The islands are North America’s largest urban car-free community. Public ferries from the City of Toronto operate year round, departing from Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. A return ticket is $9.10 Canadian.
Privately run water taxis also operate in the summer months from May to September.
The islands have numerous sandy beaches, parks, a public marina, private yacht clubs, a residential neighbourhood, Centreville amusement park, and Billy Bishop airport.
Bicycles are a popular way to get around the island and can be brought with you on the ferry. There are also bicycle rentals available on the islands.
