Wow, loved the content about daily bread here. It’s right in-line with the Bible Project’s Sermon on the Mount series Weekly Playlist about generous giving!

An especially good one today. I appreciated the concept of ‘what would have happened’ if the manna COULD be stored…the idea of grifters emerging is so true to human nature. And, at last, I actually know what hoarfrost is! (I’m a whiz with hurricanes and tropical storms.)

Loved your comments on God giving them bread, and instantly thought of Ruth 1:6 where God… לָתֵת לָהֶם לָחֶם … I wonder if there is a similar intertextual link happening there as well :) Also love the flip of power! Gosh what a beautiful way of seeing God’s intention for his kingdom!

Are you thinking the church today should follow the Sabbath commandment in a literal or 'by the letter of the law' manner? So, as a congregation no work on Saturday, no going to the grocery store for Saturday's modern manna, no office or yard work, no farm animals work, etc, etc? Or is it the 'spirit' of the thing for us? That is, set aside regular dedicated time for God. For study, prayer, fellowship, what have you. Though not day specific. Of course there may be a 'spirit of the thing' behind all commandments. Anyway, your thoughts. (I made this comment yesterday but don't see it. So if it shows up elsewhere just ignore as operator error.)

Hi Billy, I don't think there is a one-size-fits-all for sabbath keeping. What is one person's labor is another person's rest (e.g. gardening). One principle that is somewhat helpful is to cease doing what we normally do so that this day feels different. Another is to cease from income-generating work, and--to whatever degree possible--work that is merely mundane (cooking, cleaning, laundry, house maintenance, etc.). Our approach has been to keep things very simple food-wise so that we're not absorbed in kitchen work. Other families might find cooking together to be relaxing or relational, compared to the rest of the week. As for which day to celebrate it, I don't have a strong feeling about whether it should be Saturday or Sunday (I practice Sabbath on Sunday in honor of Christ's resurrection, but others feel strongly about keeping the original day).

Arabic today is Minnu, "what it..." literally. I would say since Yeshua was called the bread of life, and the references in NT to He was the bread in the wilderness and the fact that it was not seasonal but present every day for 40 years, would in my mind say definitely not the secretions of insects. And then Sinai law forbade eating of most types of insects, final evidence against the equivalence to the secretions and the "bread from heaven".

I don't know if quail are clean animals to eat. If they are not, it means that when God sent them the birds they had not yet received the Torah.

They ate quail before and after Sinai. It must have been clean!

@@CarmenJoyImesPhD You are absolutely right Dr Imes quails are not considered impure, I just took a look at Deutoronomy and Leviticus. It seems that the I Am was preparing their diet before receiving the Torah. Thank you for your clarification and for your work, even if I sometimes disagree with you, do not take it with resentment. I continue to appreciate your work. 😀👍

So…manna is insect excrement?😬😅
@sharonjacob4782
@sharonjacob4782 26 дней назад
@TreBrickley no, just an interesting current natural occurrence, remember manna was a daily occurrence for 40 years and not seasonal as is the insects. Plus even the NT and Jesus referred to the bread from heaven, not insects. Just to name a few differences between the miraculous manna and the natural seasonal phenomenon.

I mean . . . that's what some people claim. Which is so . . . unappetizing! But I agree with Sharon's comment.
