Your review is spot on. I'm into dewalt heavily. Bought the hedge trimmer with the 5ah battery. It runs a long time. Picked up the blower with 5ah battery. My reasoning is I have allways run corded electric. Run time is low but no more cords. I now use the blower more often. Great for quick clean ups at landscape jobs I do. Even better for blowing grass off the driveway.
I'd be really curious to try this blower with a 12.0 Ah Flexvolt battery to see if run time and performance improve. I've been waiting for those batteries to go on sale. 😁 The blower will certainly be heavier with a bigger battery.
@@BruceAlanR There are some decent knock-off batteries for cheap. A 2-pack of "9AH" batteries, which is really a pair of (actual) 6AH-effective knock-off batteries can be had for under $100 or about $130 for the really good knock-offs. So far so good for me, but only had them a couple weeks.
At first, I thought this was a well done review until he talked about the gas blower... that is when I realized he was comparing apples with oranges and even bananas at times. I looked at his previous video where he reviews the Snapper blower. Snapper costs more, weights more, doesn’t have more power and it charges slightly faster than the DeWalt one does. Both run for 20 minutes per what he said. The Snapper 48v battery is more than the DeWalt 20v battery but at 2.0ah compared to 5.0ah, that calculates out to be 96watts for Sapper and 100watts for DeWalt but both run for 20 minutes, (which is a slight edge to Snapper). Also, other than using the 48v battery for a USB charger, you can’t plug it into your Snapper cordless drill or cordless sander. So, unless you have the Snapper line of lawn equipment, you have 48v paper weight battery until you need to blow leaves. Snapper only offers two batteries, 48v 2.0ah and 48v 5.0ah, where as DeWalt offers many more amp hour batteries and a lot more options that you can use the battery with. Not truly a fair comparison. And then he compares the Dewalt cordless to a gas blower that can VACUUM. This is misleading. The Snapper one doesn’t vacuum either. There are available blower/ vacuum cordless tools. Review and compare one of those to the gas one. Smh
Thank you for the well thought out comment. I compared apples, bananas, and oranges in an effort to help folks weigh their options. My one regret with this video is I wish I had been able to compare the DeWalt 20V to Milwaukee's M18 blower. I had the opportunity to borrow one from my neighbor last fall, and the Milwaukee was superior. It has two modes (high/low), and provides more consistent power over the life of the battery (I tested it with a 6.0Ah high output battery, which ran for ~25 minutes). Having said that, I still prefer the performance of the 48V Snapper over both the Milwaukee and DeWalt. As you pointed out, Snapper's line of lawn tools is rather obscure and not a versatile platform. The comparison of the DeWalt blower to the gas powered blower/vac was intended to let folks know there are less expensive blowers available (albeit not cordless) that will provide more power (and consistent power), as well as mulching/vacuuming options. At this time, I'm not aware of any cordless blower/vacs available from DeWalt or Milwaukee (I try to stick with platforms I'm invested in). Anyway, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate your opinions and feedback.
I realize this video is 3 yrs old but some of us turn to them for product info and recommendations. I bought this blower last month along with a 6ah and 4ah (packaged) XR batteries. I didn’t expect much run time. Here’s what I experienced: 6ah - 20 minutes; 5ah - 15 mins; 4ah XR - 5 mins; 4ah standard 10 mins. All batteries brand new except for the 3 yr old 4ah std which died and will not recharge after one usage with the blower. It was hot when I removed it. Every charger shows that it is fully charged but it is dead. The blower meets our needs for the most part and is somewhat comparable to our gas Husqvarna but is far, far less powerful than my daughter’s Husqvarna backpack model. I wish it had better battery life but fortunately I have enough batteries to get the leaves up in our front yard. Not having to fool with gas and hard starting, lightweight, much quieter than a gas model and ease of use are all worthwhile pluses.
I just purchased this blower I need it for cleaning up around the jobsite or blowing out the van I won’t be using it for more than two minutes at a time so this will be perfect

Bought this and return after trying for 2 days. Package has 1 battery that fully charged lasted 13 minutes straight work. It takes approximately 2 hrs to recharge. Gets very hot by the time it runs out and have to wait almost 1 hr to cool before charging it again. more than 1 hr to get fully charged. I will need about 7 or 8 batterys. And 2 fast chargeres in order to do a simple work with that. very very very expensive to go that way. Its light easy to use strong enough blower not very loud but not practical in terms of length of work time.

@@dwag303 I bought an electric one that not only blows but also changes to vacuum and mulch the leaves. Then I got the small battery operated ryobi for quick little jobs to blow leaves grass dust and other debris around paved areas flower beds etc.
For cordless, I hear the EGO platform is great, but it’s not affordable. I also like the Milwaukee M18 blower. The other option for the DeWalt is to get the biggest battery possible.
I guess to each their own. I have a small yard and just need it to be strong enough to blow some leaves out of our shrubs for about 5 minutes. This tool will be a beauty
I picked this blower up recently with the intentions to use it for light duty around the house and it has done really well. I wasnt expecting the power of my gas powered backpack blower. but for 130$ the kit is pretty decent, battery consumption is the down side, but again I'm not blowing the 160 unit complex I work for with it.

