Playing around with the Osiris LUTs. Shot on GH4. All in C4K at 24p. Dundas Square + Chinatown in Toronto. Lens: Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 ASPH LUMIX G Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D Music: "White Blue Black" - Clouds In My Home
Nice looks and shots. I personally can't stand the whole "this doesn't look cinematic" bs some people like to go on and on about. This certainly looks cinematic enough to me and should to anyone else too. Good work.
+Logan Walcher I got lucky with the lighting and the lenses I used. Opened the apertures all the way. Fortunately, I didn't have to use any denoiser software like NeatVideo when editing the video.
+Kevin Shak Nice! After using mine more, I have actually been impressed by the low light performance. It's not the best... but I've definitely seen worse. Especially if you stay at 800 ISO or below.
Adam Borys Cheers! I don't think I did much in post. I had just purchased the LUTs on the night, then immediately went out to shoot at the locations featured, and then did the tests. Nothing special. :D
Irwan Sjh I don't know the brand name, and it's not imprinted on the adapter. It's not a metabones. Basically, it's a cheap adapter that was given to me.
I have the Osiris LUT and LUT utility for final cut, but I am not sure what preset to use or if I am even using it correctly. Is there a certain preset that I choose for the GH4 or can I choose any of the presets and just drag it over? Which of these did you use for the video? Delta (Rec.709 & LOG) Vision 4 (Rec.709 & LOG) Vision 6 (Rec.709 & LOG) Prismo (Rec.709 & LOG) KDX (Rec.709 & LOG) Jugo (Rec.709 & LOG) DK79 (Rec.709 & LOG) M31 (Rec.709 & LOG) Vision X (Rec.709 & LOG)
I used every Osiris LUT except for Delta. All Rec.709. Basically, my approach was trial-and-error; I tested each one on each shot and went with what I preferred.
Very impressive! I ordered myself a Nikon 50mm for my GH4 as result. How have you managed to create such noiseless footage? What is your method/philosophy on settings for the gh4? (Lastly which adapter have you chosen for your Nikon?) Thanks Kevin!
***** It helps that the places were actually pretty bright at night! I experiment a lot. I saw some tests on vimeo and tweaked the settings to my favor. As for the adaptor, it's a cheap one (don't know the brand name) that was given to me. I heard the metabones speedbooster is pretty awesome.
Thanks Kevin! It's surprising to get such a timely reply. However bright it was over there, great job creatively exposing the video. Every shot felt just right. Which video's are you referencing? I'd like to give them a watch. (I've watched a lot of them, but will trust whichever ones you were watching enough to experiment.)

KKOPPI Depends on where you are (space-wise), what you're working with, and what the objective is for the project. You can include "a person fully in the picture frame" with the 20mm.
Thanks! And sure... ISO was at 200 the entire time. Camera Setting: Cinelike V (-3, -5, -5, -5, +1) i. Dynamic = Off i.Resolution = Off Master Pedestal Level = 0 Luminance Level = 0-255 Highlight -2, Shadow +2 As for Osiris LUTs, each shot uses a different LUT from that collection. I love the M31 and Vision 6 LUTS (some of the shots use a combination of the two).
