These two concerts from Montreux in 1991 and 1992 catch Tori Amos right at the start of her solo career. The first from July 1991 was filmed a few months before the release of her "Little Earthquakes" album and the second from July 1992 followed a few months after. There is a fascinating progression from one year to the next as she grows in confidence and skill as a live performer, buoyed by the critical and commercial success of the album. Naturally most of the songs are taken from "Little Earthquakes" but there are also rare songs from her various EPs released across the two years which didn't make it onto the album including her distinctive takes on Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and "Thank You" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

I lived past the age of 21 partially because of this woman’s music. It made me feel like I wanted to live one song longer. Then another. Then another. Thank you Tori. I’m an RN now and you’ve helped me live long enough to help other people live on. Sometimes one hour at a time.

The first time I heard this was on a cold Winter day in my car. I pulled over to listen, mesmerized, on an icy road under falling snow, living in a town I hated but couldn't leave. I didn't catch who it was on the radio. It was like the time I saw the most beautiful woman in the world on the Star Ferry crossing from Hong Kong to Kowloon, simply brush the hair out of her eyes, and I saw novels. I listened to the same station hoping to catch the song again and find out who it was. Some time later, I lay in bed late one night and the song came on the radio. I was transfixed when the phone rang. A very rare event in my tiny basement apartment. I didn't jump out of bed to answer it. I had to hear this song again, see the beauty in Hong Kong again, and learn who was singing. The phone rang and rang and then stopped. The next day my mother called me. She said, "Your grandmother died yesterday. I tried to call you."

It's amazing how a song can take on a different meaning, the older I get. I'm 43 and have been a fan since my early teens. I have two amazing children and I just played this song for them while making a valentine box for school ... And I just lost it and balled. Her lyrics and metaphors are so powerful. They continue to be an influence and inspiration for the way I think about things and view life. Truly an artist that reaches the soul like very few can.

When papa wasn't listening to talk radio, he would play one of the CDs that he burned of her live performances and other recordings, and he bought me copies of "Little Earthquakes" and "Under The Pink" for my 13th birthday. I was here at this magical unforgettable concert, and she was absolutely right, things will change...absolutely everything has changed, and almost nothing for the better. The word change synonymous with complete degradation. Her point being stay strong in your heart and soul as everything around you tears into pieces.

All time favorite Tori tune. Last night I had a flotation therapy session and I had my own playlist i made on in the pod. When this song came on.... holy hell. I cant even describe the feeling of being completely surrounded by this song. Just feeling that building composition wash over me. The whole experience took me somewhere outside of the pod. If you float and like to listen to your own playlists, definitely add this track. Its amazing

I come back to this song and performance from time to time and have for years and will continue to. She is gripping and dripping with talent. Should have 550 million views if not a billion. First heard this about 10 years ago and come back to it annually. Cannot get through Winter without another listen.

Hi Tori, don't know if you will remember me but I was a regular at your piano at the Marbury House's Lion's Gate Taverne, one night during your break you asked me to walk you to the 4 Seasons snack bar, that was when you told me about your upcoming plans to record music. Hated seeing you go, it took until mid 2000's till I figured out you became Tori Amos, I knew you as Ellen. You were amazing then, late 80's as you are now. Special talent.

Only recently come across this heart rendering performance. Even if it wasn’t for the hint of tears in her eyes all the way through and the occasional catch in her throat (particularly near the end), the beauty & strength of the lyrics alone would be sufficient to touch our souls. This is a perfect illustration of the power of genuine emotion combined with live performance. Powerful enough for me to take a serious look at my relationship with my own daughter. Thank you Tori.

The emotional power of this song gets me man. We all hear about masterpieces and such as we get older and I think we all will eventually find that one personal "Masterpiece" that is hard to not revisit. Tori is very underrated and In my opinion on a Mozart level of mastery in her music. Her music is amazing.

Thank you Tori for enriching and inspiring me throughout the years. Your genuine songs and compositions have followed me since my teeanage years and they still grow in my mind and they have been probably the best therapy for my mental pain and suffering ever! I have in deed been skating around the truth who I am and I realize now more than ever that the ice is getting thin. This particular performance in the video is really representative of how authentic and unique you are as one of the worlds greatest performers. Give me life, give me pain, give me myself again! You are truly my anchor and I can always rely on your music! I'm my mother, I'm my son and both of them shall walk with me towards the rising of the Sun and your music will accompany us in our perfect triangle of imperfection and remind us of life and renew our spirit and the love of one another! Thank you!

I played (not sang lol) this piece as a young man when I wasn't learning Chopin, Mozart etc. I think it gave me a different appreciation for music. Tori is such a talent and now as a father of a super intelligent and amazing and kind daughter, I can't imagine the emotions Tori's dad would feel hearing this.

when she sings this song and tries to keep the teras from flowing, it hits the depth of life and what I have gone through, this song she sings brings back a lot of memories and tears in my life, Tori is the artist I think deserve all accolades and tribute for bringing out what everyone has gone through. she has done what few artists have done, she has done what other artists have not been able to do.
