Preserved Irish Transport.com is dedicated the bus preservation scene in the Republic of Ireland. Formally the website for the Transport Enthusiasts Club of Ireland, this website has now incorporated all major contributors in the both the preservation and historical fields. In the coming months, a new interactive system will be launched to cover both of these areas.

The small group of preservationists in Ireland currently house some 100 + buses with the vast majority formally operated by the state companies C.I.E, Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann, Interests also include buses built in Ireland such as the Bombardier family. To date, the vehicles cover the period from 1947 - 1993.

Thanks to co-operation with the C.I.E companies, Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus, preservationists has been able to preserve the majority of vehicle types which were operated by the state companies.

Restoration of vehicles is always happening - the last project was former Dublin Bus Leyland Olympian RH7. The restored vehicles have been on various rally circuits over the years. There are currently 3 buses undergoing restoration as of March 2010.

The restored buses have appeared in many films and television programs such as 'A Man of No Importance' and more recently in a advertisement for 'Club Orange' with Bedford school bus, SS747. In March 2010, buses for a feature on RTEs Capital D, RH7, D635 and DF839 were featured. This is available to view on our RU-vid channel.

For years, the Transport Enthusiasts Club of Ireland ran the Dublin Bay Rallies which took place annually in conjunction with C.I.E. It is hoped to have these events again soon, the last one being the 60th anniversary of C.I.E in 2005.

Events attended include the annual I.T.T rally in Cultra Belfast Showbus in Cambrideshire and numerous other vintage rallies. Runs around Dublin City are done on a regular basis in many different buses.

This website nor is contributors/associates receive funding from any private or state body. Restorations, costs and storage are all paid for by the vehicles owners. The buses are not used for commercial service however are available for hire for film work etc.

Feel free to contact us via the link at the top of the page or via the email address below.

look at how well painted and clear the road markings are, plus the condition of the roads - Britain still had some standards then.

Nice example of Roadcraft which has been used in the UK for decades by Police and the Institute of Advanced Motorists. I passed my Advanced driving test 45 years ago and subsequently used the skills acquired as a Police driver. This fella had a healthy attitude towards hazards (i.e. anything which causes you to change speed or direction). Not so many examples on 2024 roads though.

I recall flying transatlantic on those Aer Lingus 747-100's.Roomy and spacious. And a wonderful humming engine sound on take off. Those were the days, before much smaller twin jets took over.Memories.!.

For a number of years, British Airways leased a 747 (ex EI-ASJ) from Aer Lingus. It’s UK registration (G-BDPZ) ended in the letters ‘PZ’, so it was known as Paddy Zulu. It had the old Dash 3 engines and was used initially on the Chicago and New York routes. Then it became a dedicated aircraft on the Dharan route. When the aircraft was returned to Aer Lingus and re-painted in their new colours, there was a little plaque left on the flight deck. It read:”Fly Green-side up”.

wish society was as pleasant and respectful today as it was back then. Our society has turned into an unsafe, unrespectfull, dangerous, sick society of drug dealers, users and general crime committers, its a real pity Dublin has changed so sadly and dramatically.

A different world to the Dublin City centre of today... dont see any scumbags or trouble makers on the streets here.... wish it was the same today as in this video - people just going about their own business, no trouble. The way it should be. Where did it all go so wrong in todays Dublin city???
