For sure going to try the assist hook, i think its a safer idea for the landing off the fish. Personally i run my rear hook opposing to the front hook as it drags through the water more natural..

Why is the rear hook upside down? surely when the lure pauses between pulls, the hook swings down and closes off the gape. But if rigged the "normal" way around, the hook is left gape accessible during pauses. Also the way it's rigged it scratches the crap out of the lure and blunts the hook. I have over 100 topwater lures and a long tank made from several long fish tanks, so I can see how a lure works in the water. Front assist hook is great, but I think the rear is a silly "fad" that people are trying. So the front may increase hook ups but the rear will be cancelling that out. Ta

i just saw a goofy guy in your video holding the rod under his armpit.. FIRED!!! Cant stand to see people hold the rod under the armpit,, losing gear and fish by removing the shock absorbing angle of your rod...

DO NOT cut the other front hook anchor point off! they are a through wire construction (like all good top-water lures). Now Matt has cut it, the wire is not connected to the rear hook anchor point, It's just plastic holding the wire to the rear hook now. Just cable tie or rubber band the assist cord to the other front anchor point. It's not a problem, but what Matt has done here is truly dumb. A great fisherman he may be, but engineering minded- he is obviously not. Also having the rear hook facing down, means when the lure pauses (often when kings hit) there is no hook gape available to catch onto their mouth. When the hook is attached the correct way, the gape angle increases during a pause...also the way Matt has done it, means the lure gets scratched to all shit in an arc shape, but at least this doesn't weaken the lures construction, like his first dumb modification. If you own one, just look underneath through the plastic, to see the wire, and what cutting it does. p.s. I build custom top-water lures and own over 200, if you were wondering why I claim to know my shit where these lures are concerned. This is by far the dumbest mod I have seen, but yes assist hooks on stickbaits/poppers/bibbed lures are great, especially for billfish. Shout! are a brand who make them especially for this application btw.
