Calling my complete beginner dancers! I am so excited to bring you this beginner contemporary dance routine for all of my new dancers to follow along and learn at home. This contemporary choreography is full of basic dance moves, perfect for those of you self-taught dancers and dancers who are starting late (even though there is no such thing as starting too late... hehe). Follow along dance classes are a great way to stay in shape, work on dance technique, and expand your artistry.
Dance tutorial starts at 0:40 and the full dance is shown at 8:16

Hey you, new dancer -- if you're frustrated because this was still hard for you even at 'total beginner', please don't give up! What's easy for some is hard for others. For example, the music in the song she used is really flow-y. It didn't give me a very clear beat to hold on to, so I found it hard to stay with her timing. I got frustrated at first. But I found a different song that I play while Auti is on mute, slowed down the speed, and practice the hard bits until they feel easier for this truly total beginner. We're doing this for fun, so don't pressure yourself too much :). We got this

This is my first contemporary dance ever and I LOVE IT! It's sooo simple. Dancers of any skill level and background can do it (little to no flexibility requires). I usually do hip hop so I felt very graceful doing this dance. It's pretty easy to memorize (I memorized it in less than an hour and I have a pretty hard time remembering choreo so this was great).

As a young teen, I did "modern" dance, which is now called Contemporary Dance. Now as a senior citizen... I am trying again. I appreciate the slow, cautious movements! My knees don't bend as they used to, so it will take some time. However, I REALLY want to tell you that I appreciate these videos so much!

I tried to find some natural movements today to start coaxing my 53-year-old body into some free flowing movement. Then I found this and was so impressed with the simple but interesting vocabulary of movements you showed. Going to try them out tomorrow. the fact that i learnt this so fast makes me so proud of myself, i kinda gave up on contemporary because i wanted to focus on my Latin dance competitions but this choreo helped me express my feelings and how i truly Miss contemporary so i guess i Will be returning back to it

answering you: no! i've heard age is only important if you want to do ballet, and professionally. most contemporary dancers start on their twenties actually, so you're early hehe. i've felt insecure about that before, if you want more reassurance you can look into reddit, thats where i managed to calm myself

@@user-bs5kx8xq7t ummm i dont think so? i was very stiff when i wanted to start. i did and do a lot of stretches and yoga for that. what really matters is if you actually like it. i love this style and it suits me, even when i was more stiff i managed to look good when i tried to freestyle.

GUESS WHAT YALL I KNOW NONE OF YOU CARE BUT I FINALLY AM ABLE TO DO CONTEMPERARY MODERN DANCE CLASSES AT MY STUDIO I JUST GOT THE NEWS TODAY! Because at my studio only “advanced dancers” can do contemporary/ modern dancing guess I’m under that category now! Contemporary/ modern has always been my favorite type of dance and I finally get to do it it’s always been my dream I’m so happy!

Edit 1 of many?- 7/14/23- I learned the dance yesterday and had fun! Today I got up and wondered if I could remember it all, I ended up switching some parts around by mistake but still felt confident doing it. I think thats what matters, if someone was watching they wouldn't have realized I messed up because I still did great! I'm gonna keep going everyday and every few will come back to update on my progress

I have a hard time doing things that don't come naturally to me and have a tendency to give up/get frustrated easily. It's especially hard for me to do artistic things. I really want to commit to learning this dance and doing my best at it. A little self-challenge

I always wanted to be a dancer but being new Zealand and just not having that opportunity made me so sad but now I’m 14 and I’m self teaching myself I’ve come a long way. I'm a 70 year old retired white unwoke male Trump supporter who at a very old age just discovered the blast it is to modern dance. My pronouns are dude, duderino, and his dudeness. I liked your dance moves, and you gave me some ideas to integrate some of this in my video which I am currently making to a Richard Marx song. Most of my friends have had their knees replaced but so far, my knees seem to like all the bending. Never felt better in fact. Thank you and MAGA from Illinois.
