We’ve had Thatcherism since 1979 which serves the interests of the wealthy. The problem with Thatcherism is that you eventually run out of assets like Thames Water to sell to investors so that they can rip off British consumers. 1. Reduce inequality by taxing the asset wealth of the rich. 2. Stop selling British assets and British companies to foreign control.
No we haven't. We ve had Blairism since 97. Cameron worshipped Blair and kicked out the actual conservatives MPs long ago, moving the party to left. Since then it's been giant tax and spend, woke gender nonsense and open borders. Running out of other peoples a money? That's Labours entire philosophy.
I feel sad 😢 I thought The Conservative Party was for those who were from a poor background who wanted to join the upper classes. It's now a ragbag tabloid outlet.
Kemi knifed Brexit in 1 - Vote of No Confidence against Boris (who is still 2nd most beloved by #Brexiteers after Nice Nigel) 2 - She backed disgraceful showtrail of Boris 3 - Voted against to block Brexit Truss 4 PM 4 - Backed Decision to rob members of their right to pick next Boss after Truss 5 - Kemi selected Sunak as PM without election. 6 - Kemi was castigated by Brexit Bull Dog Sir Bill Cash in commons for betraying Brexit
@@Dude-etiquette I find it very difficult to believe how The Tories ended up this way. As a lad from a privatised council estate I thought it was a party for those who wanted to elevate themselves in life. I was even a member myself once and it devastates me to see what they've become. The damage they've inflicted in the last few years mainly lockdown was the worst they did.
I think they should appoint a Savoy cabbage as next Tory leader. Shadow cabinet can be made up of kohl rabi, turnips and whatever vegetable comes to mind to reflect their 14 years in power.
Reminds me of the Spitting Image sketch when Thatcher is with the cabinet ordering dinner , she tells the waiter that she’ll have the Beef , “ and what about the vegetables ?“ asks the waiter, “ they’ll have the same as me” answers Thatcher.
Kemi brutally honests....seriously, she is deluded...she spent her time cherry picking economic data and talking up her trade deals that are not worth the paper they are written on.
@@johngrundy9849 Badenoch is a morally vacuous liar!! If thats 'moving in' having her as their leader they will be in the wilderness for another electorial cycle at least!! So yes do indeed make her the Tory leader!!
And her so called trade deals aren't even trade deals. It's just an understanding between the UK and some US states to look at certain things favourably. Of course single states in the US cannot agree to a trade deal, only the US as a whole. Badenock doesn't have the mental capacity needed to lead a party. Then again neither did Boris Johnson...
Malcolm Rifkind the guy who in that sting a while ago said he didn't have a job and his rate for a mornings work was 13k, whilst he was an mp and head of a committee. Why does he still have a voice he's a self serving nobody.
This is a smoke screen. The election wasn't lost because of personalities, or tactical errors made by Sunak. The 14 years of incompetence, scandal and cruel policies made them an unelectable shower. All these ex Ministers crawling out from behind the sofa should square up and apologise their role in the demise of their own time in power.
Exactly. The moment Labour pulled themselves together and started to look like they could run a serious government, it was pretty much over for the Tories. Odds are they would’ve lost this election regardless of what happened, though probably not as badly as they have. By limping around for so long under Johnson, then allowing Truss to wreck the house before Sunak came in and stumbling through the last 18 months while his party ate each other alive was just the icing on the cake. It’s ironic to me that Kemi and Suella are happy to blame Rishi when they made his life far harder than they needed to, and essentially tarnished the reputation of this party far more than he did.
13:42 Sir Malcolm. Thatcherism wouldn’t work nowadays as you haven’t got much of Britain to sell off anymore has you guys turned Great Britain into a car boot sale and there is nothing left to sell.
@@ChrisWalker-fq7kf she didn't mention herself in things to blame. She's the epitome of Tories: everyone else is to blame. The sign of a loud mouthed but truly weak person.
He was a corrupt banker.Made his money out of the financial crisis whilst working for Goldman Sachs. Happy bro make his wife a Non dom although she resided in No.10
Oh, I had thought that Badenock was intelligent but if she thinks that Rishi Sunak was responsible for the Tory election disaster, she has really lost the plot.
