*Do you think Torterra ex could be a sleeper deck of the format? And thanks again to Fred over on* Patreon.com/RareCandyTCG *for requesting to see Torterra ex on the channel!*
It definitely could, but it’s up to players to make a good decklist for the meta with the right tech grass Pokémon. I think it’s unfinished and will only get better with more sets. The SV era doesn’t release many full decks and it takes multiple sets for most evolution decks to blossom like in the old rs era.
I love the idea of a 400+ hp torterra, but I think the ace spec of choice should always be Maximum belt. 180 is just not enough damage to be relevant, but pushing it up to 230 can ko any basic ex in the format.
Honestly I've found myself using cape more to keep basics alive or making Toedscruel a pain to KO. I just wish belt applied to Vs to be able to KO Entei. I don't love any of the Ace Specs in particular for this deck but I could see the argument for belt.
My deck runs the beautiful that has an ability that says "draw till 6 cards in hand" I play 3-4 tm evo. That turn one using 5that attack is the best way most consistent way to evolve everyone and get everything out turn two. I feel like my ace spec will be maximum belt.. My games work so fast..
Thanks for posting the list! I had a much different version for the list, using Hisuian Lilligant VSTAR for Grass Pokemon search turn 2 and Gardenia's Vigor for the energy acceleration, with the single prize Torterra as a secondary attacker, and a 1-1 Kricketune for extra HP, but I can see this one would work better! There's almost a part of me that still wants to include the Kricketune just for the little extra buff though
maybe the new Shaymin? [G] Pinpoint Dive: This attack does 60 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon ex or Benched Pokémon V. (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)
Yep that was on my short list of cards to include, but usually you are using cards to switch into Torterra rather than switching it out. Still isn't bad though.
Baby Torterra seems like an obvious inclusion. I also greatly prefer Beautifly instead of Radiant Venusaur, from my testing with just the baby Torterra decks.
The other Torterra requries 2 Energy to attack unfortunately, and without some big alterations it'd be pretty tough to be able to quickly power one up when you need to. ☹
Unpopular opinion but I think it’s so boring whenever there’s a new super strong deck like Giratina or now Charizard. Especially bc it’s usually a beloved Pokemon so you know everyone is gonna want to play it. It’s just lame to play against the same deck over and over with no personalized strategy and care. I’m always so excited whenever I play against a super cheesy mean deck that I haven’t seen before. One time I saw a deck that mainly used abilities and items that made me draw cards. In the end I had almost nothing to play. It was a close match as I had to rush to hit his Pokémon as quickly as possible and he had to rush to get me to pull my entire deck. It was infuriating but also cool because I’ve never played against a deck like it. At least you made it your own thing. I hope to encounter a few decks like this in the future. Currently there’s hardly any grass decks being played, so this seems cool. I think it’s fine when people customize popular decks but I hate seeing the same deck in every match.
