Over the years I've seen many people suggest bottom watering or not to water the crowns of cacti and always found that quite peculiar since in nature water always comes from above and just floods everything. I water all my seedlings and cacti from the top and haven't had any issues in the past when I had a large collection or now starting up again from seed.
I watered my larger lopho seedling 5-6 times today from the top so that I could get a usable timelapse of the drying of the crown. Today was especially hot with a UV INDEX of 12 and top dressing reaching temps of nearly 60C or 140F.
Only 1 reason I can think of not top watering and its if you want that VERY FLUFFY lopho that looks like fur. Very manicured lophos do have that and if that is your goal then do that. I prefer a more natural flat look... I don't go as hardgrown as some growers only watering once a year but I do let the cactus show signs that it wants water like the ribs being very well defined. the longer without water the deeper the ribs will be reaching until the root.
If you have any suggestions on next video or questions please ask. This is a hobbyist sharing his experience over 8 years growing cacti and after a 4 year break returning to the hobby.
