2:15 So, this track isn't *actually* played live, but there's a reason it's called the Live ver. and has audience sounds/clapping added to it. This song plays during the final boss fight, which takes place during an in-universe concert. It's canonically played by a few of the side characters while you fight the boss, which is why it's called the Live ver. (Also, you're right that a Touhou concert would be sick, cus I actually went to one last week. It was awesome.) 21:14 Yes, this is an official mix! The original track was composed by ZUN, but as part of Touhou 15.5's music CD the Arrange ver. was included as a bonus track. So this is affiliated with the official game.
@marcossegon5433
@marcossegon5433 12 дней назад
To add to this, the official mix is made by U2 Akiyama, who makes the entire soundtracks of the fighting games minus the final boss and another important character in the game (and ULiL and AoCF's character themes where U2 Akiyama didn't compose the character theme remixes either, as those were done by a variety of doujin circles or ZUN himself). U2 Akiyama always remixes those themes made by ZUN in the albums as bonus tracks. I think the only exception might be the first fighting game where he didn't do that.

While the character art for 15.5 isn't drawn by ZUN, all character designs across the whole series are indeed done by him alone, so he really is a one-man-band for almost everything. The designs, music, programming, etc...... Also, yes, the second song is an official mix. Besides, many of the fighting games like 15.5 have a majority of its OST comprised of fan music circles' remixes which were then brought into the games to be used in an official capacity And lastly, yes, there's quite a few ZUNpet-less songs that ZUN has made

Yeah. Touhou is one of those weird fanbases where nobody talks about it, until someone brings it up. Then suddenly you're surrounded by people who want to show you cool Touhou stuff! EDIT: I'm not complaining! 😅

To be fair, Touhou dominated Japanese related cons for years. It's only in the mid 2010s when enthusiasm died down compared to the chokehold it had in the 00s. Remember, they used to have *two* separate dedicated conventions for Touhou with Reitaisai.
@Evilmon2
@Evilmon2 9 дней назад
@@1wayroad935 There's still two Reitaisai's a year, the spring one was just last week! And that's not going into the smaller regional cons like the ones in Osaka and Sapporo.

In universe this is played live at a concert while you fight the final boss. So, canonically Raiko, the drum girl whose theme Jesse just reacted to, is playing the drums for this track. The 3 Prismriver Sisters are doing the rest of the instruments; they play the Trumpet, Violin, and Keyboard respectively, so if you assume the violin swaps out for the guitar when need be, one would have pretty much all the instruments covered by in universe band members.

This theme is actually shared by two characters that work "together" in the story. Each one is respectively themed after poverty and affluence, the character in the illustration being the affluent one. Shes most likely the titular "egoist" since she (like you said) blings herself out, and also exploits the other poor one.

joon and shion is based on the Japanese asset price bubble , where there was an economic bubble in Japan from 1986 to 1991 in which real estate and stock market prices were greatly inflated. In early 1992, this price bubble burst and Japan's economy stagnated. The bubble was characterized by rapid acceleration of asset prices and overheated economic activity, as well as an uncontrolled money supply and credit expansion. with that riches, imporvement of technology , electrical companies earning big in their white buisness suits. women dancing and clubbing, buzzing nightlife. it was proserous. that what Joon represents. shes a pestilence god/spirit, adorned in luxurious adornments, proving her riches and the craze to look expensive. she gain and creates wealth. but she also throw away her money just as fast. which they did back then. used as much money as they could, living the luxury life. but as we know it came to an abrupt end, which shion represents. poverty and the crash on the market came by hand in hand. A poverty goddess, who lives in truly misfortune, cause thats what she is: misfortune. she collects the money her sister wastes, but as siblings they have their fights. yet cant stop attracting themselves to each others. like magnets. i personally love the design, due to its historical meaning. something which i love alot.

