I feel like this kind of torture should be reserved for rapists and murderers and abusers who feel no remorse for hurting their victims (or cry crocodile tears, only upset because they got caught). I really feel like if we used things like this in modern day, there would be a lot less people committing these types of inhumane crimes. But that's just my opinion. Y'all can disagree, it's really not that big of a deal. Not the dead horse one though, that's animal abuse.

I heard that some executioners got to keep the clothes of the ones subjected to torture once they died. This could be one of the reasons why a non-sadist may become an executioner, that and the salary. (I googled it and it was 5 shillings per execution. I looked in to what it could buy you and as a commoner 5 shillings PER execution assuming you execute quite a few a day was nothing to sneeze at.)
