Sir I understood about the enhancement of the thoughness of the outer layer But how this compressive stress in the outer surface and tension in the inner surface will be contributing for making the glass better ... In a layman's point of view it's instability ..
Your question is very valid. In fact, by introducing tension inside the glass has become more susceptible to crack propagation at those locations. However, it the surface where there is is the highest probability of cracks to exist. Thus by introducing compression on the surface there is higher probability of glass to become resistant to crack propagation.
