Those were the good old days when Simpsons and Eaton’s department stores were on each end of the Eaton Centre. I miss those simpler times.

I remember going to the Cineplex in the Eaton Cetre, I believe it was 1980 when I was 13. My friend and I were expecting 21 full size cinemas, and when we got there the theatres were lucky to have 30-50 seats each. The screen was equivalent to what you'd see in a sports bar today. We went to see the Blues Brothers which had all the 'F' bombs edited out because we weren't old enough to see the 'R' version. Good times. 😄

Anyone remember Lime Ricky’s? I used to love that place, the milkshakes were so good. I remember loving all the cosmetics too and begging my mum to take me into Eatons to let the perfume ladies spray me, I was like 5. Then I’d take the little paper card they sprayed it on and put it in my purse, lol. Simpler times, I miss those days. ❤❤ Such fond memories.

That whole open concept in a mall was a new thing back then and boy was it breathtaking when it first opened just a few years before.

I was working at the Florsheim Shoe store next to the elevator on level 2 at the time this was made. I was one of the people who opened the original store at that mall. Its like looking at a dream.

The overall structure of this mall hasn't really changed at all. It's really just the stores that changed which of course is expected.

I think the first time I went to the Eaton Centre was in 1995 or so. Crazy to think that was only 12 years after this video, and now it’s been 29 years since 1995.

Eaton Centre was the must go to destination for us teenagers in the ‘burbs of Mississauga. I would take public transit there, check out the record stores for import Brit cassette tapes for my Sony Walkman, browse vintage clothing shops on Yonge for a Madonna or Duran Duran inspired item, browse in the mall, maybe buy Levi’s jeans or a Polo shirt if I had birthday gift money. I remember browsing in The Body Shop when it was such a new concept, then checking out the funny stuff in the emporium next to Mr.Greenjeans. Lunch in Mr.Greenjeans was a big deal.. Still remember the buffalo chips. 🤣

As much as Toronto has changed since back in the day (I was only born in '95), I try to find the beauty in today with the understanding that today will be tomorrow's "back in the day". However, I definitely wish that the "trend" of 2024 onwards is to do "vintage" things like in the 80s and 90s, like be present, be respectful, listen to happy music, have safe fun, and love thy neighbour!

Eaton Centre was a bad idea for Eaton's , they built a Mall around their flag ship store that sold the same merchandise but cheaper than them ,no wonder Eaton's went Bankrupt

Current day Walter C McKenzie building (U of A hospital) in Edmonton looks a lot like this (same era, same architect). Soaring atrium, exposed HVAC duct, white railings, globe fixtures, glass elevators. Both of a piece.
