What’s one of your goals while in the military?

I do want to go to school (get my Master's in something related to counseling), I plan on doing a 4-year contract (because I can always extend it, if I'm not mistaken). I also want to get my finances in order and get a few medical things taken care of for my husband. I also want to travel for free (even if it's on cargo planes lol), and if I like it and want to stay, definitely commission. I'm leaving it all to God, but I do want to go on Public Affairs or Mental Health (I have like 6 other choices that I would be happy doing, but those are definitely my top 2). Anything else I should plan for?

I am glad I signed up for the National Guard first when I was considering joining the military. I was activated and called to active duty for a deployment to Iraq so I got all my veterans benefits. I didn’t like the military and only had to serve part time other than my year long deployment and initial entry training. Joining the reserves/guard first is a good option to see if you like the military. You can always switch to active duty if you like it.

My plan right now is to sign for 6 since ill probably be in tech school for about 18+ months ( Just booked a linguist job!) When I first sat down with my recruiter last year, I was only interested in going in as a paralegal but I missed all the deadlines so that didn't work out lol. As a paralegal, I was going to take advantage of the scholarship opportunities for paralegals and get my law degree. And then go for my commission and become a JAG officer. Still debating on whether or not ill do the school thing now. But I'm still going to go for my commission since I already have my bachelor's. This video definitely gave me some things to think about though. Thanks!

Cross training doesn’t mean you automatically have to reenlist. My spouse cross trained and just had to extend to make sure she had enough retainability for her PCS related to the cross training.

If you don't like your job, I think you can cross train for an additional 2 years (6 total)

@@daryllights there’s plenty of ppl in late 30s who were at BMT w me! Like I told the other person if it will benefit your life in the long run it’s totally worth it
