Toughest Calf Pull Ever! 

You did what any farmer would have done for your cow. I have watched enough of other farmers in this circumstance to know you did well. Life isn't perfect and you are correct, you saved your cow. You are a good farmer.

RU-vid will demonitise this video just because it is not pretty. Thank you for having the courage to show the bad times as well as the good. You were right to handle the problem yourself. The longer that dead calf stayed in the cow the worst for her.

The reason I like Tyler's vlog, is that you get to see all the things involved in running a ranch. The good & the nots so nice. Just the way real farm life is. Most of the people who didn't stay to watch this video, are the ones who can't face life's problems. I realize there were those who just couldn't watch, and I understand that, but for those that will complain or nit pick, go watch a cooking show, we'll all be better off! Thanks again, Tyler, for showing ranching as it really is.

I'm new to your videos, but I grew up with cattle ranchers in my family. What impressed me is your obvious sympathy and care for your animals. You lost a calf, but you saved a cow. That's a win. One thing I've learned about you tube and arm chair critics...it doesn't matter what you do, someone is going to try a critique it. Keep up the obvious good work!

Thank you Tyler for showing everything. I'm not a rancher, but I lived on a ranch years ago & found cows having trouble & helping the rancher pull the calf. It has to be done. My area has a veterinarian shortage too with no ranch calls. It takes 6 months & $500. + to get a female cat spay. My granddaughters have horses & I'm thankful none have colicked needing a ranch call. Unfortunately they would die waiting unless we took action, got them walking & had some RX meds. This comment is for the naysayers. Non ranchers have a hard time understanding that to do nothing or wait hours is worse. Sorry for your loss💙

I watched "Cross Timbers Bison". This happened to one of his female buffalo. Where she had a leg sticken out. But couldnt deliver the calf. By the time he noticed a leg sticking out. He called the vet. The vet informed him. He needed to get the calf out asap. Or the momma would die. He got the momma buffalo in the chute. He reached to grab the leg to pull. But the calf was in advanced decomp. The smell was awful. Hed walked away gagging and throwing up. It fell apart on him. He got the leg out and some other parts. He ended up giving the momma large dose of antibiotics and meds to trigger her to expel the calf out. She cant be bred again because of all that. I think what you did Tyler was the right decision.

Tyler, PLEASE stop beating yourself up. Ignore the arm chair quarter backs. They know NOTHING about being a farmer and all of the things you do is from a combination of "on the job experience" and schooling. You do a remarkable job every day and as you said, not everything is a success. Keep up the great work and keeping us up to date on your farming.

You did amazing! It's to bad that some just have never stepped foot on a ranch but think they know how to ranch. It's a very high adrenaline enducing experience during calving season when things start to go wrong and you are just trying to save a baby and or mom! Never 2nd guess yourself. You are amazing and have great instincts.

Good job Tyler! Clearly that cow needed your help. Can't imagine someone having a negative comment about how this all transpired. When you raise livestock, these things sometimes happen. The calf was stillborn and you just saved a cow's life because she would have died if it weren't for your knowledge on how to get the dead calf out...and fast. Thanks for saving her life!👍

You cant sugar coat it. Its the good, bad an ugly. Ive been watching a long time now. That one was tough. An its been a while since youve had bottle calves too. You are the vet. Dealing with livestock ive told my daughter about this many times.

That was heart breaking. I hope mama cow recovers. You really care about your animals and it shows.

I’m not a farmer, but I’ve been around cattle most of my adult life. You absolutely did the right thing - you saved your cow and did so in the safest and kindest way. It’s part of life with livestock (as you said) and it’s good for folks to see moments like this and how you choose to handle them. No criticism here, Tyler - you did well.

You saved #33. good for you. Without your intervention, both #33 and the calf would be dead. Well done. It is amazing how rugged 33 is to walk away from that difficult/painful experience.

