Though job for the sales guy at vandal having to talk people into buying a boat with just 220nm range that’s marketed as some crazy explorer

220nm at 35kts. You need to learn how range works.
@TrolloTV
@TrolloTV Год назад
@@MrSilus2000 And you need to learn how to read. In the description it says 215nm at 12.8 knots. Even at displacement speeds you’re probably looking at ranges in the mid three digits, which is basically nothing compared to other boats that actually fall into this „explorer“ category

Don't think I've ever seen a less spacious 46ft cat. Epic fail IMO.
@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 Год назад
I guess you missed the part which was repeated countless times: you can spec it how you want. Overall this isn't a boat who's mission is to pack as many cabins as possible per foot of length. There is more to life than the two first spec numbers...just like how there is more to cars than how many seats you can cram per foot of length at low as possible price. Do you know of a similarly lightweight, customisable as well as tough, long-lifespan 46 ft cat which would be better in some way? Genuine question. A much heavier 'plastic' boat is not comparable. Aquila 44 Yacht's dry weight is 16 tons, fully laden 22 tons, while this Vandal Explorer is reported to be 10.6 tons half load, 11.4 tons "full normal load". Aquila's top speed is 17 knots, and is only fuel efficient at extremely low speeds...you have to be going under 10 knots to be as fuel-efficient as the Vandal at fast cruise. A "more spacious" GRP boat is a much slower, heavier tub in comparison to the far faster yet efficient Vandal. Made for different purposes. The Vandal will probably last decades longer too. A single-hull GRP Axopar 45 XC Cross Cabin weighs 7 tons without the 3x300hp engines...and is hardly comparative in space as the catamaran, so you'd have to really pick a far longer monohull for comparison. According to what Vandal and Axopar report, these two boats are approx the same speed, have the same range, and have the same fuel burn per nm... I'd say that's a pretty big win for the Vandal.

@@pistonburner6448 thanks for yet another random rant on the internet, we def were lacking those.
@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 Год назад
@@abhishekparmar6702 Absolutely not random, absolutely not a rant. You seem to be lacking in intelligence, education and upbringing to write such a lowlife reply to someone who has commented 100% on-topic and with that comment having been very well considered from all approaches, being overall very well thought out, and having clearly laid out argumentation to back up each assertion. My reply was a textbook example of how to debate or have conversations on a subject matter. If you have a problem with something that I wrote then you are welcome to attempt to properly point out which argument you are trying to shoot down, and give clear and proper counter-argumentation. But you seem to have a few screws loose and severe issues so I won't be expecting anything but purely bad behavior from you.

Fantastic concept. Some fab features. But in my view, too expensive for what you get. There are other options in the market that offer a lot more for the money. Some further development and it would be amazing. One cabin for c€1m is really pushing it…

A famous designer and "a few friends of his develop a boat"...we've heard that story so many times before: the first thing you know is they're only selling these as a hobby so the price will be astronomical. Their main focus was making a few boats for themselves, and if they can get a few bucks back by finding a few buyers they thought setting up a website doesn't cost much... I'm not blaming them or saying that's wrong btw. Having said that, which boat offers more for less? Actually come to think of it, for what this boat offers, if the boat you buy is a bit less of a 'prototype look' than these examples, it doesn't seem bad at all?

Don't get this boat at all, way to expensive, very loud, rubbish range and 1 cabin.

there are several companies in the US pacific NW and in Canada which produce all aluminum adventure craft for use in and around Alaska and the Bering Sea Some even have a lowering front ramp to load and off load one or more 4 wheel ATVs for exploration.

Sorry chaps…. I couldn’t resist it. I’ve got a bigger flybridge on my Swift Trawler 34 and on the runaround Robalo 180 there’s a bigger cool box than on this Vandal. I’d love to say something positive about it, I’m sure the new owners love it. That’s that then.

Not to much to like on that boat. They should make the beam wider and the the walk-around both wider and gunwales higher with a rail. I'd rather have an Axopar 45 for less money.

An interesting boat for sure but oh dear, all that noise would be so so tiring. Accommodation seems somewhat limited too for a boat of that length with outboards. Thanks though, a great review as always.

I just don't understand these outboard boats...horrible. If you have to half-ass the engine and use outboards, then the new Rotax outboard design is the way to go (once available at all power levels). In 5 years everyone will be offering such better designs, or will just continue being the inferior, possibly cheaper option that sticks out like a sore thumb and is in the way.

I like the ethos around the design, it certainly looks like an adventurer but the package as a whole doesn't make sense in my opinion, especially for the $$ they're asking.

Like the rugged build, simple systems and the fact that it can be beached. Would be great in Caribbean where finding qualified service technicians is challenging. Also like how easy it is to custom design for your exact needs. I wish I could have heard the engine noise at the slowest cruising speed where the boat just gets up on foil

Great and thorough review, thanks Alex. Not a boat I’d give a thought to if I had the money. Poor amount of space for a 46’ flybridge (cat or not), not particularly nice to look at, way too loud, and generally no redeeming features. Shame 😵‍💫
