You have an incredible ability to go straight to what people want to see or learn when they click on your videos. I normally skip at least half the duration time of a video, but I always watch yours almost entirely. And the amazing thing is that not a second is thrown away in useless things, but always used to say something interesting (except for sponsors, but you got me to know about Notion and Skillshare, so it's impossible to complain about anything). You definitely earned your million subscribers.

Also worth mentioning, without the cooling fan the MacBook Air has no moving parts, therefore it will likely have a longer lifespan and no dust being drawn inside so less cleaning and maintenance

@@anouaressanoussi Sometimes I make €300 in half an hour. Last week I made that in 20min. Problem is that it's not in a regular, sustained manner. Back in 2005 to 2008 people who did what I do now (it's a very niche and rare law related profession) could make €5000-€7000 a day.

What a helpful video. Initially I was thinking about going for the Pro, however on reflection after watching this video, I think the Air is the one for me. I don't and will not be video editing on the Mac, I will just be doing product research on the daily, so I think the Pro would be a bit overkill for me and I wouldn't be utilizing a lot of it's capabilities. I've had an iPad Pro 11 for almost a year as my ONLY computing device, it didn't work out... Everything was very good on paper, but the long history of macOS still wins out the experiential iPad Pro interface as a computer replacement

@@7itese840 Same dude I bought one a month ago and whenever I take out even my aged windows laptop from the drawer, I wish I had bought one of these M1 macbooks. iPads are great but really for a niche group of people and I am definitely not one of those and don't have many bucks to spend on a macbook now. Maybe I'll stick with my iPad, now that I've spend a hell lot of money on it.

Ali, you didn’t mention the main differentiator between the Air and the Pro - which is that the wedge shape of the Air makes it much easier to type on.

Honestly I think for many people, a main decider is going to come down to the Touch Bar. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple are paying close attention to the sales demand between the two models, to collect some feedback on how desirable the Touch Bar really is. The models are so close in most ways, it's arguably the most consequential difference between the two. The battery life of both models is already so huge an improvement compared to what people are used to, it'll be really telling if more people still choose the Air even if the Pro's lasts longer. Apple have excellent sales data analysts so I'm sure they'll be able to get a decent verdict on how popular or unpopular the Touch Bar is, based on how many people (and which kind of people) choose the Air instead.

Currently writing this on my base model M1 MacBook Air. It is ridiculous how good it is. For reference I bought the Dell XPS 13 a month or so ago and I had to return two different units because the quality was horrible (bad keyboard, weird screen, bad sound, dead pixels etc...) and I'm so glad I did. I saved nearly $150 by buying this instead and I don't regret it one second. It should be noted that this is my first MacBook ever which probably adds to the wow factor. It is a joy to use.

great review. One small thing I'll point out ... macbook's sound best when kept directly on the surface i.e desk/table etc. Apple designs them to achieve optical reflection of sound from the surface, thereby getting better sound from these tiny speakers. If you keep a mbp on a mba, you're may be downgrading the sound slightly.

@@bsvphotography7 Agreed, but in this case it's not even a coincidence. Mass produced products are too common for it to be categorized as a coincidence when another person has them too. It would be a coincidence to be from a small town, go on vacation to visit your uncle and find out that his neighbor is a close relation to your neighbor back home. Having the same mouse and computer speakers as someone is just straight up expected. Like pulling into a parking space next to a honda civic and going, "Ah! I see you too have one of the most popular cars in the country!"

I went for the Pro in the end and I’m glad I did but i completely agree it is definitely only worth it if you’re actually going to stress that CPU with very big workloads. The fans are useful and do come on if you’re really pushing it. Wouldn’t trust the Air with sustained gaming either, with so much running through Rosetta I found the unit’s did heat up, I’d imagine that would be more noticeable on the air

Great to see a RU-vidr actually choosing the Pro over the Air and emphasising the importance of battery life. That's a huge deal for me, it's more important even than performance, and it's why I went with the speced out 13 inch over the new 14 inch despite there only being a 200 pound difference and really loving the new display and thin bezels. Macbooks are portable devices and the more battery you can squeeze out of a laptop the better the portability will be. Amazon now sells the Pro for about 200 pounds off so it's even harder these days to justify the Air when there's only about a 100 pound price difference between the retail price of the Air and the deals on the Pro. 2 hours battery life difference is pretty huge, that alone could see your through most flights around Europe. The battery will also age better because as the battery degrades over time, the loss in battery life won't feel as significant on the Pro as it will on the Air

Just ordered MBP M1 upgrading from my Trusty 2015 MBP 13". Firstly, I have a biasness towards MBP (over MBA) for obvious reasons, my oldie has served me so well for 6 yr! Secondly, I'm actually fascinated by thr touch bar and I believe that it can make me actually productive and help in my Onenote workflow (as a student, controls for highlighting, changing colour of selected text, etc can come on the touchbar itself which can be a boon for me). Let's see how it goes, can't wait for it to arrive! PS: I upgraded the Ram to 16gb to be futureproof as I'll grill it hopefully for 6 yr like I did with my previous machine!

