i can honestly declare that i have driven this particular bus several times, & quite possibly on the 52-lawrence west route, too; it's great to see & hear it again, especially on the roads in ireland; these buses weren't very quick off the line, none of them in toronto had air-conditioning, nor disability-access, but they ran pretty reliably & were great in the snow! the t.t.c. got almost 30 years of service out of these buses (i drove 1 once that was 27 years old!), & i'm very happy to have had the opportunity to drive them; thanks for the upload...
I was the last employee to drive this bus on the night of it's last service run on Lawrence . I'm heading to Ireland the first of June and would love to see it.
I was chatting with a driver once and he said it works off location when I questioned why it was announcing stops we weren't stopping at due to a detour. Either something is funny with that Fishes GPS or it wasn't location on the older busses.
Hi there, I happened to be the very last passengers on TTC 2290 right before it was retired. Very happy to hear it is preserved in Europe. We are visit in February next month. I was just wondering. How much would it cost to rent the bus for a ride into Downtown Dublin for some photos? :) Thank you!
2290 is now privately owned by a group who are involved in bus preservation in Ireland. It will be used for enthusiasts runs, brought to shows, bus rallies/ events.
Interesting to know that an Irish group of bus enthusiasts is preserving a Canadian bus. Also, why is there a Scottish built bus bound for Toronto Canada in Liverpool England ??
What a shame that in Toronto, there is not a Transportation Museum! We are selling our heritage to other countries because they know how to handle it....
I'm seriously considering visiting England in the new year and may go to see 2290 if I know if I can get access to it. Can you tell me more about the group? Also, I heard that three more GMs may come in 2014? Can you confirm or deny?
