T2 already is on UHD Blu-ray. And seeing how James Cameron always insists on overseeing the making of a new transfer, it will probably never happen or look just as bad as the T2 4K.

@@nasirsaleem4016 It certainly looks fine on its own, but when you know what it used to look like, it becomes understandable why the 4K transfer is so hated. The overused DNR washes away all the grain, the lighting has been artificially changed in some shots. Everything is overly green now to such a degree that you can’t watch the Extended Cut seamlessly anymore. It’s an inferior product in every single way except for resolution.

I know it's possible for them to do a UHD 4K release. There is already a 4K stream of it to rent or buy on Amazon Prime.

@@pholly Did you even read what I wrote? I didn't say that I choose Amazon. I was saying that a 4K UHD Disc is possible because there is already a 4K stream out there (found on Amazon, VUDU, exc.......)

Saw the original at least five or six time from its release until the remake hit. My best friend never actually saw the original somehow, and we ended up going to see the remake (it's mostly bad, so you aren't missing anything), then after that, I had him watch the original. He thought the remake was much better. Ugh...

The remake was in and of itself a decent movie, it just shouldn't be called total recall. It was a poor remake barely following the source material.

I like the remake. They had to make it “realistic” by eliminating Mars, which is about the most unPKD thing you could do. Then again, Electric Dreams went all woke.

With respect to your comment on the placement of discs within the case...I always want the 4k movie disc on the inside back panel; and I never, ever put that disc on a hinged panel.

Pick it up for $7.50 at Best Buy! Despite of the flaws on the color grading and macroblocking issues, I would say it's still stunning otherwise for 4K video transfer and audio quality is excellent! Plus, some new and old features included with a Digital Code. But, I would say the 2012 Blu-ray release that I owned was incredible and still better for it's time and the Special Edition DVD was great too.

Jeff mate, as soon as you post a video like this.. I can't wait to see it. Great reviews of these 4K discs. I always wonder how deep the features on the score go... any chance you can give an idea of depth , or at least duration of some of these special features, eg: "2 - 3 minute snap-shot with an interview with the composer", or mixer, with studio shots.. or "deep feature 8+ mins with great interviews with a variety of people involved in the score and mix." That sort of thing... Quality jumper ;)

I've heard bad things about the compression. I've heard that certain shots break apart and become pixelated. But I don't care. For the money, this sci-fi action masterpiece is totally worth it

You wouldn't happen to have a dog or cat with white hair would you? Thanks for bringing this disc to my attention too (along with Blade). Already have each of those on DVD, but never bothered to buy them again on Blu-ray. Will likely be getting both of those now though on UHD. Edit: Screw it. Amazon finally has the LOTR trilogy at MSRP and not the price-gouged double rate, so I finally bought that (again) along with Total Recall. Cheers!

Nice, im looking forward to getting this, the DVD was one of the first movies i ever purchased, its pretty horrible watching that now and there’s a glitch in the Dolby audio track when the ship is landing on Mars (just after the “get your ass to mars” bit) audio distorts quite badly just in that little scene

I think this was Arnie's best movie. A christmas present from my son. I'm in the UK and selected United States on the front menu and up pops a 'Lionsgate' animation... I suspect the 'Corollco changed Hollywood' documentary tells the story about the link from Corollco, StudioCANAL and Lionsgate.... The colours are fantastic and I'm pretty sure my neighbour appreciated the audio track. I have this on VHS, DVD, Bluray and now on 4k. The industry doesn't help to push 4K when there's a bluray (i already have) in the box. Most of my 4k come with a bluray i don't need. You didn't stick a VHS tape in my DVD release box back in 1990's.......

I found the opposite on the audio track. The bass was slightly lacking below 50 hertz. The dialogue was actually very clear front and center though.

Wondering what you know about the oily residue found on many of the black 4k blu-ray cases. I have noticed this on some of my cases and just noticed it on the case you were showing at 7:14; looks like spots of the residue there. If it is on the data side of the disc and it is bad enough I notice it can transfer to the disc. There is some mention of this in forums but was wondering if you could provide any insight?

Just a general question here, why do all the 4k movies come with a blu-ray copy and all blu-ray copies come with DVDs? If you're buying a certain version of the movie, wouldn't you just want to use that disc? Does anyone use both?

On a lot of releases, the regular Blu-ray holds more content like special features alongside the movie, whereas the 4K disc most often only has the film on it. That’s probably why.

Why do some 4Ks still come with HDX Digital codes when a UHD is available? It’s not entirely uncommon and it’s very frustrating. If I’m paying for a 4K movie and they’re giving me a digital, why not consistently give 4K digitals? I checked and Total Recall on Vudu DOES offer UHD, but mine redeemed in HDX.

My only problem with this disc is the macroblocking in the red Mars shots. Might just be an inherent limitation of the format though. It’s 4:2:0 and red in particular struggles with that chroma subsampling.

The 2010 blu ray looks like a tv show/commercial because they made everything too bright. The 2012 blu ray has the colors a bit washed up from trying to correct the brightness level, but an improvement. This new transfer seems to have finally gotten it right.

There have been reports of problems with the bitrate dropping quite low as well as macro-blocking in the background of some shots on the UK release. Can anyone confirm if these issues are absent from the US release?

The US release is the exact same as StudioCanal. Lionsgate is the US distributor.

@@djsoulfilter that's what I thought. However no mention of the issues in this review like in others I have seen gave me the impression that the US release may have been corrected.
