This ovāda compares the use of different meditative strategies to different types of warfare. In particular it contrasts, meditation techniques and stately warfare with rules, with total warfare and the skills that experienced meditators are required to develop.

Bhante you have led me to a question... if the only truth is impermanence then wouldnt it stand to reason that even cessation of all consciousness as described in emancipation is impermanent?

That is a reasonable question. The answer to it would lie in the way the Buddha phrases his teachings on impermanence. He doesn't really say that impermance is a supreme truth. Rather, he says that 'all conditioned phenomena are impermanent'. In other words, what's unconditioned is permanent. 'Permanence' is actually an epithet for Nibbāna.
