Emperor Haile Selassie gave his palace to the people for free higher education including boarding. The name was HAILE SELASSIE UNIVERSITY until 1974 revolution (the beginning of our downfall). I attended the curent AAU but still was the best experience! They haven't showed you the lecture halls, the museum etc & Lectures are in English!
Hi Damaris, thanks so much for your videos and truly appreciated. Coming to your question, Addis Ababa University is the best and #1 University in Ethiopia and among the first 10 best universities in Africa. I studied my first degree there and in terms of academic reputation/ teaching quality and providing students with best lectures and tutors, it's the best. Besides, there are students from across the world (5%) and language wouldn't be an issue. Many thanks and Enjoy your stay.
Your content is at a whole other level girl. This was informative. Thanks for bringing us along. There University campuses are impressed More Blessings Queen Desta
I was a former student of 6 kilo(25-yrs-ago). Local language was not a requirement unless you wanted to Major in one. There was no school of journalism when I was a student so I don't have anything to say about that department. I know so many journalists who did not study journalism to become journalists. Some ended up in prison for political reasons. What is your long term objective? How long are you planning to stay in Ethiopia? you've to answer those questions first before you apply. Yes, if you want to study in Ethiopia, get a student visa. Learn video editing, website design, coding, UI/UX design. You can work in any country if you're trained in those fields. If you've any certificate from Kenya, just apply for work in Addis. If you want to change your career path do some thorough research. As far as the ranking of AAU. Did that guy say sixth? Is it in terms of size or quality of education? Probably by size.
The entrance is right up my alley 😮😮😍😍😍 I thought you were making your way into a botanical garden❤❤Why can't more universities do this? I've walked on some campus at noon & almost died from heatstroke psshshh 😖
It’s better for you to go private school we call it college or university they charge you some money not to much also I think they will give you requirement documents to you to get student visa, Addis Ababa university is government university it’s not easy for you to enroll you
Since you have IT degree why don’t you apply if you can teach in some private or public schools. Find out if that’ll give you a longer visa to stay and work. At the same time you can still do RU-vid. Good luck 🍀🙏🏼☮️🧚🏻♀️💚🌼
Oh, If it is succeed, you are so lucky girl. I filled to study in Adise ababa university, but I couldn’t get due to students allocation system then I went to China to study engineering. ✌️🎆
U are not suposse to learn or speak Amharic for studying in Ethiopia unless if are planning to learn institution of Amharic language department I am the former graduate student I used to have many international friends.
Okay, u completely surprised me with this vid. Not what we usually get from u. AAU is a renowed institution but not its journalism dept. Since 1991 Eth has been attacking journalists as professionals and journalism as a discipline. I suggest u spend ur 1st yr here in Addis playing around with ur surrounding , getting used to amharic, creating contents, etc n then u might re-plan this study. But if u must study now, remember that the medium of instruction in Ethiopian education system is English. So language wont hold u back.
i studied there at (AAU) not in the main campus tho I cant compare it with other african countries because i have no idea about univercities in other countries But if we are talking about ethiopia its the best possible option there are some very nice private universities tho but they are a bit pricey I highly recommened you if you are serious about studying here
Hope you get admitted to the university. Education is not free here in Ethiopia, but we are not expected to pay a dime while studying, we will pay later on after graduation and securing a job (willingly pay 😄😄). We can choose whatever we want to study as long as we meet the entry requirements (mainly freshman common course grades and high-school examination score). Luckily I joined my choice of University (ASTU) and department in 2011. I graduated in 2015 and I went to pay in 2017. It was about 25,000 br around (500$) as per the current exchange rate.
Tuition is FREE including boarding!! I believe they recently started charging small fees which is almost nothing! When I tell folks in the the US about it no one believes me! All the brain drain especially Medical Doctors now working in high demand in the US got free education!!!
Hello Desta I'm one of ur fans currently studying in AAIT (Addis Ababa Institute of Technology ) which is one of the branch's of AAU I wanted to comment on your question about what to study in AAU. May suggestion for you would be that for you to study psychology it is 😘 I'm saying this because during our freshman year they made us take this course and other social science course but psychology was 😘 and the instructor’s made it so tasteful as they know what they are giving and how to give it. and with regard to quality lets jest say calming kilimanjaro is easer than gating" A+" also you have to survive because gating "F" is easy. ❤you
It’s got so old and seem beaten up. I hope the government will renovate one of Africa’s oldest and great university. It looks really sad;( 🙏🏼☮️💚🌼❤️🧚🏻♀️
Ain't it funny that you could easily settle other East African countries such as Uganda and Tanzania without any huddles to jump than Ethiopia the seat of African Union?! What's going on in Africa and how we treat other nationalities is ludicrous!! It's easier for a Mzungu to settle in Africa than it is for an African!! 🤯😳😱 Africans are creating virtual prisons or silos out of European imposed borders!!! Wake up Africa!! I am glad Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have made some progress on this issue but many countries are still imposing the colonial borders and policies!! So sad!!
I think Mekrere university of Uganda and Ibadan university of Nigeria or South African universities are good for journalism than Addis Ababa university. Language and creative writing is critical for journalist. If I am not mistaken the student who was walking with you was taking about the professors teaching in English and Amharic. That would not be a good start for you to excel in journalism.
@@doreenonekalit9888 if you want to study journalism. I think it is obvious to study in a language where you feel comfortable. Addis Ababa university used to give lectures in English except Amharic majors. Now you can see where it stands and a foreign born girl with no clue of Amharic recommending to enroll in Addis Ababa university is not appropriate. I am not comparing but suggesting to her to be practical.
As an Ethiopian, it makes me sad to say that Ethiopia is not a good choice if you wanna study abroad. You'll make more out of your money if you study somewhere else.
