This is Part 1 of a 2 part video.
It's unbelievable how much great fishing there is right off the shores of downtown toronto.
There's a huge misconception that Lake Ontario is unclean. The presence of large and beautifully coloured northern pike, the top predator in the food chain, shows the health of our waterfront.
Today the water was crystal clear and with the sun out it I can see everything.
Sight-fishing is really fun. It gets the heart pumping, especially when you see a huge northern following centimeters from your lure.
Enjoy the video and make sure to watch Part 2 (currently being edited).

I really love fishing and I do fish alot here in Sweden (pike, perch, greyling, trout) and now I'm heading over to Toronto to visit some friends and I wonder if you guys have any special regulations for fishing around that area or if it's just to get some gear and head out?.
@caughtbyconsul96

You need to get a visitors fishing license. Depending on when you come, some fish are in season and some may not be.

great vids! was trying my luck there after work yesterday... no takers but saw some huge carp (i think) which was pretty motivating. have you ever caught anything that late in the day? what time is best in your opinion?
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 8 лет назад
I went 2 days ago. Saw at least 10 huge carp. 1 large fat pike (at least 32") and one massive BOWFIN that actually turned nip my bait. Pike took zero interest. Put 3 different baits in front of his nose. Surprising mid-afternoon for some reason is when I see the most fish there. Odd but that's what I've noticed. But I've one been there once early morning. Never really had luck in the evening.

great video! my buddy and i are always trying to find places in the city to go fishing. we are 16 so we have to get our parents to drive us. any suggestions as to where to go. we've been to multiple spots (bluffers park, professors lake) and got skunked so we are trying to find a spot.
@caughtbyconsul96

The awesome thing about Toronto is that there are so many places along the lakeshore where you can fish that are easily accessible by street car. Part of the fun is trying new spots. I even go back to spots where I've got skunked. By that same token, I've got skunked many many times at spots where I've caught :) The think about fishing is that you never know! Try Humber Bay Park East and West. Take a look at it on google maps and fan cast where you think looks good. The best way to find spots is to cover water. Good luck. Message me any time. Have you fished Marie Curtis Park? I live in Etobicoke and I am looking for someplace to go bass fishing locally.
@caughtbyconsul96

I've walked around there but have not tried casting. It looks like there's potential there. Do some google searches to see if anyone has had success there. Col. Sam Smith park and Humber Bay park east and west are really good on the right days. Good luck.

Hi this is so cool! I live in the humber bay condos on marine parade drive. Feeling bitter sweet about moving in less than a week to London Ontario. I'm going to do something I've wanted to do for a whole year now (ever since moving to Humber Bay Shores) - I'm going to try fishing around here. Just wondering if you had any luck when you went? Any suggestions on locations or lures? Where is Marie Curtis Park BTW?
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 7 лет назад
D Will Try fishing Humber Bay Park east and west. Both hold fish. Walk around and explore. Finding spots is one of the joys of fishing. Marie Curtis is way west at the end of Etobicoke. I've never tried fishing there.

Do you mean eat? I return all the fish I catch but the ministry website says lake Ontario fish are edible (depending on type and size). I didn't know harbour front had boat rentals.

You should switch from using the snap swivel all the time. It's lazy fishing and the baits action was designed to have line tied to the bait. Snap swivel throws that off and makes one look like a beginner fisherman. It took me a while to get good at knots to where it was really quick to change baits but it pays off.
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 8 лет назад
What you say is true. Now I'm using just a tiny size 1 Mustad snap and no swivel. Honestly, I think the action lost is minimal. You're right, it is kinda lazy but way faster, no matter how fast one can cut and tie and trim a knot. Thanks for the tip though. On a boat, I carry multiple rods, each with a different directly tied lure.
@minemasterteam1149
@minemasterteam1149 8 лет назад
+Fishing with Michael Consul same here, I am lazy so I use a a tiny snap. A snap is honestly much better than a snap swivel, unless you have a spoon or spinner so the line don't get twisted.
@matsmats8036
@matsmats8036 7 лет назад
you should be using a soft mat. laying the fish on the stones will damage it, can possibly kill it aswell.
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 7 лет назад
mokkelsmurf mokkelsmurf You are right. The concrete stoney surface not good for the fish. I will look into a portable mat. Good idea.

get a proper catch and release net if you are a true conservationist, fish fins get rekt with the one you"re using. (for the lesser knowledged people: rubber nets)
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 8 лет назад
I fish for fun. I release all the fish I catch in Toronto. I buy my food from the grocer, I don't need to catch my food. That being said, sometimes at the cottage I'll keep a few fish to eat. Would I call myself a "conservationist?" I don't know. Do I care about the health of the fish I release? YES. So your point is well taken.

terrible handling followed by a terrible release learn how to handle a fish or don't go fishing
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 7 лет назад
Mark Boyle You're right. That was literally the 4th pike I ever caught in my life. I have learned a lot since then on how to hold and handle pike (and other species of fish). Generous and more seasoned pike fisherman have given me some good handling tips that I can employ on future catches. I thank those who taken time time to give me constructive feedback vs commenters that solely bash without adding or sharing to the pool of knowledge.
@markboyle9313
@markboyle9313 7 лет назад
Yeah I wasn't trying to bash u at all I hate when I see videos of people mishandling fish u have to handle them properly so that wherever you are fishing the species will thrive and get bigger every year but from what u said u where just learning I can't knock u for that I dropped a musky from chest height when I first started musky fishing so we all make mistakes you learn and u grow
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 7 лет назад
Mark Boyle It's all good. Offering proper handling info is more constructive then saying "don't go fishing." :) Someone suggested some sort of landing mat to protect fish's scales and slime. Another person suggested a better rubberized live release net. Other people have shown me how to properly hold a big pike (rather then vertical). Learning in process.