@@mikelm222 So, what did? She's made it clear time and time again that she isn't and that she's also utterly out of touch with the public. Just like the Conservative Party in general.
She didn't say he was solely responsible for the disaster. But he did make it a lot worse. They probably wouldn't have lost quite so many seats if he'd handled it better.
Malcolm Rifkind compares Truss,Johnson and Corbyn and says they are similar,Corbyn has been an excellent member of parliament so much so he was re-elected as an independent, the other two failed their constituents and lied, one resigned rather than fight again ,the other lost a huge majority
@@nicks4934 I wouldnt go that far, but I certainly think it'll take them 15 years to get back. Currently theyre not popular, but neither will Labour be after two terms. These things are cyclic.
@@tommymorrison6478 They need to come to terms with the reasons for the defeat instead of being in denial. A lurch to the right wont help them. They tried that with William Hague,IDS and Michael Howard. You only win from the Centre. Badenoch and Braverman arent the answer, theyre the problem.
We DO have a Constitution. It's just that ours isn't contained within a single document. If we didn't have a Constitution, we could never have Constitutional crises and we've had several of those!
Kemi Badenoch is not brutally 'honest' not sure she has ever told the truth in a select committee, and to talk about her party not understanding their defeat and suggesting Penny Mordaunt losing her seat was Sunaks fault is NOT UNDERSTANDING their deafeat. It was the electorate showing their disgust, not Sunak!
We saw the same thing with Truss vs Sunak. The Tory party membership will ALWAYS choose to most deluded and inappropriate option who tells them everything they want to hear. If that membership retains final say of the new Leader - the Tory party will never regain Power. ... Personally i am fine with this.
This was lost the day voted for Brexit. It wasn't wanted by most Con MPs. A BBC survey showed that 80% of MPs didn't want Brexit, put viewed a vote as democratic. It was an argument based on lies with more definitions of Brexit, than the LGBTQ community have pronouns. But finally the public never forgave the Con membership for inficting Johnson and Truss on us.
The Conservatives are currently in the dock at the court of public opinion, and a good lawyer would probably advise them just to keep quiet at the moment.
Kemi is the only leader in the house she is owning hte space marking her territory and this is the time to do it, it needs a clear out ofhte toxic weight to move on and she is the only one mature enough and brave enough to stand agaisnt the real threats to society ,
Perhaps Mr Crick should save his mirth for when the new government starts racking up successes. Oh, isn’t it all jolly! Aren’t the commentariat having such fun?! The security, safety and success of our nation is far too important to be discussed with such levity.
@@mobsiesixsixsix9785 That's silly. Just because you generally disagree with someone doesn't mean you have to disagree with everything they say always.
To be fair Kemi said “bordering on unconstitutional”. What she means is, in this day and age, it is beyond ridiculous for a Prime Minister, especially an unelected one, to call a General Election 7 months before you need to, one you are almost certain to lose badly, without consulting the Cabinet.
Sunak called the election as requested by Netanyahu so the news cycle took the focus off Israel and Gaza. Why did he go ahead with this request ???? Because he wants a job with a Jewish hedge fund in New York.
It's not unconstitutional at all to do what Rishi Sunak did, in bringing forward the general election. Neither is it "bordering on unconstitutional" or anywhere near it. To say so is a straight out lie.
@@julianshepherd2038 Where is the lie? She is talking in a Shadow Cabinet meeting, she is not making an address to the nation. The people in the meeting know the point she is making because 99% of them were as outraged as she is by Sunak calling an early election, he was almost certainly going to lose, without consulting them first.
Nick Clegg got a law brought in to stop the prime minister calling an election with a vote in Parliament, but the Remainers abused that law to stop Boris Johnson from calling a general election when he had no majority, because Remainers were afraid of the electorate and wanted to re-run the referendum.
Rishi Sunak is a thoroughly decent man. He took on the leadership in a situation that was irrecoverable, created by his predecessors. He doesn’t deserve to be treated like this.
