You literally have to be a family to have that level of harmony, elocution and control. NO amount of practice will get you there. June's scatting is incredible. RIP queens June and Bonnie
I just love this period of the early Pointer Sisters. So tight, so much energy and style. Later they moved to more mainstream pop, and it was good for their careers, but I still prefer their early eclectic mix of tunes, which really showcased their incredible talent.
Agree agree agree. First two albums are still on my shelf, never boaring. Saw them live around 1974 in Germany. Salt Peanuts, Little Pony, Cloudburst... with the genius piano of Herbie Hancock.
I listened to this album, daily, all during my 10the grade year in school. I am a white guy that lived near Disneyland. Not long later, I worked at Disneyland and saw them for an entire summer, in 1973, on and off. I freakin loved them. Knew all the lyrics, could sing it all. Bless Bonnie! No one can replicate these four wonderful singers. Have the album still!
R.I.P. Ms. Bonnie Pointer. The Pointer Sisters never would have happened had it not been for Bonnie. Ms. Pointer released three albums with Motown before stepping back a bit from the spotlight, though she still performed periodically over the years. There is always one in a girl group, that actually makes the group POP. Ms. Pointer was that lady.
Nice performance...hard to watch now that Bonnie and June are gone...both too soon, after far too many problems in their lives...both should have had longer and happier lives...was nice the last couple of years seeing Bonnie here, there, everywhere with Anita...it's a shame Anita, Bonnie, and Ruth never went into the studio together...would have been nice after all the years, for Bonnie to have been a Pointer Sister again...😢
@@neilm.greenberg4173facts💯 i would even venture to say Bonnie discovered the Poi nter Sisters as a group,.then June joined her then Anita..and the rest is history. Bonnie was so excited to be with her sisters again! 2 brief encounters.. It was all over her face she couldn't contain it. Shame,..bad husband's, bad deals, pitting them against each other and the obvious substance abuse issues. If only they knew they were stronger together than apart..😔💔🥀💔🥀RIP June,Bonnie
Firstly this is a marvelous performance I had no idea.😮 Does anyone know if this song is a standard? I only know the Lambert Hendricks and Ross version and am curious if they were the original authors of this tune or is this song even older than that? Thanks to anyone who reads this comment.
This was not a concert performance. Believe this was dress rehearsal for a television performance back in the 70s. I used to follow them like crazy. Still love them, especially the earlier 40s theme.
Does anyone know? Was this video shot at the old Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis? I was at that concert and I remember the set and I think this was in 1974. The Guthrie used to have concerts on Monday nights when the in-house theatre production was dark. Besides the Pointer Sisters, I remember seeing early, Martin Mull, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks and a couple of great Kenny Rankin concerts. These were all spectacular. I wish they would do concerts on dark nights again. Even in the new theatre, it would be an incredible and memorable experience.
No, it was a live performance for a Dutch television programm called Toppop. I rembember seeing this in music class when I was 14. The teacher said it was the most incredible performance he had ever seen. He was so right.
@@vacarric absolutely 💯didn't like to be boxed into 1 genre over another...they could sing the dictionary if you put it in front of them. That's why their 1st Grammy was for a country song written by Anita and Bonnie ❤️🔥
