8 month old heeler and I'm trying to train her, loved your video #1 in there 3 free. It let me watch the first one. And then I couldn't find the other 2 anywhere.

My dog, Kyah barks at almost every thing she hears. Whenever we have guests and even when she hears different noises out on the street she goes off. It is driving me crazy. This issue is really the only one we have with her, she is so very obedient in everything else. She hasn't even left our unfenced backyard from the day we brought her home! I have tried various methods to stop her (including I hate to admit - a shock collar) and nothing has worked. It is like she is completely oblivious to me when she is set on barking. I am almost at the point where I am ready to give her up and she was a rescue to begin with. I would add a video of her constant barking at our housekeeper if I knew how to do that.

My dog jumps up for me, for my husband, and for anyone and anything. I watched the other recommended video but it's geared at jumping on visitors which is a bit different. I'm not sure how to approach this issue, especially because my puppy is still learning how to take good nicely from hands without nipping fingers in the process.

We have a free resource for that! absolutedog.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/2022_Resources/Jump_No_More_Playbook.pdf and an entire mini course! absolute-dogs.com/product/stop-jumping-mini-course/ . Here's my dilemma - my dog generally does not jump upon my arrival, but rather during play. Particularly outside, her truly happy behavior is to be able to jump up and engage. (And she certainly always jumps with willing dogs.) I haven't fully trained her, but she seems to be an ideal agility candidate - very athletic and loves to be busy and learn things. So aside from jumping over things, is there a place for jumping in play?
@absoluteDogsofficial
@absoluteDogsofficial Год назад
Hey Sherry! It's all about what is compatible with you! There's no "bad" dog behavior, its just dog behavior, and what feels comfortable and appropriate for you. There are super ways to grow value in keeping 4 paws on the floor even during play, or if you want to keep that behavior because she enjoys it and you do too then that's wonderful! Have you two started any agility training yet? She sounds like a super athlete!

Love the beds do you have these is most of the rooms in your house? So your dogs have boundaries in most rooms.
@absoluteDogsofficial
@absoluteDogsofficial Год назад
Hey Margaret! Great question! Yes we sure do! Our dogs have so much value in their boundaries it would be rude not to have them in every room😅 It's also a super help to the consistency for them, always giving them a safe space to reside that is theirs where they can relax and disengage from their surroundings. A win win win for everyone!🙌💕

What's the best way to show a dog that they don't have to greet everybody? Apart from having 2 people and putting "go say hi" on cue.
@absoluteDogsofficial
@absoluteDogsofficial Год назад
Hey Jessica, great question! Growing the skill of Disengagement is the secret sauce to teaching a dog they don't need to say hi to everyone. Disengagement is the ability to see value in mentally and physically turning away from something whether its exciting or scary. Its a super gamechanger! A great place to start is Boundary Games! While this is about growing your dog's desire to be on a bed at home, it quickly translates to the outside world as well. Anything can be a boundary! A stair, bench, rock, stump, fallen tree, patch of grass or patch of dirt, or Middle! Quick summary: Tip 1: don't let your dogs near people, then they wont jump on them. Brilliant! That's a complete admission of failure right there when they same they don't let their dogs near the front door. An actually well trained dog can come to the front door and not jump. Tip 2: watch another video. TIp 3: management - don't let them near people! Same as tip 1. Tip 4: boundary games - teach them to stay somewhere away from people! So same as 1 and 2, but without a physical restraint/management. Wouldn't they be much happier to be roaming freely, and trained NOT to jump?!
@absoluteDogsofficial
@absoluteDogsofficial Год назад
Hey Tully, the thing about dog training, is great management strategies to prevent the unwanted rehearsal IS training because they're actively learning to do something else when the opportunity to jump up is available. It's all about choice tunnels. By lighting up the option to stay on their bed and making that a rewarding experience, we are also dimming the light on the jumping-up choice tunnel. The brighter the not-jumping-up tunnel get, the dimmer the jumping-up tunnel becomes. This is an excellent starting point, because as creatures of efficiency, dogs will do more of what they do everyday - and with every repetition they get better at it, so making the not jumping up option a better deal, they are more likely to choose it and rehearse it in the future. Growing neural pathways for the win!🙌
