Only goes to show that tastes differ. A shame the composer didn't like his work, but he can rest assured that fans of the game liked the results and salute his skill regardless.
this music is so beautiful and peaceful at the same time that there are no words to describe it. and the game itself is epic too. i'm still playing it (over 10 years)
and the fact that i'm replying to my 6yo comment while still listening to this proves how enchanting this music is! Jeremy Soule is a freaking GENIUS !!!
@PriestJesus666 Still playing it too. I dare say this is the most iconic track of the game after Taros 3 (which was used to great effect in the credits)
The problem was because it used decent 3d models which most computers couldn't handle when it came to massive armies. Also, when it was launched it was horribly inbalanced. It wasn't until patches down the road that it got decently balanced. They made enough to make an expansion, but no one bought the expansion (which was awesome and had most of the problems fixed)
@Synapse27 i still play here too, too bad there's no way to play online i am as good as hell. i go againt 7 bots and win. this reminds me of my childhood tears drop from my eyes when i listen to this song. Thank you very much for uploading!
I'm still playing this game today. Excellent game plus the music is fits perfectly with it. No idea why it didn't do so well. But didn't some of the people from Cavedog come back later and make Supreme Commander? I heard it was 1 person but I doubt it :/
@Synapse27 I think Kingdoms is a great game. Its simple , no upgrades , no fancy spells, no health points or mana points only unit making and battles. If only the graphics were better... And the unit level system is a great idea. (gold parts appear on units). I'm sad that cavedog went bankrupt.
This is just not true!!! Units have mana points! Harpies and several others! Also dragons and mage archers have different abilities to choose from as they level up.
Does it really matters if it was 3 instruments, or 4, or 2? The awesomeness of a melody is the quality of its music and not the quantity of its instruments. You have heard of solos, haven't you?
I agree, but it's the simple fact of the way the market works, it makes no sense to develop games for small target audiences when you could just as well make them for a bigger audience and get so much more for your investment. (SupCom2 aimed at consoles for instance) Safe, marketable and preferably with name-value, otherwise you won't get a producer to gamble their money and pay the developers wages throughout the making of the game. Back when TA & TA:K was made, it was a simpler time...
@333madness Can't verify any of it. Cavedog barely squeezed out the Iron Plague Expansion before going bankrupt, I don't think they even had the time to consider a sequel, nor would they when Kingdoms didn't sell 'too' well. As for being discouraged by Warcraft, I find that unlikely as they are so different as games, but Warcraft DID sell a lot more than Kingdoms did and might as such have contributed to Cavedogs fall... perhaps.
I was quoting what Jeremy said on his Facebook. I wouldn't have listened to this otherwise. I'm not saying one or two instruments is bad. But from Jeremy's point of view, it was hard to compose and in turn was hard to impress.
Effort deserves a reward, so I'll give you a hint: My keywords with google were: total annihilation kingdoms soundtrack The page I downloaded from is one of the results on the first page. Good hunting!
Then my google-fu is better than your google-fu. :P Seriously though, it is out there, I found it in less than a minute just now. I'm not going to help people who wont help themselves.
The game industry is littered with people moving around, I know for sure that Chris Taylor was involved with TA, TAK and SupCom. Most others haven't gotten famous in the same way and take a little more research.
Sometimes the obvious search strings don't return a hit. If it was so easy to find, I wouldn't have waited for to post on your video, then way for a reply. Some youtubers take like a month to reply, I knew that before I took my chances. Some youtubers are also elitist dicks, I also knew that when judging the odds.
Sad is the history of this game franchise. Only 3 instruments, I do so believe, and I'll quote Mr. Soule on this: "It sounds like s--t." Why? Because he wasn't in control of the direction of the music. He merely complied to the man in charge. 3 Instruments, same tempo. Resulting in...this. :) We love you Jeremy, sorry the Man is a dick.
I hate to sound mean and the following should be taken in the most informative way possible... Why should I upload it when it is still available online, through a direct in-browser download no-less. Practice your google-fu and feel like a boss when you find it. When I can no longer find it online anywhere I might upload it.
maybe its a good complement to the game but on its own its snooze inducing and the midi library sounds really cheesy. it doesn't even sound like jeremy soule.
@@thenucas I think it sounds a lot better than the usual Jeremy Soule, who mainly produces boring orchestral generic stuff with an occasional spark of brilliance like Easthaven in Peace.
