Tortorella's Kind Gesture, Shesterkin Contract Talks, Last Night's Notable Stats 

John Tortorella is and has always been a class act. Loved him at Rangers. He gets some bad press, but the guy wears his emotions on his sleeves. Honesty and straight talking is very rare these days. Treasure people like him, coz one day they are no longer wanted in the limelight.

I love torts so much. I hope the entire Gaudreau family feels the love and support from the hockey community ❤️

Tortorella is a gem, a brutal coach to play for but a genuinely good man.

I know Torts gets a bad wrap, but this, the Hayes situation and especially how he stood up during the Kyle Beach situation tells you all you need to know about his character. He's a real one.

Torts is absolutely a stand up guy. We should always applaud and respect people who are as honest and direct as he is. It's a rare quality, and something that usually gets people fired. But he's so good at his job that he can afford to be himself, instead of putting up a fake front. He obviously has a temper and a half, and I'm sure he's been involved in many personal conflicts with players and staff (and, famously, the media), but I've always figured him for a dude who stands up for his players and does what's right, come whatever may.

Guy Gaudreau, Johnny and Matthew’s father, is originally from Vermont. Reportedly, he still speaks French. Guy’s grand-parents were part of this wave of French-Canadians migration to New England at the end of 19th and beginning of the 20th century. So, I pretty sure he would be glad if you call him Guy, like Guy Lafleur.

People will say what they will about a man like Torts who shows his fiery passion like a badge of honor, but they should also understand that he is a kind, thoughtful man who always uses his heart for every decision... And that is what is called being a man among men...

I have always had mad respect for Torts. He only gets bad press because the media hate being challenged for facts. Anyone who stands up for their players, especially the ones you may not see eye to eye with, is someone you want on your side.

Class act from Torts. Probably knows that Guy needs to get out of the house right now. Can’t let depression get to you. I know it’s important to be sad, to grieve, to be angry. But knowing when to move on is important as well.

Torts is my favorite coach of all time, im sure MSL will take that in the future but the memories of torts over the years are awesome. That hardass has a big heart and actually cares about his peers, thats been clearly illustrated many times. When youre great at something, especially something that requires constant innovation you dont get other torts. Hes a one of one and im glad hes still in the league

The people that don't like Torts don't realize that he is an extremely principled person. Clearly he always wants to just do what he feels is best and is always all in, 100%. What a nice thing he's done here.

How could you not love Torts?! I'll never understand the hate.. The guy is a beauty! From continously going at the New York reporter back in the day to him storming The Calgary Flames locker room looking for Bob Hartley.. I'd walk through a wall for that guy & I've never met him..

I'd love Torts as the Leafs coach. He'd keep his star players accountable and he'd call out the trash media we have here and keep them in line. He's a good coach and gets the best out of his players and demands effort and accountability, which is what I think most coaches in the NHL expect.

Torts gets paid to be a head coach! He takes his job seriously. From what I've seen going back to New York he is very direct and brutality honest! If you don't want to hear the truth don't talk to him. If you listen he can make you better! Living life in denial of what happens slows down the process of self-discovery! Ben Schwartzwalder comes to mind

I haven't followed football in many years, but even when I did I'd watch a hockey game over a football game any time. Unless maybe the Bengals were on TV and winning, which was a rare event in my football watching days. Even then, who says you can't watch both if you have the remote handy. I hate the idea that, "Oh, we won't schedule against the NFL." What about people who don't care about the NFL but want to watch a hockey game?

John Tortarella, like Chael Sonnen, is not a BAD guy. He's just a bad guy. I think you all get my meaning.

It is French Canadian pronunciation of Guy..Guy Gaudreau’s from Beebee Plain Vt which is close to Quebec border and that heritage. He was a standout player for Norwich University in Vermont in the 1970’s. I had a teammate in my women’s college days at UVM whose dad was longtime coach at Norwich. It was a really fine small college hockey program. 🥅🍃

They do not want to compete with NFL on Mondays... a small percentage of people watch the NHL, most of those people watch the NFL and will choose NFL over NHL. If you want low ratings, go against the NFL. Even the NBA avoids to go again the NFL during the season.

The Igor issue is definitely iffy but I do understand why players don’t like to mess what contract negotiations during the season. Imagine what Hasek would be worth in today’s league? Woof I’m going to check out the prime games, I love that they’re on there

I like this move by Torts, and I appreciate the moments he has where he takes action for a good cause, but I have to push back against the idea that his reputation is caused by people being disturbed by his honesty. Tocchet and Cassidy are two examples I can come up with for coaches who are honest but who are nothing like Tortorella. To me, what's abrasive about Torts is how he comes across as very black-and-white: a character trait that some see as a sign of genius, but I see as the cause of many an unnecessary personality conflict. Maybe he's gotten better with young players. Definitely he will stand up against anything he perceives as BS. But I assert his honesty is not unique, it just seems that way because he butts heads with his players more and some of us assume it's happening with other coaches and they're just not talking about it.

Top stuff by Torts. Sometimes he is wrong, and can be very wrong, but there are times that he is right and goes above and beyond. Inviting Guy Gaufreau to Flyers practice was a top quality move by John, but not a surprising move by him.

Tortorela is a good man? Ask Gaborik, Ciger and others who played for him. The guy is basically Babcock from Wish. And now he just buys some karma.

Torts seems like a good enough guy. I disagree with some things he has sounded off about, but that's going to happen. I don't agree with his attitude towards interviews (except the handful of times his reaction was what everyone would have), and I liked watching DiPietro get under his skin. You can disagree with different things about how a person does things and still think they're not bad. People tend to make everything so binary, though.