Kudo’s to you for doing what needed to be done, doing it and then posting the video. You were even thoughtful enough to let folks know in advance that it would be difficult to watch (as you’ve done previously with abscesses). Anyone who has followed you for any length of time sees how much you care. When you stop to talk to or pet the dogs, when you bottle feed a calf, and lest we forget Buddy! Even your initial remark when the ordeal was over demonstrated your care when you said how sorry you were to the poor momma. I don’t profess to know a whole lot about what you do, but having been hanging around for 80+ years has taught me a few things about people, and you are definitely one of the good ones! You did very well Tyler. Saving the cow is #1. She’ll most likely breed back next year. Losing a calf isn’t easy but if you lose the cow, you lost it, the current calf and any future calves she would have had. You made the best decision in those circumstances.

Coming from someone that has watched a lot of episodes of The Incredible Doctor Pol and have watched him pull a lot of cows, you have nothing to be apologizing for. Watch a prolapse episode and what it takes to put it back in position is an eye opener. You did a great job and the cow survived that's all you could have done.

I’m a 71 year old country girl. Raised on a farm in Illinois. (Live in Oklahoma now)You did a great job, no criticism here. Saving the animal is paramount for alot of reasons. That calf was gone yesterday. I know as sure as I’m sitting here some people are griping about calling the vet. He/She would have done what you did. So the outcome is the same except you saved a few hours of suffering for the cow. Good job and God bless you for the hard work and care you put into your animals. You got some healthy happy looking kiddos too. That’s great!

Back when I was a teenager my dad called me away from an Alabama LSU game on TV to help him deliver a calf. We were lucky and the little boy calf I got to name after Bear Bryant-I called him Bear. When I got inside my mom threw away my clothes which were covered in after birth totally ruined my clothes. But found memories about helping my dad!!! Sorry you lost the little one!

This is the toughest thing I do believe a farmer has to deal with crop farmers. They deal with a different kind of depression. Ranchers, we deal with death, either accidental or also butchering, either way. Farming is not easy. It takes a special person to farm and nowadays. Yeah, it's even harder. I was deeply touched by this video Tyler. I am not a farmer/rancher and only know what I know from watching youtubers like yourself. However, I do know that life is what it is, and that we all face situations at times where we have to act, rightly or wrongly, based on the knowledge that we have at that time. Like you say 20/20 vision is a wonderful thing. I am sorry for you loss, but I am glad that you saved momma, and that you have that 'keep on going forward' attitude. All the very best and much love to you, your family, and your ranch.

Nice to see a Rancher that is willing to post things that don't always go right. While not a "failure" of yours for any reason the fact that you stuck with it and saved the Mom is honorable. Hopefully this was the "one off" and the remainder of your calving season goes smoothly. Sorry for the loss....even one is too many.

By the time you knew you had a problem - as you never saw her in labor - it was too late to do anything else except lose the cow. Since that was even worse than the outcome - you did the best that could have been done. I was fine until you told her you were sorry. That was the sweetest thing ever, it touched my heart but left a bruise. Hope you had something you could give her to deal with the physical pain and loss. If I were your grandmother - I'd be so proud of you. That's how I know your grandfather would feel the same way.

Makes for a tough day but the outcome was as good as anybody could reasonably expect. Hope she doesn't have any other complications. Well done Tyler.

I heard a lot of empathy in your voice for that poor cow. You saved her life. I watch a lot of assisted births on the Twin Elm Farms channel in Manitoba, Canada. It happens routinely, albeit not often in their huge herd. Always amazes me how quickly cows recover from all that trauma. You made excellent decisions. I sure have no advice for you.

I waited to comment, Tyler, to see if anyone would dare criticize you for anything you did or didn't do in a difficult and even emotional situation like this. I was ready to defend you with swords drawn. I hope YT does not demonitize this video as it shows not only how hard ranching can be but also educates so many who enjoy the end products from ranchers but have no idea what it takes for everything to get to market. I'm so proud of the way you handled removing that calf and absolutely saving the momma's life. Great job, Tyler, and great video, even if it was a bit hard to watch (and I spent my young years growing up on a Kansas farm). May you and your lovely wife have a much easier rest of the season!
