@@heartofthewild680 Yes there spine is attached to their she'll and it has nerve endings running through it.

@@heartofthewild680 It's not as sensitive as skin, but they absolutely can feel it. If you have a turtle, try giving it a good brushing once in a while. Just make sure to use something with soft bristles. (toothbrushes are fine.)

to oversimplify, their shell is kind of like our fingernails, but just bigger, so there's sensation under there. pls be kind 2 turt

@@heartofthewild680 they can! Kind of like your teeth, there are nerves in them. Tortoises usually like having something solid to scratch against. Some people think its for removing old scutes on the shell, I like to think they need back scratches like we do :)

@@taki203 Yup, stationed in Alaska, which is where he mastered his style of painting. It was a good way to paint the beautiful scenery he saw around him during short downtime. But he was a sergent - the one who yelled at people for things like having dirt on their boots, and he swore to himself that if he ever made it through, he would never yell again. I may be missing some of the details, but that's the basics. :-)

@@theburgerking1236 Yes actually! A zoo recently installed a brush setup that their turtles would be able to use to scratch themselves an it was very popular amongst the turtles there.

@@ThePebblypirate That's very helpful to know! I don't have space for a turtle right know but I certainly would love to have one if I ever get the space for another tank. I don't want to make the mistake of caring for it badly so information like this is quite good. It seemed like a good way to bond with the turtle but I haven't done very in depth research yet: because as I said I don't have the room at the moment and likely wont for quite a while. But thank you!

@@patrickdees5256 At first my turtle did that to but I was scrubbing his shell a bit too hard just to get the algae off of it. But after trying a few different brushes and being a bit more gentle he pretty much enjoyed it.
