On this day, a marginal risk for severe weather extended from West Texas to Del Rio reaching eastward towards College Station, TX due to a slow moving cold front advancing southward, interacting with warm, moist air moving northward from the Gulf of Mexico, causing atmospheric instability in the Central Texas region. A result of these ingredients was an EF1 tornado that started at 8:22 AM just east of U.S. Route 183 in Leander, moving northwestward towards Liberty Hill, dissipating at 8:43 AM in that area (The NWS report for this tornado can be found here: nwschat.weathe.... What made this event so unusual was that the Storm Prediction Center didn't even forecast a probability for tornadoes in Central Texas, yet one occurred in what seemed like the blink of an eye; shows how unpredictable Texas weather can be during storm season!
