Thank you for including the missed shots too. It's good to know you are human. ;) In all honesty, I was always under the impression that pros are able to pocket balls on command, as if it were the easiest facet of the game to them. This will help me to beat myself up less for missing tough shots. Looking forward to the masochism of this drill!

Great drill....used to have this in my training routine years ago, including the "front-of pocket" cueballs and playing the shots on the second last diamond into corner and then middle, the middle diamond on the back rail into both middle pockets and on the right second diamond again into corner and middle pocket.....so 27 shots around the world. Then counted the missed shots to have a comparable result. 10-20 mistakes were ok/good for me, below 10 was magnificent, but only managed that a handful of times. Best result ever was 7, was pretty proud of that at the time. If you play this drill twice round, you then need to see a chiropractor 🙂

@Jasmin Ouschan, could you please do a video discussing how you aim (exactly where in the pocket), when you are shooting a ball into a corner pocket when the ball is at varying distances from the long rail? Talk about how you make the pocket bigger. I know that sometimes the ball can hit the side rail as much as one and a half diamonds up from the corner pocket and still go in. I know that speed matters also. What I don’t know is, do you aim with that in mind? or do you still aim for the center of the pocket mouth opening? Where exactly is the center of the pocket on that kind of shot? How does your aiming change as the object ball moves away from the long rail out towards the center of the table. How does the angle of cueball approach change anything or not? What about English to improve the pocket-ability to synch, vs getting position on another ball. I think this is one of those ball pocketing knowledge things that the Pros seem to know that Amateurs don’t. Thanks for these videos. I am enjoying them.

In engineering terms, these are "boundary conditions" which tests the very edge of the capability envelope. What makes this drill so tough is that when the ball is frozen and you have a long shot to play, you really need to have a stroke that is mathematically accurate. If the cue tip does not contact the cue on the vertical axis, the masse induced will cause a miss. Also the bridge hand isn't as comfy as it could be given just how close it is to the cue ball. This could be a fantastic drill in which the player needs to totally focus on having a pure stroke. Any flaws in one's stroking technique will be magnified.

Being that players can take multiple cues out with them to play matches, such as a break, jump and playing cue, would it be allowed and would it make sense to have an additional cue with a smaller tip more similar to or an actual snooker cue, purely to use just for shots where the cue ball is tight on the cushion or rail? I just wondered if a smaller tipped cue will make for a better contact on the cue ball. EDIT: I posted initially having only watched some of this video so far but on watching the rest of it, I think using a second cue ball with little to no markings would be a good idea, because with a striped ball like here, the temptation is to subconsciously (or otherwise) respot the ball in the exact same way and use the markings as an aiming guide, rather than just using natural judgement. Being that realistically in 8 ball or 10 ball if on stripes, you are unlikely to have striped ball markings line up perfectly during an actual rack.
@TheRPhelps24
@TheRPhelps24 Год назад
Seems like an idea about the smaller diameter tip. As for positioning of the cueball, I noticed she was laying the stripe horizontally each time so that it would be less of a randomized position. It isn't much of an aid the way she was doing it.

It seems like at least 4 of the shots from the pockets would be relatively easy, straight into a pocket and a little more room to access the cue ball. I guess that's more shots you have to make, but they are easier.

It would be a good challenge with 2 people. Just like around the world in basketball. Make the shot and move on, miss and stay there or challenge it. Miss the second shot and go back one spot, or if you decide... go back to the beginning. First person all the way around wins. Question....are they all suppose to be straight shots. Some of those, a bank shot would be better.

Just an observation (from me a real hacker) I would have to go back and watch it again. Looked like the shots you missed there was a choppy looking stroke with a short or very little follow through. The shots you made your follow through looked good and complete. Obviously a good follow through means you made a good stroke on the ball. So I then believe that there is nothing wrong with your form, aim, alignment...but getting a good stroke on a frozen cue ball is the most critical part of the scenario.