Official Touhou Project works are produced by ZUN of "Team Shanghai Alice" alone, but some works are produced jointly by "Team Shanghai Alice" and "Twilight Frontier". These organizations are not companies, but personal gatherings of people with specific hobbies called Doujin circles. They want to freely create games and music. ZUN has all the skills related to game production, and is actually in charge of programming, composing, drawing graphics and illustrations, and writing scenarios. From Th10 onwards, his wife Ki-san is in charge of some of the illustrations.

We Touhou fans are eating good. Yeah. Live version mean that this song is being played by characters in the background during gameplay. As for the second one. It is remixed by a one of the music composers that normally make music for the .5 games. The pattern for those kinds of games is that most of the ost is composed by members of tasofro and those are normally remixes of existing songs, while ZUN composes the themes for the new characters introduced. It's basically official. U2 made other songs for Touhou 15.5 ost

Fuck yeah. I'm always gonna be here for touhou reactions. I wish we could get some fan tracks in, but the circles probably don't count as 'video game music'. What DOES is something from Touhou Mystia Izakaya, or Touhou Luna Nights. I love these games so much. Izakaya especially has some great tracks with the Hakurei Shrine work ost. I pray someone in the patreon already has my idea in mind. I found some stats off a site and some general estimations from Reddit stats right now are: -115363 songs -525 events -2245 circles/bands -14088 albums By 2021 there was estimated to be around 100,000-150,000 songs derived from touhou according to Reddit. The accuracy of these doesn't entirely matter, but it's probably my favourite part about this entire franchise. It's more a collective than it is just ZUN's mind-child, and it is entirely possible to monetise and make a following by kind of piggybacking off the popularity of the series. Yuka Kitamura, the composer of the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, is doing music for a little real-time strategy touhou fangame called the Touhou Empires now that she's gone freelance. A single animator making the Touhou: A Summer Day's Dream (I think) has some pretty significant names doing the voice acting. It draws so many people in to start making what they want while bringing already big names in to do the same.

There are some japanese doujin circles that make concerts, they are pretty cool, from the top of my head I always remember some concerts that BeatMARIO has done, especially when its about his song "Help me EIRIN" (Based on Flight of the Bamboo Cutter ~ Lunatic Princess from TH8 Imperishable Night), there's a lot of call and responses with the audience it is really nice. Talking about the song, the chanting and clapping of the people add a lot to the enjoyment of the song, while playing the game it really gets you in the moment of the fight, more when it is the final boss. This is one of the song I do play time to time while doing nothing and I want to get some energy

Oh boy here we go, my favorite Touhou song hands down. It really just feels impressive. It’s the perfect final boss song to convey a finale, it feels like something that would play for a stage play (probably for a good reason given the setting of the fight). I think it perfectly captures the beauty of the patterns in Touhou fights, it’s like a dance. Although this game doesn’t have the typical fights, it still feels very fitting for the moment.

The sonfs have really long names for organization. The format may vary, but you usually see: -Numbered entry of game (17.5) -Name or abreviation of game (Antinomy of Common Flowers or AoCF) --Character/stage the song goes with ((Not included in this track, but Jo'on's theme)) -Title and (if needed) sub-title of the song (Egoistic Flowers: Tonight Stars an Easygoing Egoist) The name of the song is Egoistic Flowers, the other fields are for SEO and organizational purposes. People frequently search by game or character since it's hard to remember all the names. It also helps with creating and maintaining playlists. Lastly, the song titles do usually tie in directly with the charactrs. It's usually something to do with their personality or lore, though, so you can't really tell without reading some backstory. for example: Egoistic Flowers:: Jo'on and her sister Shion are references to flowers. The pair also very self-centered. U. N. Owen was Her: Flandre is unknown to most people. Pierot of the Star-Spangled Banner: Clownpiece is wearing an America-themed outfit. Pure Furies: Pure fury is what Junko feels when you meet her. Some titles are less obvious, but the song title is frequently the 3rd or 4th thing you learn about a character, right after appearance and name and possibly a couple lines of dialogue. It's usually the most insight you get into a character without actually researching them.

