Haha i did the same misstake Yuan Shu is a dickbag. I made him too powerful and even supported his legitimacy for some trade deals. Turns out he will quickly get to Duke and even get some vassals if you leave him be.

Bruh same.. After I formed my kingdom, my vassal made me wage war on the whole world. Now I'm fcked

@@MeldinX2 He provided a strong defensive border to the west and south in the early game, I even gave him lands to my south so that any enemy would have to go through him first. After 50 turns or so he just wouldn't play nice with any other faction. He had strong disagreements with the other people I brought in, went to war with people who were very friendly with me, and then by the end of the game he was such a mess he kept making yellow turban armies spawn at his cities, and then he died and lost all his land 10 turns before I won the game haha. That was at least satisfying.

@@DirEnGay In this game they actually modelled the characters after their real life counterparts, Yuan Shu was a real prick. Best dealt with asap. especially if you are playing as cao cao.

I also formed a coalition with Yuan shao. He quickly vassalised every single faction around me, so if i declared war on him i'd be declaring war on everyone

The dragon units haven't been too impressive from what I've seen so far. The faction unique units are more interesting to me, and they are sometimes yellow and purple too. I get what you're saying about a balanced army and I agree, but it's also not particularly fun and sometimes beggars can't be choosers, not to mention if you have to bolster an army with a 2nd or 3rd army it would just be kinda boring with 3x blue 3x green 3x red filled with only dragons on a battlefiled. It's like playing Total War: Warhammer and having armies with only dragons in. That is also boring, and expensive on the upkeep might I add.

Well Liu Bei gets what I consider one of the worst units in the entire game especially for him specifically. His archers are expensive and their only selling point is melee stats. They also do not get his militia cost reduction and they are archers when his army wants cavalry. So I am not really interested in the unique units personally. The dragons seem interesting have not unlocked them yet but the green ones seem especially good having bows and spears. The only unique units that look good to me are the cavalry ones as the jade dragons are the only competition. Also with money being easy to come by in campaign it should not be hard to have at least 2 elite units per retinue. I just want them to add high end yellow units so it is not so one sided.

You are correct, Blue green and Red is the most balanced type of army; some factions can work around it because they are more flexible with the unique units such as Sun Jian mercenaries, so you can have flame arrows in a relative short time with a commander (yellow) character, provided he skill tree starts close to the skill itself.

I just looked through all the general abilities for each type. Commanders have some absolutely bonkers things that no other general gets. Here are their unique abilities (every general has a few yellow abilities in their tree, but these are the ones only commanders can get). Unyielding Earth: +1900% charge resistance, +100% melee evasion, unbreakable. An active ability that makes every unit within 75m pretty much invulnerable in melee for 30 seconds. This ability alone is HUGE and has let my army stomp through the main line. Nobility: +20% ranged block chance for melee cavalry (retinue). Commanders have the jian guard cavalry which are already pretty resistant to archers. With the extra block chance, they're amazing at charging archers, better than even the most elite red cavalry. Nature's Ally: +25% speed, +10 morale, Ignore forest penalties. This is a passive 75m aura around the general. Faster army with better morale, not restricted to his retinue, this is a pretty amazing aura and Commanders can make your army so resistant to routing that they'll stand and fight to the death. Meditation: Commander becomes unbreakable, +10 to army morale in defending battles. Another great buff to a general whose biggest value is adding super morale to the center of your army. Makes him even more of an anchor for the force. Stone Bulwark: +100% ranged block chance, Unbreakable. Another active ability in a 75m range for 30 seconds that is HUGE. Pop this on your archers as soon as they start trading with enemy archers and your archers win every time. Also amazing to pop it right as you charge into a settlement fight to protect your men against the towers. So to summarise, Commanders can make your army invulnerable in melee, invulnerable to missile fire, and super morale bonuses. To top it off, a nice little boost to their melee cav in their retinue. Who cares if they don't get a special yellow elite? That would make them more overpowered than they already are. A high ranking commander in your force is definitely nothing to sneeze at.

@@SStoj I almost never do defense battles and when they do happen I am so outnumbered I just auto resolve the loss. I think commanders abilities are really good but melee cavalry are just not as good as shock cavalry and they do not get elites on top of that which is why I think they are not worth using. They are by no means unuseable and having a faction leader commander is really good for the satisfaction buff. I will have to look at the vanguard abilities and judge them against each other some time as that is the main competition for commanders I would think you do not really want both in your army. Ok upon reading the abilities Vanguards seem much better to me as they are basically the same abilities except offense based instead of defense based. They have morale damage passive and active and bonuses when attacking instead of defending. They are mainly used for chasing down dangerous units though and taking out all the major threats before they can do anything. Commanders do have the best active abilities though I tend to not micro the generals that much so for other players they will be more useful.

You need the horse to move out of danger quickly.

If it's spearmen I dismount. If swords/archers I stay on.

2000 to 3500 for most armies (full stack). If you field only elites it could go up to 4000+

@@LogitechG yes. The rome 2 adaptation to Peloponisian - Persian wars was bordering the disaster territories. No depth and variety, no theme of the Era... I would love to see a proper Peloponisian or Napoleonic Era with systems like this or Shogun. But also some features of Rome 1 battle system must be reintroduced. I loved the series over the years but the developers have to admit a huge truth. The hard core T. W. Players still playing Rome 1 mode or Medieval 2 mode... We play the new entries for a couple of months yeah but then we go back to the backbone we loved... And I know Sega, cr.As. and anyone that is involved can do good things. Maybe it's time for a new engine after all those entries. A new one that can marriage the old Rome 1 and Medieval engine with the existing... Let us go back to a more lengthy battles with important strategic decisions. Looking a scroll of numbers like playing a card game is not strategic and what rome was. It's the taming and placing units in the terrain. Taking advantage of everything in the battlefield. Filling gaps. Try to flank etc... I know one day... They are going to give us the ultimate title. 3 kingdoms looks nice but I feel disconnected due to the Era. Never studied it. That's in me though.

This actually depends on if you're French or English, so both are correct. The French pronunciation is mar-kee but the English pronunciation is mahr-kwis.

@@starshadowx2 I'm of the thought that if you want to communicate an idea, and the word originates in a particular culture/language, the word is best to be pronounced the way it is originally intended, this way when we talk, others will at the very least have a better chance to understand what's being said. I'm not a language or grammar nazi but there are some pretty simple common sense guides to make communication easier. I've said the same to other people who have pronounced it 'Mar-Kees' too. That said, while both ways might be phonetically correct based on which language is being spoken, one is better than the other.

I'm a fan of both, but Civ isn't an RTS, it's just a strategy game, whereas Total War is the hybrid Grand strategy game. As for what's first 91 was first Civ game, and 2000 was first total war game.
