Just to explain to people why the Tungsten Carbide breaker works better than metal, I'll tell people quickly in case they were wondering. It's because Tungsten Carbide has a higher HRC than any other metal, we are talking around 90 HRC. So it's verry hard and will not rebound off of glass like alum or steel frames knives are made out of. So it doesn't just force it's way through the glass with brute force or "Heavyness" like steel has to. Because glass is actually harder than most steels, but the Tungsten Carbide has such a high HRC that it actually cracks the glass upon impact due to its super high HRC level.
@ItalianBrownsFAN tungsten carbide is actually a composite material and has more in common with chemistry at the atomic level than the generic term "metal", which is most often referring to some type of alloy.
This video convinced me to get a Microtech. The prices on Microtech OTF knives scared me off; that’s until you released all these Microtech torture tests. I’d like to see annual videos, Microtech knives after each year of hard use. Including the use of Microtech’s lifetime warranty, because eventually everything Breaks.
We can carry any style of a blade in India ... you can design a blade that shoots out of your dick when you get a boner and it will not be illegal here. It is illegal in India to carry a knife (blade) beyond 9 inches long and 2 inches wide, as it comes under the ambit of the definition of “prohibited arms” under The Indian Arms Act 1959. Carrying the kind of knife which is below 9 inches in length and 2 inches in width is thus allowed. So size does matter after all who knew!? So although we can carry this OTF style blade I have zero ideas as to why you would want to. What purpose or functionality does it display? I only see a gimmick with a weak/short blade that will have a short novelty value of the sound you hear sccccccccccccccchick when it is deployed. It is not a survival knife/bushcraft/combat/dive/SRK ... what does it do effectively other than do the sccccccccccccccchick sound reasonably well? I am confused!
This video just convinced me to buy my 4th Combat Troodon. One is a Marfione Custom Blued Damascus blade and the other 3 are regular D/E M390 blades. Love this knife!! Great to see it take a beating!!
I actually just got one of these with the black blade and black hardware (handle, slide button, glass breaker, etc.). Love this knife! Good to see it is as tough as nails! Nice review!
Wow! Now that was a torture test! I know these are painful to watch and more painful for you to do but these test show what you get for your money. Cutting that water bottle that cleanly was impressive. Awesome video as always
Haha when I saw you about to hammer the TC window breaker, I thought yup, that hammers about to break, 2 seconds later pop goes the hammer. Great video btw, and you got a perfect cut on that water bottle.
Get used to seeing these eventually. It still hurts a little. I will say that your videos have been very effective. As of today I am a first time owner of a microtech Ultratech. I can also see one of these in the future because I do like a bigger knife. Thanks Ray
I love Microtech. I own five of them. I’ve got a standard size signature series Troodon with a Damascus D/E blade with blue hardware and it’s one of my prized possessions.
Awesome video! I've carried my 2015 single edge black Combat Troodon for going on three years now (also an Elmax blade). Nice to know what it can withstand if the need should arise. I carry it for emergency purposes exclusively and carry another cheaper auto for EDC tasks (sometimes a Lightning, more often these days a side-opener as it can be opened discretely around sheeple).
Seriously great video. Having my own channel I grow tired of people viewing not to enjoy but to find cracks/things to nitpick about so I guess they feel superior. So when you were saying "OK I'm wearing kevlar gloves" "OK let me show you why this glass breaker works.".. I feel your pain.
Great torture test. Really wish these knives would come to South Africa as we don’t have laws on knives like some US states. Pricey I’m sure but you pay for quality.
Lifestyles of the Locked & Loaded Thank you Hank and thanks for having me on the podcast with Todd. I had a great time. Looking forward to the next one.
The microtech bug bit hard this past summer so I sold all my frame locks months ago and started buying up microtech OTFs. Got a sweet little collection... love my copper ultratech if you see one grab it they getting hard to find :)
Mr. Combat Troodon: "Mr. X-Ring's going to be mean to me!" Mr. X-Ring: "it's ok Mr. Combat Troodon, we're just going to do a little test" (lights him on fire) Mr. Combat Troodon: "OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO" LOL
Just got my first microtrech the ultratech UMS edition guess I know what my next is now killer testing. I'm about a hour away would love to visit when you're open again 🇺🇲👊
Next time you do a torture test on a Microtech please try to use it against a kevlar glove 🤔 Just an idea. Besides that, as always, awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to do it even though i know you enjoyed it a lot .
Is that thing made of adamantium???? I'm frankly amazed that this knife could take that kind of beating with basically no damage. (or any knife for that matter) Great test, thumbs up to you Sir!
Good Lord, so much for OTF's having a weak lock. Nailing through that board was impressive. BTW did you develop significant blade play after this test?
Man, I can’t believe what I just saw...Bravo, Sir. I figured these were going to be crazy expensive so I checked out Knife Center. They are basically $400-$600 depending on the individual knife, so that is not bad at all. Unfortunately, they can’t ship one to me, lol, even though they are legal in my state.
Everyone should test their rifle scopes like this. Then we would know what is the best. No other scope tests would ever be done once the top one was found. I'm out!
Love your videos brother, I see you have the full serrated blade with full plain blade dagger on your CT. Do you prefer that configuration? About to buy one of those things! Pretty tough!
I got a blue combat I just expected it to come sharper little scratch on the middle in the front of the blade but besides that great knife I also had received it from blade hq
OK but how much blade play was there at the begining and how much was there after all that abuse? The fact that it still held a workable edge is nice, but knives can be resharpened easily. That cannot be said for fixing any wiggle in the lock if it develops after heavy use.
You should give one the ultimate test. Send it to me by US Postal Service. Only a really tough knife can withstand the type of torture the Post Office can dish out. I, of course, will do a video on how well it works after they get through with it... if it survives. 😂
I’m on the fence with buying an Ultratech. Do you think the Ultratech is every bit as tough as the Troodon? I mean do you think the Ultratech would survive the same test as the Troodon?
Hey Mij, great question. However, I need to clarify something. The Troodon and the Combat Troodon are two different knives. Of the three, it has been my experience that the Combat Troodon will go the longest without cleaning with Rem Oil through daily use. I think it is just because of the stronger spring. Then it would be the Ultratech and then the Troodon. I have a friend Rick who did a really good torture test on his channel. Is your 6 covered. Check it out! I even shot the blade with a .40cal and split the bullet.
Great review. Never seen anyone nail test a frame or liner lock probably for good reason. Not that one should ever do that to a non fixed blade anyway. I just purchased the Dirac Delta. These test give me a lot of faith that it will perform well. Thanks
PowerMadHeadBanger I will have to get to you that one. MT uses different angles based on model and blade profile. I will find out the answer tomorrow on the CT with the D/E blade. I cannot comment on resharpening as MT states you should send it in for that.
goodness gracious great balls of good ol’ fashioned made in the U. S. M’er F’ing A fire... them be sum good ol’ knives! Boy we all need to get ourselves some Microtechs. All kidding aside, thank you for showing me how to spend my hard earned money well good sir, I salute you!