The children are playing up! The nanny is distraught but mater & pater are off somewhere enjoying themselves. Long may it continue as there is currently no cohesive force holding the Conservative Party together. Excellent situation
William Shakespeare would have written an epic production regarding the infighting amongst the Tories. I can almost see Rishi now, covered in blood surrounded by contenders saying " you to................"
Courtesy and decency in politics is an oxymoron. At question time ,politics live they behave like badly behaved adolescents worse like badly raised adolescents Basic politeness and humility have gone ,so has magnanimity in defeat.Blame culture rules.
Hardline austerity from 2010 onwards disenfranchised so many people, a great deal of whom found solace in the culture wars and brexit which the tories themselves encouraged. The tory obsession with winning elections has led to a fractured society and ultimately fractured the tory party itself.
It's not complicated. Badenoch, Sunak, Braverman and Patel have spent the last few years trying to appeal to the racist white Tory voter who resents having non-white neighbours, whilst simultaneously expecting them not to harbour the same feelings toward having a non-white government.
Badenoch is more than a little responsible and should read up on history, specifically the Sonderfahndungsliste. She is very likely to be at the top of Farages' Sonderfahndungsliste.
Amazing (not) that now the teacher has left the classroom, the personalities of the former party members, which have always been there remember, are running free for all to endure. And they are not pleasant.
Malcolm, too late. You cannot win back trust in a divorce. Leave it two generations, something right-wing will form, but this is the equivalent of the timing in WEU, you need two generations to clear the insanity.
Don't understand why anyone wants to be a Tory leader? Being a leader of the opposition is the not most appetizing job, especially if the Tories might be in opposition for two terms.
The idea that the collapse pf the Tories was down to Sunak leaving the D Day event and calling an early election, shows how departed BadEnoch is from reality.
The Tories still don't get it! This aggressive pantomime 'soap opera' drama is one of the reasons they lost! People are sick of this childish infighting; the Tories need to sit down calmly and discuss their way forward before they stand a chance of winning back any voters.
Common sense sir would have seen Sunak follow the party manifesto and the Brexit vote and secured our borders and reduced legal immigration. That is why you lost my vote and the people’s vote. It’s astonishing how many Tory politicians don’t understand this simple fact. Reform! 🇬🇧
This always makes me smile - watching the Tories turn on each other, always trying to pin the blame on their "colleagues". It's as predictable as it's pathetic
The biggest decision The Conservative and Unionist Party have to make is to appoint the right person to succeed Rishi as the Leader of the opposition and I hope it is Caroline Nokes who is one of the few MP's who has the ability to both unite and strengthen the party.
Ahh thank God, way too many sensible comments above made me wonder if I was really on RU-vid but there’s the bonkers conspiracy theory about acronyms the writer doesn’t understand that I come to the RU-vid comments section to enjoy
This is no time for kind words and back slapping, it needs a frank and brutal assessment, with a good dose of blame and finger pointing. A future conservative party must never again play fast and loose with politics. No more ship of fools, intelligence, integrity and a sense of duty is the way forward.
Crick is right, Badenoch is fundamentally too abbrassive for success. She's also just a bit absurd and hapless when under pressure. Guess the Tory membership will ultimately do their thing.
Cleverly showed stupidity and hypocrocy by calling for unity now. It is the high time tory does serious soul searching and debating and finds right direction. It has been chasing its own tail for too long.
bad enoch is right on many points but seems to forget her disgusting hate rants and culture war nonsense which also contributed to the tories wipe out but that,s good because the crazy will go on and the party will continue to lose.
The whole problem started in 1979 with thatcher starting by wasting our north sea oil and gas revenues" and then selling off our housing stocks"then our public assets and 2016 Cameron Brexit mad decision. And 2010 till today Cameron may Johnson truss mini disaster" and sunak all total useless" it's going to be a hard slog for labour to try and sort this mess up.
They appointed a leader in house without even taking it to the grassroots of the membership? what kind of result did the party expect with a leader who wasn't even wanted by the masses on a mandate from a previous leader who was actually elected? hope they are out of power for a long long time couldn't happen to a nicer bunch
we dont have a constitution in this country, she must think she is in the states - or maybe she wants to emigrate. even if we did, I don't imagine it would impinge on internal tory feuds.
