Introduction to the composer: Tōru Takemitsu (武満徹) (1930-1996) was a Japanese composer, who combined the idioms of the Western classical music with Eastern aesthetics and philosophy. His works stretch over many styles, from early electronic works filled with randomness, to more harmonious works from later periods. Introduction to the work: This is one of Takemitsu’s works for large orchestra, commissioned by the NHK, and dedicated to Toshiro Mayuzumi. In my opinion, the mood is like a meditation or isolation.
Hi. Thanks for posting the score. I have been looking for it everywhere and it is not available for purchase online (that I can find). I wish it was bigger so I could see the notes more clearly. Where did you find the sheet music?
It was published in a 1959 edition of 日本の作曲 (Masterpieces of contemporary Japanese music) by the Japanese publisher Ongaku-no-tomo-sha. It has around 8 contemporary pieces by different Japanese composers, and this was part of it. P.S. Also sorry for the scan quality - screenshot of a scan of a small score (it was like 2/3 the size of an A4 sheet) doesn't always have the highest quality.
