I like that Topa gets to see a female person as a positive role model here, since she has been taught that a female existence is wrong and would be unfulfilling. I imagine inside right now it makes her feel more comfortable and confident to eventually address the feelings inside (her innate gender, which also happens to be her birth sex).
@@robertchapman7451to be fair it was explained that an alien pheromone was involved and she felt so guilty about it that she pushed for Ed to get the commander post of the Orville.
You'd think the pants thing is just for comedic premise but as someone who's worked in HR, I've had to tell someone to wear more than underwear at work before... all sorts of people out there 😅
For sure! As a woman, I had to tell an agency girl to wear longer skirts as a micro skirt was not acceptable. She refused and it was added to the list of infractions that got her on the banned list
I think another good compromise for that guy would be to have him wear one of those holo protectors to make it seem like he’s wearing clothes since it isn’t real.
Kelly " ensign go put on your uniform " Belkarian " I'm sorry sir but in my religion I must honour my religion of being naked on the first of our month " Kelly " it's the 15th ENSIGN " Belkarian " Ah dammit you noticed "
@@jimmymcpherson2679 You're right, you'd have to insist he remained in his quarters for the day or it's back to trousers. There's a limit to what should tolerated, if he sees it as discrimination then so be it.
Space....The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Orville. Its continuing mission: To continue the sci-fi adventures inspired by Gene Roddenberry's visions. To seek first contacts with strange new aliens and civilizations. To boldly go where no 'Nu Trek' has gone before!
Thanks for pinning my comments. IMHO "The Orville" is the sixth 'Star Trek' series currently on screen, yet it better reflects Gene's vision and spirit than the other ongoing series 😉
Hey just letting you know, I've unpinned your comment. Which doesn't necessarily mean i don't agree with you. I did but no longer, as I've now come to enjoy the recent Trek shows. Happy travels.
I’m surprised they haven’t done some low or high tech way of, essentially, “mobile privacy curtains”. Either use some kind of illusion tech to distort view or make it look like he’s wearing the uniform while not actually wearing anything. Or get around it on technicalities. Like branding a full body veil as something else or have him cover up with a tarp. Not clothes. Just carrying equipment around everywhere.
I always thought the Orville was a complete comedy and mockery of Star Trek. After watching some clips the show seems more like a Star Trek that doesn't take itself too seriously.
2:45 I've never been able to fully grasp how truly mentally damaging misgendering a person can be until I rewatched this clip after watching the whole show. I genuinely felt my heart drop.
You don't know that. Especially since she said she had been struggling for a long time. Obviously, i know what you mean, that she hadnt publicly transitioned yet, and therefore couldnt be intentionally misgendered as a boy, but in her head, hearing someone say he/him in regards to her probably sucked pretty bad regardless of if it fits the technical definition of misgendering
@@blakes8901 she didn't know what it was until she was told she was bio female. So at this point it may have not affected her, but at the end I'm just guessing
Well, Topa does want Kelly's job eventually, or she is at least considering it. But Kelly will probably be a captain or admiral by the time Topa is ready to become a commander.
1:57 - 2:14 At least Ro Laren (RIP) only requested that she's allowed to wear her ritual earring as a mark of respect for her religion. Hence Picard and Riker never had to deal with a crew member who requested, let's just say a more awkward 'religious accomodation' 😉
When Deanna Troi became engaged as a result of an arranged marriage and they were escorting their respective families! They discussed Wedding ceremonies including Betazoid customes of all guests being unclothed! When K'mpec (not sure about spelling) died, Picard had to perform the ceremony where they put pain stick's into his body to confirm if he was indeed dead.
@@seriascannain6675 Forgot about the Betazoid wedding cermony. Deanna naked would've been interesting to fans (she wore a tight dress showing her cleavage for much of TNG). But I would've loved to see Lwaxanna Troi stripping all the way 😉
At some point someone must have called out that regulation and got it repealed since in Lower Decks there was an officer wearing a hijab. I remember even as a kid thinking it was B.S. since Worf got to wear that bandoleer thing.
@@MuffinHunterX I have never saw the episode of lower decks you are referring to however Captain's seem to have some flexibility with how regulations or directives are implemented. It may be the case that higher ranking officers have more freedom to accessorize their uniforms like in the Military higher ranking officers have more freedom than new recruits!
@@seriascannain6675 It's a blink and you miss it moment as she's just a background character in the mess hall but come to think of it I'm pretty sure Shax is always wearing his earring.
0:50, I was not expecting full on hairy ass booty cheeks when the scene cut to what the problem was they were having 🤣💀 homie in his birthday suit at work 💀🔥💯🤣
Spok trying to convince someone clothing is necessary is despite their cultural beliefs (even though he is completely fine with it and uncomfortable having to tell them to go against said cultural beliefs as they are harmless) is something I now need
Why not just go forward and not have him on duty on the first day of the month? He doesn't have to be dressed and everyone else doesn't have to see him not dressed
Sign says No Shoes👢👡👠 No Shirt 👕 No Service I pointed out that the Sign didn't Mention Pants The Next Time I went The Sign Included PANTS👖 TOO 😵😳😉😊😆😅😂🤣
This episode tried to ape the TNG episode "The Outcast" where the race has no gender and those that identify with a gender are corrected but i think TNG handled it alot better and without as much holyier than thou preaching.
That episode was trying for a metaphor on homosexuality, and failed at every step because of cowardice and idiocy. Plus, it ends with the identity rape being 'successful', and no real repercussions for the race involved from the Federation. TNG was not ready, equipped or willing to do any of it properly.
@@Jokie155 Hardly, the J'naii are an androgynous species that view the expression of any sort of male or female gender, and especially sexual liaisons, as a sexual perversion. According to their official doctrine, the J'naii had evolved beyond gender and thus view the idea of male/female sexuality as primitive. Those among the J'naii who view themselves as possessing gender are ridiculed, outcast, and forced to undergo "psychotectic therapy" - a form of conversion therapy meant to remediate gender-specificity and allow acceptance back into J'naii society
@@DougieMonster31 the writers of that episode said rick berman had the ending of the episode changed at the last minute to flip its meaning completely on its head and now be pro conversion therapy the whole point originally was that "official doctrine" isn't an excuse to infringe on peoples's control of their body and mind, and that just because something is being presented as an evolution doesn't mean it actually is the episode was supposed to be pro trans right and it was turned into something transphobic by a notorious bigot
She acts fine in this part of the scene, but she's way out of line infusing herself in their family dynamics without being willing to stick around for any of the results/consequences... Just drops in, drops a bomb, and goes on with her childless life having sex with whomever she isn't married to, leaving bordus and clyden to pick up the pieces. She really doesn't have many redeeming qualities. Just inherent skills. She never trains, she's just stronger than a mocklan because of girl power I guess, and *of course* she knows better than a family with two-men as parents. Her ego is out of control from s01e01 cheating on the protagonist through here, with no character growth or ownership of her actions.