Just for kicks I borrowed my neighbor’s Milwaukee M18 blower the other day and used an M18 6.0AH high output battery. Run time was only 25 minutes; however power didn’t drop off significantly like the DeWalt. I was double fisting blowers and swapping between the Milwaukee, the DeWalt, and my Snapper HD Blower. If I had to rank them, I'd say the Snapper was my favorite (it has a boost mode that can take leaves out of shrubs like my hand-held gas and backpack blowers), followed by the Milwaukee (low and high modes are helpful... low doesn't blow mulch out of the beds), and then the DeWalt. Despite is short run time and less than super power it seems it may be all I need for my small townhouse yard to gather leaves in the fall. The ability to blow that light dusting of dry snow would have been handy this past winter as that is all we got and a household broom handled it fine but took effort my aging body is running out of LOL
I hear that! My 50 lbs ladder seems to get heavier every year. 😃 This blower is fine for light duty in a small yard. Always good to have an extra battery though just in case.
Bought mine 2 years ago this month, October 2024. It died. Used it lightly around the house, blew off my porch, blew out my two car garage and grass off my driveway after mowing. Started to have motor starting problems the last year. Seemed related to the trigger. Now waiting to talk to customer service.
Yeah, OK, I get it , the battery fades after several minutes of continuous use , like just about every other battery tool in history. I think you may have been expecting a little too much on that point. Other than that, though, great review , and very funny, how can you not love a Beavis And Butthead reference in a leaf blower review?

As far as power fading, I do have battery tools that run fade free and shut down once full power can’t be delivered, but it is more the exception than the rule. I was just surprised that this blower faded so quickly. It’s a pig when it comes to batteries.
A blower that don't have a turbo blast button is useless for yard clean up. i was going to purchase one but I decided to buy the Ridgid blower and got it at a discount price.
I agree! If you're on the RIDGID platform, you probably made the right choice. I'm on both the DeWalt 20V and Milwaukee M18 platforms and I've borrowed my neighbor's Milwaukee to test (he has the single-battery version). It has a boost mode and blows this DeWalt away. The Milwaukee M18 dual-battery blower blows them both away; however, it's really heavy and requires two batteries to run.
The battery is not discharged, the voltage drops just like when you put too much weight on a shelf, it bows down, after rest you can use it again. They do that so that you harm the batteries faster, then you'll buy more.
Meh, that's my opinion as well. The battery life doesn't really bug me - I don't really run it more than 20 min at time anyway. But I was expecting a bit more power than my old one.
After 5 minutes of using this I’ll be returning it to Home Depot. Man what a shame, takes me longer to drive to the store than the actually use time I get on this product
I agree! If I didn’t have a stack of 20V Max batteries, I wouldn’t keep this blower. I much prefer my Snapper Battery and gas blowers. Today I borrowed my neighbor’s Milwaukee M18 blower since I’m also invested in the Red and Black M18 platform. I used the blower with an M18 6.0AH high output battery. It only lasted 25 minutes, but power didn’t drop off after 5 minutes like the DeWalt. With all the Black Friday deals it’s hard to resist upgrading or adding tools. 😃

Ha! That's the first time I received a 'Police Squad' reference. The blower is mediocre, but fine for small jobs. I love my backpack blower, but agree they're a lot to lug out for the small stuff.
Y not just use a 9 r 12ah flexvolt battery I have several dewalt tools and I never use the small bullsh.. batteries that come with it they even have a 15ah battery I think I will get so I can go longer time with yea some may say the bigger batteries are pricey I would agree but if u have more than 4 r 5 tools it may be a option ;-) nice demo tho I am thinking about getting dewalt flexvolt blower just for surface stuff

If you’re on the EGO platform, def return the DeWalt. If I could start fresh, I’d choose the EGO platform for home lawn care. I’m also on the Milwaukee M18 platform so I also have the Milwaukee two battery blower which is as powerful as my two-cycle gas blower. Unfortunately the Milwaukee fatigues my forearm in about than 5 minutes because it’s not well balanced. I end up holding it like a proton blaster and switching hands regularly as I get tired. The Milwaukee also eats through batteries when run at full throttle (and I use two 6.0AH high output batteries); however, it doesn’t loose significant power like the DeWalt.

