I have sewn a dozen or so silk tops. The trick is to starch the fabric as part of the preshrinking process. I found old-fashioned powder laundry starch, in a local supermarket, but spray starch will work as well. The starch rinses out in warm water when the garment is finished.
So helpful! Especially using a rougher fabric like denim beneath to cut the fabric and the tissue paper trick. Definitely helped give me confidence to make something from a beautiful piece of silk I have.
Gorgeous top Lauren. 🥰🥰. Love the tip about leaving long threads on the silk to help pull the silk through easier on the sewing machine. Give it some tension ! Love your tips to help to sew with Silk. ❤️❤️
I love sewing with silk (satin and crepe de chine are my pick) and always use a rotary cutter for cutting. I don’t have time for handwashing so just like you describe it goes in the wash in a delicate cycle with delicate detergent. I’ve even put in in the dryer on the delicate dry setting with no ill effects!
