John, great vid. Curious if you might make a couple more vids, one to explain the band apply levers, why there are different ratios, when and why you would use one over stock. Also maybe one to talk about the stock 46RH torque converters, the different codes and the stall speeds and what application each converter came from. I ask because I have a 518 to put behind my stock 383 Super Commando in my '68 RR and I see there are stock converters that stall as high as 2600, code is 642. It seems the factory converters feel more normal on the street when you are not needing a big stall. If I was building a race car I would go across the river and get Kenny & Sam at PTC to build somthing for me but this is a daily driver. I don't know what the 642 came in, my guess is a 360 Magnum but I don't know, it could have bee a 3.9 that needed the stall to get moving. Thanks for the great vids, the ones ont he bands and the Belleview strings are really good info.
John had a video talking about benefits of using a high stall with lock-up - best of both worlds. The stall should be set up unique based on your application. FWIW I am putting a 46RH behind a 440 and no way would I use a stock torque converter. They are too fragile. I will say though the stall in my '98 van is pretty high, van has a 318 with towing package.
Great video as usual John! I don't blame ya for moving away from that re-liner. Guys like us just know when something's gone down the drain. I'm sorry, but I'm sick of the "post COVID" shit quality parts and the excuses that go along with it. Thank you for fighting the good fight to keep 727s great! Mopar to ya! 🏁🏁
I have used tons of alto reds and raybestos blues but honestly can't say either one is better than the other. Keep good clean oil and don't get it hot and they both last great.
The apply levers would be a great video. As far as band selection goes I’ve have switched to using rigid bands in my transmissions in 2015~ if the budget allows and have had zero issues. Only performance diesel applications and my view or understanding of why they get a bad reputation in my mind was poor shift timing. They seem to not really tolerate a improperly tuned shift. Your thoughts? Diesel wise most are hardcore flex band and I do get that if they go they usually don’t damage your drum but the rigids just seem to take abuse when setup right so much better. Average torque is 1000-1600’ lbs. Your take?
Nice!!! I have a TCI 904 . After a year it would not go into 2. Took the band out. All the red stuff came off the back. What do you do about that. I went to 5 parts stores trying to get a band. I didn’t know about you then. Yeah It was during Covid. Found only 1 band in the US ! ! Stock band. I have gone a year with it. Will it hold up?? What the heck is the deal with all the companies. You can’t even get parts anymore, you can’t trust any of the name brand companies anymore,no one fixes anything anymore more. What the heck are we supposed to do without people like you? The people at the parts store don’t know anything anymore and you have to tell them about the stuff you want. What do you do to get parts?