I bought the same one almost exactly for the same reasons. It's been 2 happy months cause I take it everywhere with me (and I mean EVERYWHERE and I'm never home). I basically just take the charger with me to go to my job, for all the rest I don't and battery never dies cause it really lasts many hours. I also plan to start doing podcasts (I used to work on radio) so microphones and audio are important to me. And the fan, I need the fan. I already made it work so hard it got super hot, and the fan doesn't sound at all while working (not like my old macbook pro that sounded so hard hahah)... Greetings from Colombia.

I got the M1 MacBook Air. It’s pretty fast for everything I use it for, the keyboard, screen and trackpad is phenomenal. I would also recommend 16gb of ram, I notice the new chrome browser eats a lot of ram for watching RU-vid videos. The only disappointment is the speakers. My 2012 MacBook Pro easily sounds 2x better than these

Am I the only one who loves the touch bar? With BetterTouchTool I've created/scripted various configs for apps like Android Studio, VSCode etc. It honestly speeds up my workflow such a lot, obviously the stock Apple touch bar layout is trash, never understand why people don't delve deeper to see if it could be useful for them!

Ali, I will be studying systems engineering and project management next year. You said basically the Macbook Air would be suitable if there is no intensive processing (video editing, etc) as a regular requirement. Given engineering computation does that still hold true? I would also like to power the Macbook, use an external monitor and potentially an external drive at the same time. What is the best external monitor for the M1 Macbook (Air/Pro), how would you connect multiple devices give the two TB/USB C ports? Finally, thanks for the excellent videos and balanced information.

Really? I would go for the pro. Better sound, higher brightness, better battery life, a fan just in case, better build quality. Only 300 more for having it like 5 years is fine .

@@waylon6241 5 years? I'm still using a 2007 MacBook pro 17" screen. It's a beast. you can't surf the web anymore as security protocols are too advanced. I would hope I can do the same thing with this Macbook pro. (for the record, the hard drive began failing about four years ago and I was able to safely back it up and replace the drive)

@@EmpyreanLightASMR well I mean at least 5 years. I had a MB pro 2012 and now bought this m1. My battery died and I would normally replace it, but then this m1 came and I decided to buy a new one.

Touch Bar is also a dealbreaker for me as well. Also more costly to replace if something goes wrong.

Hi! May I ask what would be the better buy? This M1 Macbook Air or an Ipad Pro/Air 4? Which do you find more productive? *I would go for the Macbook, but I do really want to use an Apple Pencil to take note on the Ipad as I'm currently a college freshman and, as some don't really mind, I would benefit with the main camera. Thus, is it worth it that I choose an Ipad Pro/Air 4 over the Macbook Air just because of these? I'm gonna use it as my one and only tool, so it's kinda hard to decide since I value efficiency and productivity that, as I have heard from people, Macbook offers more than an Ipad.

Hello there, Honestly you review was amazing. I loved how the difference you have explained. I was going for the Macbook pro 2020 but as you mentioned that if you are a hardcore user you should go for Pro but if not. Macbook Air just works perfectly fine. Also, touch has not impressed me either. it do have its own good feature. but if you are doing programming. It best to have keys instead of touch bar.

I love the video! Just curious of you opinion, I currently have the 15” MacBook Pro 2017 and have been having issues with it running pretty slow. I was thinking of getting a new one since to get it fixed it will cost me $1500. Would it be worth to switch to an air or would I miss the touch bar and other capabilities of a pro?

I think a good choice would be taking the air (cheaper) but upgrade it to 16GB, 512GB. Then you have a price closer to the pro (slightly higher) but with better features. I'm waiting for the M1X this autumn though

Great video! I'm leaning toward the Pro now. Next question is 8GB or 16GB of RAM? They really have me confused as it has been ingrained in me to think that 8GB just isn't enough.

for daily sipmle use 8 gb is enough..buy if you plan to use it as a pro with logic pro x or finalcut xand 4k rendering then 16 gb

@@katseazzz Thanks for the info. I've watched so many 8GB vs 16GB comparison videos and I think the 8GB would be enough for as I don't edit video or audio. At most, I edit 10 20mb RAW images in Lightroom Classic twice a week... definitly not a power user.

Thanks for the information DOC. I went with an Air, I have powerhouse PC for power demanding stuff. Wasn't sure if I need the pro or not since the price is almost the same. I just wanted one everyday browsing internet/RU-vid/Netflix.

Good video! Basically get the Air if you’re a normal person and get the pro if you’re a gamer, creative, or productive workhorse. I’m gonna go with the Pro since I’m a 3D modeler. Edit: I got the pro, zero regrets. Definitely not needed for an average user, but definitely perfect for production people.

Get the air+a laptop cooler pad xddd If you are working for hours and hours you would probably on a desk and having a cooler on your table is not bad at all also it also works as stand for your laptop

Went with the M1 Air, the function keys are so useful, whereas the tocuhbar on my current Pro goes unused.
