Hey Josh! It sure made quick work of those two chores!

One thought about the bar tightener, make sure to loosen before you put it away. The least bit of moisture between the nut and the bar can cause it to rust together. The problem lies with the convenient plastic housing that holds the nut. It’s impossible to get it apart without breaking it after it is seized with rust.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer

never had that happen my brotha

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer the good thing is, if does happen they make replacements so it’s an easy fix but a slight pain in the neck.

That is what I was going to ask is what you will do with all the cut-down brush and tree limbs but placing it back in the forest for wildlife habitat is so awesome! thanks for throwing that in at the end of the video. Great Stewardship of the land man! Have a great week!

With the new chain, they all stretch in the first few cuts as they bed in. I'd say thats why "you lost the chain". A simple re adjust , and you're all good to go. I love watching your videos, Josh.

Excellent video! That bottom cut also prevents damage to the tree. The bottom cut prevents the bark from being ripped off the tree when the top cut cuts off the limb. Ripping off bark can severely injure a tree or even kill it. This is especially important on trees that are visible like your willow oak, a.k.a specimen trees.

I always thought the undercut was toward the tree from the overcut so that the bark could not peel off the tree and create damage. I observed your method as reversed.
@roydenheimdal
@roydenheimdal 2 года назад
I was taught the same. First cut from the bottom up, second top down further out from the trunk, third to remove the stub leaving the bark collar so the cut will heal.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer

Cut under then cut up top closer to the tree...either way the limb leaps off the branch and doesn't peel

We have an Ego Powerplus pole saw. It’s a great tool for cutting branches. Before this we had an Aldi pole saw. I’m a bit embarrassed to say this but the cheap Aldi chainsaw was my first chainsaw. It worked well till I busted it.

Nothing like slinging poison ivy oil all over, lol. Hope ya cleaned the head so it doesn't come back later... Up north, I've normally left a 4-6" stub, then come back a few years later to trim them closer. It keeps the"wound" away from the tree & rarely sprouts a new branch. Lol, all sorts of opinions. Enjoy the new toy, they are handy. I just haul a small generator & cord, because the electric one i've got has worked well for a couple of decades! Battery is finally better, but.... Thanx !

Yes, I think battery power is the way to go for garden tools, less fuel spillage and maintenance. I would definitely stick to one brand though because batteries are expensive and have a finite life, you don't need to have a unique dedicated battery for every single tool when a couple of big batteries are going to run every tool in a workshop. I remember you using a vertical brush hog a while back for the fence line, maybe that was on hire?

I like Milwaukee cordless products. Also I didn't think you were supposed to cut oak trees this time of year. Increases the chance of oak wilt and insect damage.

Your farm is looking good. I would like to get an electric saw like that. I have some fence lines that look like the one you demo. I will be trying out the Ryobi saw, because I already have Ryobi battery packs. Nothing worse than having multi battery tools around. Thanks for the video, farmer rod

Hey Boss, having some experience tree trimming, I always trimmed as close as possible to the trunk, heals over better, reduces the sprouting. Maybe your way is better to leave a 1" nub, I dunno. I sure like that pole saw.

I have the Harbor Freight electric pole saw, it works great. Would I go cordless, sure, but I'd have to get the pole saw attachment for my Dewalt 60V trimmer...that's been a great investment as well, tons of power even on the low setting, and accepts attachments which is why I got it. It has plenty of power to run my tiller attachment. So, I have been thinking of picking up the pole saw attachment and extension pole. However, I have no complaints at all about my Harbor Freight pole saw, I have used it a lot on the property, its limitations of course is the cord.

I got the DeWalt 24v 13' reach, goes together fast with no tools. I cut up a large dogwood tree that split, topped it and took most of it down with the pole saw then finished it off with the chainsaw. A 4AH battery made over 30 cuts and had 2 bars left. They are only $150 tool only at most places. I went with the DeWalt tool family in 24 v a long time ago so now I just do tool only to save $.
@tokencivilian8507

The bottom of a branch is in compression aka that is where the bind is due to the weigh of the branch causing it to droop. It'll pinch the saw if you do too much of an undercut, so limit how deep you try to go on that undercut. The purpose of the undercut is to prevent slabbing or tearing of the bark. The finishing cut on top is on the tension side of the branch and will naturally open up as the cut is made and the branch droops due to the partial cut. The 3rd cut at the collar of the branch / trunk then eliminates the stob and because it is so short, there effectively is no bind / pinching and no tendency for the bark to tear away.

Let me know how long you get out of the battery before they start to not hold as good of a charge, for quite as long as when they were brand new. Curious about battery life over time, they aren't inexpensive either, unfortunately ! By the way, FYI,. TORO makes a sife by side UTV as well ! A part of their commercial outdoor power equipment line !

I think the captive internal power cord is just asking for trouble... other tool brands use handle segments with sockets, so you can use the full length or even shorten the tool. I would be concerned this one would chafe and faill unless you keep it assembled for transport.

@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 2 года назад
not sure how a pole saw chain would get hot....not cutting huge branches my brotha
@brianhillis3701
@brianhillis3701 2 года назад
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer take your gloves off and touch it. It doesn't take much. The chain always gets longer in use and shrinks back later. Not talking red hot just warmer. Most chain saw manuals mention this and that is why they have easy tool less adjustments on most of them now. Chains don't stretch since that is a permanent change, they expand with the heat from use. Most of the heat is from the bar and sprocket not the tree. Don't oil your chain and your bar will overheat and probably turn blue.
