A lot of people often make a fuss about how Flandre is the biggest woobie in all of Touhou, having been locked in the basement for centuries because she's too dangerous to roam free, and how they just wanna hug her. I maintain that the Komeiji sisters put her to shame. They literally exiled themselves to hell because of all the fear and hated they were met with on the surface, and they were not even feared because they were dangerous, but just because no-one liked them and the way they always read other people's minds out loud... That's like voluntarily locking yourself in the mother of all basements because people keep telling you "It's your fault that you were born!" ...and once they got to hell, what did they find? That they were just as feared and hated among the exiles of hell as they had been on the surface... You know you're in hell when no-one, not even hell, wants anything to do with you... and so Satori exiled herself again, locked herself up in a palace together with her pets, the only beings who appreciated her being able to understand them, so that no-one else would have to suffer her presence ever again... and she still took the rejection better than her little sister, who closed her heart and her mind-reading eye, choosing to rather live like an empty husk wandering the world without either thoughts or feelings and an angel with broken wings than with all the fear and hatred her mind-reading brought her... and so poor Satori essentially lost her little sister... I mean, Koishi comes back to visit her big sis every once in a while, sure... or at least her body does...

@@GrahamChapman And it is stated in canon material (Cheating Detective Satori) that Flandre... chooses to remain in the basement. She can destroy the lock as she wants, but prefers to stay down there because it's cozy, there's food, games, and everyone checks on her regularly.

@@paulcziganj4257 Exactly. CDS was still a couple of years off when I wrote that comment, but even back then there were hints in canon that Flandre's situation was a wholly voluntary set-up. And now it's confirmed in canon: There's no need to feel sorry for her because she's just fine in her room... Satori, on the other hand? Yeah, she's met with cold glares and words whenever and wherever she shows up. (I do hope CDS will be picked up again sooner or later 'cuz it left off on SUCH a cliffhanger. If ZUN has to get a new artist then so be it, I just wanna see where the story is going.)

So you say, but Koishi actually stole the 1st place from Reimu on one of the official character popularity polls... I do love the Komeiji sisters, though. More so than even the Scarlets, actually.