It depends! The concentrator works well for focusing the air to remove stubborn leaves from shrubs or blow mulch back from the flowerbed edges. Without the concentrator, the blower moves debris faster from a larger area.
For this kind of device you need the 3 rows type of battery, the 9AH, and alternate between 2 batteries in order to get a better experience, just feel the battery, when the battery plastic reache body temperature, switch them. But in aby case this kind of blower does a good job but is nothing to be compared with a fossil fuelled one.
I have a 20v 8ah battery, would you agree that this would make the blower acceptable to use around the house (blowing grass, some leaves, etc)? or would buying a 60v with a battery be a better choice?
8 ah battery will definitely get you more time. If you go with a flexvolt, just look at the specs to see how many amp hours it provides at 20V. That will tell you how it compares to an 8Ah battery.
I just bought this blower. The battery only last less that 10 minutes continuous use. Is that normal or do I need a take it back? Can a higher Ah battery works in this unit?
You can use the higher Ah batteries (6,8,9, etc) for more run time. What battery are you using? The 4.0 Ah should last more than 10 minutes so it sounds more like a battery issue than a blower issue.
Bought one on Amazon. Tool only as I already had the 20v batteries that are basically new. Each battery will only last maybe 5 mins of fairly steady work. Not sure why. Do I need to reach out to Dewalt or the seller on Amazon or what? Seems they should last longer than 5 mins
How many Amp hours (Ah) are the batteries you’re using? 2 and 3 Ah batteries won’t run the blower for more than 5 minutes. You need at least a 5Ah battery to get small jobs done.
I bought this blower kit about 2 weeks ago. When I opened the box the battery and charger were just loose in the box. I thought that was odd. Most of my Dewalt 20V tools came with the charger/battery in a plastic bag. I also noticed that the tape on the top of the box appeared to he "tampered with." I didn't really pay attention to it while in the store. I put the battery on the charger and it was fully charged. I myself, have several batteries and chargers so I put this battery onto another charger. Fully charged. I assembled the blower and went outside to check it out. The battery lasted 4 minutes. 😡 I got one of my fully charged 4Ah batteries and the same issue... about 4 minutes... At least you got 10 minutes.... 2.5x longer than I did. 😂

@@BruceAlanR It came with a 5Ah battery. Fully charged it lasted 4 minutes. I put it back on the charger and within 2 or 3 seconds it states it was fully charged. I already had a 4Ah and a few 2Ah.. At first I thought it may be the blower or the battery contacts. I checked the contacts on the blower and the battery fits perfectly, no slop. I returned it today and after reading reviews here, I see many comments about the battery life. I'm thinking of buying a 60V blower but I will do a lot more research prior to making a choice..... or maybe just go back to a corded one...
The 60V has better reviews. I looked at it, but because I’m still on the 20V platform, I wasn’t ready to make the investment. I’d also like to check out the EGO blowers since they’re supposedly powerful. My neighbor has the Milwaukee M18 fuel blower, which I considered as well. It’s heavy, but with an M18 HD 12AH battery it runs for hours. If you wouldn’t mind, let me know what you decide and how you like it once you’ve used it. Thanks again!
Would throwing an 8AH alleviate some of the frustrations? Seems the target market for this is sort of the casual folks as they have more expensive blowers do they not?
Yes, a battery like the Flex Volt (9.0Ah at 20V or 3.0 Ah at 60V) would power the tool longer... or an arsenal of batteries like I have. The one thing this blower really would benefit from though is a BOOST mode (Snapper models) or Turbo mode (EGO and Milwaukee). DeWalt does have more expensive blowers that move more air per minute (higher CFM), for example the 60V models, but I'm not invested in that platform...yet. I have to agree the target market seems to be casual users given the power doesn't rival that of gas powered blowers. I'm sure that will change eventually.
We have the dewalt Gen 1 blower works great for what we do ... what’s the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 besides what I can read on on internet ... thanks
The only major (or perhaps not really major) differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2 that I know of are more CFM (Gen 1= 400 vs. Gen 2 = 450 CFM) and a better placed trigger slider. The concentrator is new too, but half the time I can’t find it. 😃

The DeWalt is my least favorite and far from best in its class - short run time, weakest power, quick drop in power, etc. It’s definitely, “Meh“ in my opinion.
I try not to make recommendations, but I'd be happy to share info on products I own or have used. I have the DeWalt blower because I'm invested in the 20V max platform and have lots of batteries. I also have a Snapper HD blower (450 CFM, 120 MPH), which I got before the DeWalt. I actually like it better than the DeWalt because it has a boost mode. Unfortunately, I'm not invested in the platform so I only have two 2.0Ah batteries for 40 minutes of run time. In hindsight, I would have chosen the Milwaukee 2724-20 (450 CFM, 120 MPH), which my neighbor let me try recently. It's a bit heavy, but has two speeds and decent run time with a 5.0AH M18 battery... exceptional run time with M18 HD12 battery, which I have (makes it heavy like a gas blower). I'd like to try one of the new EGO blowers (Power+ 580 CFM, 168 MPH on boost), with variable speed and boost, which boasts 75 minutes of run time with a 5.0Ah battery. It's expensive, but a buddy of mine says it's worth the price tag... unfortunately he did say it's very heavy. Hope that helps!

Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.
Depends on what platform you’re in. If I could do electric lawn tools over (mower, string trimmer, blower), I’d go with EGO. I like the 56Volt, 765 CFM model. Having said that, I’m also in the Milwaukee platform and like the M18 single battery blower (my neighbor has it and I’ve compared it to the DeWalt). The Milwaukee M18 double battery blower is powerful (I actually have it); however I don’t like that it requires two batteries to run and it gets heavy quickly. It’s also a battery hog.

Unfortunately, I don’t get a commission. I make these videos to help folks make an informed decision. The DeWalt blower does suck batteries, so if you don’t have a bunch, it’s hard to keep the tool running. If you have some 9 or 12Ah flexvolt batteries, you’ll be fine. Get some rest. 😃

HAD the 1st Gen Dewalt String trimmer 13" Junk Lasted 1.5 years motor blown , + swath too small . the Snapper is 16" swath much better and Quiet. had the Troy Bilt 29cc Trimmer before was OK but Emissions too smelly .now have the Cub Cadet 25cc as back up Emssion Compliant for 150 hrs compared to 50 hrs for Troy bilt .
Thanks for the reply and sharing your experiences. I recently got the new foldable DeWalt 20V string trimmer, which I hope to review once the grass is taller. It sounds like they used a small drill motor for the head. I don’t like it nearly as much as my 28cc (17” swath) Husqvarna trimmer. I also have a CORE battery trimmer (14” swath... same as the new DeWalt), which I like more than the DeWalt although it’s heavier and not portable. If it weren’t for the fact that I have a lot of 20V Max power tools and batteries, I’d likely look beyond DeWalt for lawn tools.

CORE was purchased by MTD Products in 2015. It seemed like they were going to continue the line, but then the products seemed to evaporate a few years later. I was going to get a DeWalt 40V and I'm glad I didn't. They discontinued it just before I was going to get it. Ha! And the 20V Max mower just seemed wrong to me, so I got a Snapper 82V mower, which I like.
Will it work? Kinda, but there are more powerful options (gas, battery blowers with more CFM and air speed) that would work better. Also, given run time is so lame on the DeWalt, the impact of cold on the battery’s cells would likely make performance even worse. As to whether a battery powered blower should be used for blowing snow in general, I’m sure DeWalt would say no.
In fact it draws too much amps from the 2 rows battery. It's over spec, even with the best 18650 cells. I have much better result with my own 3 rows battery I use LG cells and the battery does not heat up and the rpms of the motor do not fall. A 3 rows battery gives a constant strong umf that can be present with a 2 rows battery in the first 10 seconds. With 2 rows batteries, my advice is to alternate batteries, this way one can rest in your pocket while you make the second battery suffer, and alternate them to reduce the suffering.
IT"S 20V!!!!!!!!!!!......................... It's an amazing blower for 20v. ;) Takes me a couple of minutes to blow the sidewalks and curb after mowing. if you are buying this to take care of a big tree'd yard - get a clue. ;)
I agree. For 20V it's fine. The 48V blower has the same 450 CFM as the DeWalt, and blows a max of 120 mph versus the Dewalt's 125 mph. They both run for the same amount of time; however, the 48V provides more consistent power during the duration.

I had one of these for just less than 3 months when it emitted a grinding noise and quit. It never ran again. Sent it back to Home Depot for refund. I’ll be replacing it with something else. I can’t recommend this blower.

I’ll be interested to hear how you like the DeWalt 60V blower. Post back if you like. If I recall it’s rated the same at 125mph, but the CFM is higher (600 vs 450).
I was hoping someone would respond. I only have a 9Ah flex-volt knockoff so it wouldn’t be accurate. Most knockoff batteries perform at the level of a smaller OEM battery.

Nope, I will never buy another cordless DeWalt leaf blower again. I have owned two cordless DeWalt Leaf blowers and both have died shortly after the end of their warranty dates. In my opinion they are designed to fail.
I hear you! I love my gas powered tools. I guess the question is do I want to spend the time mixing fuels, maybe the gas is from last season so I have to drive to the gas station… or do I just grab a batt powered tool and get to work? Same with my corded power tools… Do I get out my corded circular saw, jig saw, recip saw, etc along with extension cords or do I just grab my cordless tools and get to work? All about convenience for me.
@@BruceAlanR Clear Fuel is a Great option for gas powered tools and they start all the time and the power grid in the United States is so outdated too much Electric use with Electric cars and so on is definitely going to cause major blackouts in the Future and i did purchase an EBike mid engine drive to check it out kinda cool it will take decades to get the power grid up to date.
