Toro 721E. Thought it was in need of a carb clean. Then thought it was valve issues. Easy fix in the end.
Let me know in the comments what you think of the new channel and if there’s anything you want to see.

This is my routine with these machines and they start on the first pull 1) I use premium gas treated with Seafoam. 2) Synthetic oil 5w30 as per owners manual 3) at the end of the season, run the machine dry 4) empty carb via drain bolt 5) remove spark plug and replace if dirty. I only use ngk. 6) replace oil regardless of how many hours I used the machine for

I had the same issue with the 721E. I replaced old gas, added fuel stabilizer no change. Replaced spark plug and blower started and works perfect.

That’s great though! My mind goes to carb issue so much that I focus on that too much at time. I want to get a high end spark tester just to rule that out early on.

Just over a week ago I purchased an 821 R-C Commercial. Used it once in 2+ inches of extremely wet snow and it did great. I'v never had serious problems starting any of my Toro equipment over the years that I didn't cause my self. Iv had two Recycler mowers, one Super Recycler and two 2 stroke snow blowers one of which I got used. All were great as long as I kept good gas in them and kept up on maintenance.

95% of the issues I see is exactly that, bad gas. If you maintain your equipment and aren’t asking it to do more then it’s built for, Toro’s will last a long time!

Thanks for this, eh? 🙂What I love about this are the steps you went through, and the kind of frustrations we all get when we try to solve a problem. Great that you didn't edit out the parts that didn't work. Keep up the good work.

Do you happen to remember the kind of plug that was in it? I just changed my father's plug for the first time in four years on his 821. I was surprised not to find a Champion or NGK per the book in it. I put NGKs in both of our blowers. People don't seem to like Bosh plugs that much because of the failure rate. Wouldn't surprise me if it failed on you.

I wish I knew, I’m sorry it’s been a while. I’d stick to the recommended one by the manufacturer. I’ve noticed quite a few issues solved by using the stock plug not the equivalent
@Robsbrd99
@Robsbrd99 10 месяцев назад
@@DependableDonsGarage I agree. Always use what the manufacturer recommends.

12:00 at this point I’m guessing it’s a clogged fuel filter? Could be cause that’s the repair I just did lol. Gonna have to finish the video later but my moneys there. Or even more annoying: new spark plug lol

I have a Toro 721 also. I replaced the gas and oil with fresh. Started fine with the choke out. When I push the choke in the motor runs SUPER fast and super loud and smokes. Is there a fast idle adjustment somewhere on the carburetor?. Thanks for any advice.
@DependableDonsGarage
@DependableDonsGarage 8 месяцев назад
Did it have bad gas in it? Or at least older? I’d recommend cleaning the carburetor still. Sounds like something is clogging a jet causing problems. When you changed the oil, I assume you dumped out the oil? If you didn’t tilt it to the right side oil may have made it to the other side of the engine and it will burn off eventually!
@randyr.212
@randyr.212 8 месяцев назад
Didn't use it last winter because we got no snow, but I thought that I had dumped or ran all the old gas out, although there could have still been some in the carb I guess? I drained all the oil, before replacing with new 5w-30 synthetic. But it is running super loud and super fast after I push the choke in for normal use. @@DependableDonsGarage

@@randyr.212 I’d pull the carb bowl off at least and see. If it’s the first time running it, make sure you have enough oil in but then let it run for a bit. Clean out any of the oil in the gas and see how it runs after that.

Just put a fresh plug in mine because i didn't have anything to do today. What I didnt understand was that you said that it had a wrong plug in it. Did the owner say how it got there?
@DependableDonsGarage
@DependableDonsGarage Год назад
No they didn’t. I think most snowblowers are pretty mistreated in general. Since they are used so infrequently(even in Canada), they are usually just passed on to a family member or someone when the original owner doesn’t need it any longer. I’m sure they were having issues with it and either had a spark plug or picked one up that “looked” right. I will say I was pretty amazed at how such a simple thing made a HUGE difference. Thanks for watching!

@DependableDonsGarage Kinda sad how some people treat these machines. I'll be 54 tomorrow and value mine very much for the speed the driveway gets done and the pain it saves me. I have a 2016 721RC that gets an oil change every other year and did the first plug, fuel filter and primer at 4 years. Just did the 2nd plug today. Should fire right on up in December.
@DependableDonsGarage
@DependableDonsGarage Год назад
It’s true! Do you use a fuel stabilizer or anything for the fuel over the off season? If you don’t have a fuel shut off you should add one!
@Robsbrd99
@Robsbrd99 Год назад
@DependableDonsGarage Only the freshest of non ethanol fuels are purchased in late Nov. 🤣 I buy like 4 gallons and Seafoan. What I don't use over the winter goes back in the can and either in the car or in the mowers. I've had the bowl off over the years and everything looks brand new inside. Zero deposits.

If anybody needs the correct plug for the 721/821 series, here it is. Champion RN9YC / NGK BPR6ES.