Easygoing egoist, one of my personal faves. Something about the tracks Zun makes for the fighting games hits different. Anyway if you want a stupid fun fact: Like others have mentioned, this song diegetically exists in universe as a song being played at a concert. It plays when fighting the Yorigami sisters, who are using the current game's events to commit theft. But the track follows them as their theme in their subsequent appearances, so it can be said their own boss music is stolen, too.

7:32 Assuming you're referring to the image on the video, that's actually the cover art for the game! The characters read Touhou (東方) Hyouibana (憑依華), meaning "Spirit Possession Bloom". Each Touhou game has a Japanese and English title, separated by a tilde. For example, 15.5's full name is Touhou Hyouibana ~ Antinomy of Common Flowers. Both subtitles typically tend to be relevant to the plot of each game.

Insane non-sensical and unrelated naming seems to be a common theme in the series lol.
@cchieffkiefbeff
@cchieffkiefbeff 12 дней назад
@@nachot6592well this one makes a lot of sense, spirit possession bloom is because of the perfect possession incident in this game where characters are forming master slave pacts through perfect possession, basically the master takes over the slave’s spirit and body and they can swap so spirit possession makes sense, while theyre also being swapped with their dream selves, and both joon and shion are named after flowers hence bloom. Antinomy of Common Flowers is because well the flower part is joon and shion, and they are opposites but need eachother and are sisters so antinomy, common i dont know, maybe because joon steals from people and leeches their wealth but is poor because of a lack of spending sense and shion is just poor in general and cant gain any money from her misfortune.
@lunaticrambler2593
@lunaticrambler2593 10 дней назад
@@nachot6592 Not really, pretty much every game title has some connection to the plot. And most character and theme songs have some connection to their respective place in the story and the feeling / personality it's meant to convey. It's actually part of the formula as to why characters are as beloved as they are, because the music is often an extension of their character. It might sound a little nonsensical at first especially because ZUN can for some reason pull so many eccentric English names out of his hat despite not being anywhere near fluent in English, but they are surprisingly always quite fitting and memorable. In this case, take the song title of this video. The fight takes place during a concert, and the two characters this theme is for are a plague goddess and a curse goddess using their powers and the events of the game to unknowingly swindle people at a concert to give them their money. One of the two is kind of dragging the other along and very easygoing about all the harm they're doing to the crowd, which is who the title is most likely referring to. The English title refers to them both, since they are both named after flowers.

Its really hard to say whether the second song is "Official", its as close to the line as possible. Antinomy of common flowers (AoCF) an official spinoff fighting game thats made with the help of another studio in addition to ZUN. Characters in AoCF had their themes remixed in a "fanmade songs become official" style where they brought in popular fan artist to make the actual game OST. As far as I know though this song didn't get that treatment until an official game ost CD was released which included this as a bonus track. Is it fanmade? Yes. Is it official? Yes but only on a Bonus OST CD. I will say as a final note though this theme of fan-works blending with official works is VERY present because Touhou IP is not enforced by ZUNs choice. You are fully allowed to make a Touhou game with Touhou characters and sell it for profit. Just don't put numbers in the title that is for official games and official spinoff (with decimals) games only

A touch to add to the other explanations about the first being made by ZUN, and the second being an arrange. 15.5 is one of the fighting game side-games, which have traditionally been made by a different team instead of the one-man work the Shoot-'em-ups are. At some point, I think in the U.N. Owen reaction, you asked if it's common for songs to reappear? Well, characters reappearing in the main games tend to get new themes, or at least different enough, while in the fighting games it's more traditional for arranges to show up. To go in turn, the soundtrack is also made by composers other than ZUN, basically. Now, the exception is the themes for the new characters, made by ZUN as an exception to the general rule... which in turn has built up a tradition on the ensuing soundtrack release to have an arrange for these newcomers' themes akin to, well, "everyone else", so they also get the official (if non-zun) arrangement treatment!

Newer Touhous follow a formula, so while as individuals they may sound very impressive, altogether they may incite the feeling of being 'samey'. Older ones were ZUN experimenting to find his style, so each song feels unique.
