That was painful to watch but thanks for doing it. It shows the quality that you're buying. Great shot btw... that bullet was clean in two pieces. Good stuff as always
Thanks Steel Punisher 69. These knives will handle the abuse for sure. As long as they provide them for testing, I will continue with the reviews. ( I do have to give them back afterwards )
Have seen a lot of pictures and a few videos of you hanging with the Microtech crew. But never have I seen anyone else do what you have too two of their knives.thanks for the time and effort.
I’m also impressed with the quality of the black coating finish used on the blade being so tough to stand up to what you put it through. I couldn’t detect, from just viewing the video on my phone anyway, any scuffing or surface scratches. I am planning to order the LUDT, but haven’t been able to decide on the blade finish. I really like the black as well as the bronze, but have been concerned that these coatings might likely not hold up well to actual use and might get worn off, show scuff marks or scratches easily. I think your video has helped to put my concerns at ease regarding that now. Thank you.
Thanks razorhaven66. To be honest, Over a period of time the black will show wear unless they do a dlc coating and the bronze will lighten up over time. The best blade finish that doesn’t show wear would be the stonewashed for sure. Hope that helps.
Thank you for your reply as that does help. Was hoping their standard black or bronze coating might hold up over a long period of time with normal type of everyday use, but the stonewashed may likely be the better way for me to go. I see where they have an “Apocalyptic” coating that appears to be similar to the stonewashed except looks more blotchy that might wear better as well, but not quite sure how good that finish would look with the knife or more precisely how well I would like it anyway. Will probably decide on the stonewashed.
razorhaven66 No Problem! I always try to answer every comment. Also, the apocalyptic finish is a great choice as it really hides marks as well. On another note, if you are worried about finish wear, the stone wash usually has a blasted clip which also hides wear very well. I know that black blades usually have a black clip. Black pocket clips show wear faster than anything else.
Good information to know and is really useful to me in helping to make my decision on which one to choose to best meet my long term use preferences and not just my look/color preference.
I’m getting my first microtech for Christmas. I’m torn between the ultratech and the LUDT. I’ve never owner an OTF, but I’ll let you know. Awesome tests! Enjoying the content! Merry Christmas!
Liked and subscribed mr sooch sent me. Good video & I’m sold. Microtech owner and hope to own that one before they’re gone. Not sure if I’ll have the disposable income with Christmas coming but who knows.. take care
UPS just delivered my LUDT today: Apocalyptic blade w/ purple chassis. I'm impressed with the fit and finish, this will get WAY more pocket time than my utx-85.
My son is about to graduate phase III of his AIT as a 12D. This is a great graduation knife and MOS specific! Will the coil spring in the action continue to deploy the blade if it encounters an obstruction or are those versions available?
I am planning to take advantage of this program. Question...what are your (or anyone else’s) opinion on the Plain vs Combo blades on the LUDT and the Ultra tanto? Thanks!
Whats a good usecase for the Microtech UTX 70 and ultratech? Just everyday use? I like the idea of cutting lashing on wire harness in tight spaces on airplanes but idk if an OTF is just silly. Lots of one handed needs is my thing.
Great knife! *Just don't pry anything with it* I broke the tip off of my all black m390 just trying to open my bedroom door. (Butter knives do it with ease mind you) and i find the grinds are inconsistent. I've had 1 at 7 thousands behind the edge, one at 5thousands, 2 at 10, and my most recent one is 15thousands behind the edge. Still one of my favorite knives, just wish they'd get that under control better.
X-RING, what is the birth date on that Microtech LUDT you did the torture test on? I just ordered the same exact knife tactical black, partial serrated from EKnives.com and also ordered the Microtech combat troodon otf dagger blade, tactical black, partial serrated from them. I'm excited and can't wait to get them.
Thanks Jim. Microtech went from Bohler Elmax to M390. However, since they make everything in house in the USA they wanted to source USA steel instead of European steel. They are now using Carpenter 204P almost exclusively at the moment. It has almost identical properties to M390.
Hey Franck, for lower profile and weight I would go LUDT. The Socom is my favorite but it does carry and feel much larger than the LUDT in the pocket and hands.
I love mine. I winced during the torture. I bent my pocket clip just enough that it does not stay in my pocket. What is the best way to bend it back without scratching?
Hello Tom, I hope you have been well. The best thing to do is try to get the screw removal tool and then remove and bend. Otherwise, call Microtech get an RA and they will fix it for you.
@@tom_olofsson not much to screw up.. They are way simpler than washer/bearing knives. Just a blade/handles/coil spring/button/spring/stop pin. Easy as hell to take apart. If you haven't gotten the tool let me know, I can link the exact ones
I am a dealer and always try to keep LUDTs and Socoms in stock. I am also out of them at the moment but inventory changes weekly. You can check at xringcustoms.com
You are absolutely correct badbilly 429. That is why I always recommend buying from an authorized Microtech dealer. The Chinese are getting good with their clones but they are using CHEAP materials.
Benchmade does make a great knife and the Axis lock is buttery smooth. However, the axis isn’t as strong as you think it is. The mechanism will collapse and fail at about 50ish ft. Lbs. 👍🏼
My $35 boker ak47 will do the same thing can't see it being worth more then $150 for blade steel the frame is aluminum same a boker just can't justify the crazy price
Basta con questi video fake si è visto che il meccanismo si era un po' rovinato, si fanno le stesse cose con un qualsiasi coltello di qualità con un buon acciaio
