Not a big drop, max cushion, wide toe box, and does everything well for a trainer, I'm pretty excited about it, personally. Bit surprised you were both meh on it.
Other than a little more stack height, I am wondering how this differs from the Phantom 3. I would be excited to see TOPO make a full stack Pebax marathon racing shoe
Race day, firm no, but between the Atmos and Mtn Racer 3, you’ve got two daily trainers that will get you through 500+ miles very easily and still have tons of life in them. They are worth the sticker price. With their rocker they hold a decent effort pace pretty easily, but are def not a tempo shoe. I’d say I’d buy them again, but idk if I’ll ever have to replace them.
Feel like Topo is not aiming for that super bouncy midsole. The more you run in their zipfoam the better it gets and your feet and tendons feel stronger. Also, the upper kidfoot for is better than almost any shoe I've ever tried. Topo fans will surely love this opportunity to go max cushion
Is the specter available? I was going back and forth on the cyclone and specter, and pulled the trigger on the specter. Super happy with it. I'm hoping for a full pebax midsole topo.
I get the review. Topo is my daily wear brand because of the fit. Gotta say that while I find the latest generation of Zipfoam better than the first, I'm just not "Wow-ed" by it. Though I have a Topo foot and Topo shoes for running in my quiver, I almost never reach for them. If the MTN Racer 3 had the ride of the Xodus Ultra...now that would be a shoe I'd wear daily out on the trails.
Maybe I’m missing the point here, but surely if these are their max cushioned shoe, with the high stack, and soft cushioning then they’re not meant to be bouncy and fast? I would compare them to other max cushioned trainers like the Ghost Max and Nimbus 25, rather than the other faster high stack daily trainers like the Triumph 21. As far as max cushioned shoes go they’re great for daily training, easy and recovery runs with a great balanced cushioning and rolling feeling.
I run with Topo be it in trail or on the road. The road shoes like the Specter and possibly this one needs some k’s to “break” the Zipfoam. For my part, I found the cushion-bouncy feeling just comme after some running in it.
huge fan of the channel even though I don't run as much as I should and havent bought a new pair of shoes since my altra escalante's last year lol... anyway wanted to comment for the first time to say the new camera looks amazing!! the 60 fps kills it. keep it up guys
@@Woosaah1981 possibly, black clothes definitely are, but i've never noticed enough of a difference in shoes for it to matter. my runs are early morning so feet heat isn't really an issue for me
@@DaveRuns13.1 I’d say it’s pretty close; out of the box probably the Ghost Max, but once you have a bunch of miles in the Atmos, it’s probably a dead heat. I prefer the rocker in the Atmos.
Yeah. I’d love to switch to Topo from Altra but I hate the arch mountain. I have high arches but the arch support in Topo and Hoka stabs the middle of my foot and it’s annoying. Otherwise Topo makes a good shoe.
@@brewlovinrunner it depends on the shoe. For me Topos Runveture 4, MTN Racer 2 and Ultraventure 1 did not have pronounced arch support so it was ok to run in. But the Cyclone 1 was total miss, it is so narrow in the midfoot that it stabs the foot exactly as you pointed out. Wondering if it is better in Cyclone 2.
Never even heard of Topo, nice to know there's a company making wide toeboxes. Too bad it's not bouncy from the sounds of it also I'm not into arch support.
I’m a huge Topo shoe guy. But, unfortunately at around 150 miles they are starting to break down and cause hot spots. At around 40-45 minutes they feel over cushy and my feet start wanting something firmer
I am so used to Topo shoes and how they look and feel that I think pointy toed shoes look ridiculous i.e. Saucony. After years of wearing foot shaped shoes with toe spacers most other shoes squeeze my toes; ASICS is an exception
So, it has a little more stack and is heavier than the Topo Specter. I wear the Specter as a casual shoe as I need the wide toe box. I have a very hilly marathon in November. Was hoping this would be the shoe. Ran same marathon in the New Balance Fuel Cell Rebel v3 last year and it did fine. Was looking for similar comfort but perhaps a little more speed. Maybe NB Super Comp Trainer v2 in a wide or even the Super Comp Elite v3 in a wide.
The crew over at Road Trail Run had nothing but high praise for this shoe. They said it was one of the best max cushion shoe they've tested so far in 2023. Your review of this shoe is just meh! RTR also felt the Topo Spector was also a good shoe. You guys and gals thought it was awful. Does Believe In Run breathe different air than the folks over at Road Trail Run?
BITr, Seth Demoor, Kofuzi, R2R, Ginger Runner, Run 4 Adventure, Jamison Michael (we miss you)… they all review differently. But that’s piles of information for you to learn from, and once you learn how the different channels are individually biased to their own preferences and you’ve tried enough shoes, you learn who reviews more similarly to what you like, and you know how to take the info from the others to negate certain shoes or pull the trigger on others. Soak in all the beta, learn, adapt, splurge.
@@twinningtherace114 And what I’ve learned from some of these influencers you’ve mentioned is that you can’t believe every review due to their affiliation with the shoe company. Plus the most knowledgeable influencers you didn’t mentioned are doctors of running which are really the ones I trust.
Although the latest Zip foam, is better than the first generation Zip foam, it's far from other brands midsole material. It's still very dull and not as energetic. Specter and Cyclone shines compared to Atmos and the difference is the Pebax. Zip foam might work better on the trails . Something also tells me that this shoe was a bit rushed to get out. It was not at the TRE -22, and I feel the upper fit is not there, everything feels over sized......Bring more Pebax and more modern foams Topo!
Topo shoes have never worked for me. Why make a “wide” shoe to only then make the midfoot/arch area so narrow that it essentially becomes a B width shoe. Plus they feel so unstable compared to Altra shoes.
They aren't making wide shoes, they are making foot shaped shoes. Generally speaking the toes are the widest part on a foot and it tapers down towards the heel. But it's impossible to make something for everyone. I'm a fan though
